Evening all. 40 messages in the last 12 hours…keeping up with you people is a full-time hobby… Swimming (750 yds) and sauna (25 minutes) were done this afternoon, had a 30-minute practice with the 7 year old soccer players (it was just too hot for them and me to be out any longer…think we broke 100F today) and came home to find they have cancelled all the soccer games starting after 10am tomorrow, due to the extreme heat. While I am ready to start coaching, I concur with this action, the heat index by 10am will be in the triple digits and 5-12 year olds trying to run up and down the field as they usually do would be prime cases for heat exhaustion/stroke (heck, I was supposed to referee at 12:45pm and was not looking forward to it). However, my 8am game is still on, so I will still get some soccer time in tomorrow.
Bought a couple new Toner cartridges (figure the extra can sit on my shelf as well as theirs) to support the economy and had a Big Bowl O’Sallit for dinner, so now need to get to bed at a decent hour and be up around 6:30am to get organized.
Now let’s see what the rest of you have been up to…
wet one, hope the break is coming my way.
vroom, hope the job situation works out for you.
Got my Shingles shots a couple of years ago and pretty sure I got the TDAP last year, so I should need the flu shot for this year and pretty much good to go.
Wheelie, nice story and enjoy your land, once the blast furnace has cooled.
Pilot and others, one of the things I wanted in a house when I moved here in 1997 was a 1-story with no stairs (very few homes in N. Ali-bama have basements). That’s what I got and have never regretted it. And glad the FUBAR with the kid had a happy ending.
Haven’t dealt much with Social Security (I’m on a now-ended US Government Pension program), but the one time I did it was pretty smooth and no problems.
Taters, presume your husband isn’t quite as blind-as-a-bat like me (I would never drive or even take a walk in the park without my glasses), but still…and you are most definitely out of F**** to give…and good on ya for that!
Oopsie, happy news about Bailey. I might mention that gym thing to my soccer Commissioner, it sounds pretty useful (probably more so for club/travel teams)
OK, think I’m caught up. May miss the morning traffic what with the early soccer start, but all y’all take care and I’ll catch up sooner or later.
Too exhausted from reading all of the replies to actually write anything. Uh, I had some salami and lemon Stilton on a cracker for dinner. I hope that’s a pointless enough statement.
I worked for the county election department for 5 or 6 years before transferring to records management. During that time I worked every single election and was the one “in charge” and the one who got called to handle problems. There were many fun things about it, but the bad things kinda outweighed the good parts until I got sick of it and transferred away.
If I am selected, I will be working at the library a mile away (and I hate and mistrust most of my neighbors nowadays, hence wanting the cane) but at least I won’t be getting home at midnight again.
How has the RSV shot been feeling? I do want to get it, I love getting shots, LOL, but I’m thinking I want to wait until I can get my next covid shot cause I’m too lazy to drive all the way to town for just one shot.
I didn’t get my Dtap (or which ever it was) because I needed a tetanus shot, I did it because women were missing Tai Chi because they had whooping cough. I was lying about loving getting shots, but I’m serious when I say that I hate being sick and think a shot is a small price to pay to avoid being sick. If Imma spend the day in bed, I wanna enjoy it!
How very boring! I’m sorry your neighbor died, I hope he passed quickly.
I don’t think you really need to worry about that, you would probably be found when the neighbors complained about the noise the next day when Monkey was screaming about being starrrrrvvvved to death while ripping down all of your blinds.
Libraries, museums and senior centers depend on volunteers. Hospitals do as well, but that’s where sick people hang out so I’ve never considered volunteering there.
We don’t have a breakfast bar here but did at our last place. We both would cover it with stuff all the time and it used to really piss me off when I saw that I had left as much or even more garbage on it than he did. But I still did it. Now that we don’t have a breakfast bar, we don’t cover the table, island or counters with stuff so I think we should just avoid living somewhere with a breakfast bar to avoid the issue.
Oh good for you! Good for you for not doing anything but playing with your posies in your off time, you deserve time to just relax and do things for you.
Woot! That looks super good and easy, thank you.
Well, I always knew she was a smart girl! Good for both of you.
You don’t know me very well, do you?
But yeah, that wasn’t a typo, it was because I’m so lazy that I type what I think the letters are and let the red squiggly lines auto correct. Plus, speeling has never been my strong point so I would have never noticed it was misspelled (auto correct fixed mispelled for me) because I never knew how to speel it to start with, LOL.
I last had the flu when I was 36. It was horrible. That is the same year I started getting yearly flu shots because I never wanted to do that again!
MIL had granite counters and window sills put into their home and I really liked them and wish we had them here. Our last place had tiled counters and breakfast bar. I do not recommend, scrubbing the grout was a super PITA.
If you come and visit my shed on your next vacation, I’ll buy tickets for the drinking Grand Canyon train car and bus tour. There is even a smoking flatbed right next to the bar car and pot is legal here.
That’s pretty much how I am but sometimes it gets over the top stoopid. When the big head of the state Department of Economic Security went nutz, he started buying and storing guns in the basement of the state building and doing mandatory puppet shows online at the beginning of each day. Seeing as how I would show up to work stoned, I loved starting my computer and watching a grown man play with little dolls but my co-workers weren’t as happy.
I think I’d like that better than working the polls but after all the kerfuffle and recounts here…I doubt volunteers are welcome anymore.
I honestly think that all of the election scoffers should be forced to volunteer so they can see just how professional and safe the process really is.
Today we visited NF and her hubs took us to his workshop and showed us his gems. He started by giving me several print outs as well as a letter telling me how much he enjoyed looking at the rocks I had sent home with his wife and telling me what I had given him. I always love listening to experts and he was super interesting.
He wasn’t a gem cutter by trade and shared a story about being a reporter and interviewing Dr. Louis Leaky. It was so much fun hearing someone sharing his story that sounded so much like mine. The Leakys were born teachers and loved to share their passion with anyone who showed interest.
NF and hubs live just down the street from one of Hub’s good friends and we saw Arnold in his yard as we were going by so stopped to say hi and pet his horses. One of his mares is wearing a horsey chastity belt because the neighbor’s intact pony keeps breaking down fences when his mare goes into heat.
Then I learned how much it costs to have a mare fixed and how dangerous it was for an animal that size and that it legally it was the neighbor’s responsibility to deal with it and a lawsuit was going to happen.
Hopefully there’ll be the latest Covid booster out in October too. You can get both vaccines at the same time. I did the flu shot at my dr’s because I was there for something else but I figured I’d be a docile patient and let her jab me, just this once. It was my annual Medicare Wellness Visit. Usually they interview you and ask about how much you drink or risky sexual behavior, etc., if there are guns in the house, was I safe at home. Every.damn.year.the.same damn.questions. Every.damn.year.the same.boring.answers. The world has more to fear from me than I do from it and I plan to keep it that way.
I work at the most 3 elections a year, $11 dollars an hour, all the good parts if you’re an extrovert, none of the office crazy. I can take my iPad and read the NY Times and hang out here with you guys all I want. I take a big library book with me and that starts lots of conversations with people who tell me about all the good books they are reading, it’s like a 13 hour book club, with better coffee. The worst thing is my butt gets numb sitting on a church parlor folding chair for those 13 hours
I once cut my hand on the sharp end of a guitar string.
When we were into 4-wheeling, we learned to always “dampen” the tow rope with a towel. I don’t know about the science, but apparently a towel, jacket or something like that over the rope (strap, chain, whatever) will dampen the whiplash if the rope snaps.
That was reinforced the day we stopped because we saw stopped jeeps and watched someone try to pull a rolled vehicle over with a bare cable. The cable snapped and took out a windshield and wanged up a different jeeps hood.
Also, thanks again for recommending the Birdmoss boxes. Mom loves them. I highly suspect she is just repacking the boxes and putting them in a closet, but she really likes getting them and is engaged in the story. It makes me happy to know that she is happy, so thank you again and again.
Today I once again woke up in an abattoir so sheets were washed and in the dryer when we went to visit NF. Tonight I tried to make the bed but GG had to help so I tossed my weighted blanket over him and got into the shower. I think I created a monster, he complained when I came back and tried to take the blankie back.
I’m getting those questions too, and it upsets me that I don’t have any risky sexual behavior to report. A couple of years ago I reported hubs and I making whoopy on our new living room rug but I guess the risk of carpet burns and not being able to get up off the floor wasn’t what they were talking about.
Oh gosh yes. That was horrible, I always felt so sorry for the volunteers. Of course, most of them were smart enough to show up with cushions, I was the one who wasn’t prepared. It didn’t matter much for me, I didn’t have a chair because I was in charge of putting fires out. I think being a paid volunteer would be much more fun because I wouldn’t have to deal with the ranters.
Trying to decide whether I’m just neurotic. Been seeing the stories about a couple of new Covid variants (Eris, Pirola) that are supposedly going to be rather nasty, responded by inventorying paper goods and disinfectants, bought several cans of Lysol (well, store-brand analog) during a grocery run to top up my existing stock.
I’ve done that !!
Luckily i noticed straight away and transferred it back.
You’d think/hope that the bloody bank’s website/app would spot something like that
and give some sort of warning; “Are you sure - that would put your account
into the red !” type of thing, but no.
Bastards.
I was too busy making up stories that I forgot to put in the single most important detail!
Officer: “Did you hear anything, such as a stuggle?”
Us: “No, haven’t hear anything.”
The police said he fell in his bath and I guess they were just making sure he wasn’t being pushed? Anyway, they didn’t seem particularly interested in our participation or lack there of, so I guess we aren’t suspects. Most likely the guy just slipped in his bath and there was nothing more.
My life became much, much more boring when I stopped drinking, which also seemed to have a major affect on other risky behavior. I was never much one for moderation. But boring is much more likely to ensure a longer life, something I appreciate more these days.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of a hunnert, N.O.S., and a heat index of up to 112. I do believe it will be a good day to stay inside in the a/c. We can hone our sloth and general overall uselessness skillz. Sounds like a good idea to me. I really can’t foresee even goin’ out to the cee-mint pond, but we might for a while this mornin’. Sup shall be chili/cheese/onion/slaw dawgs and fries just cause. I do need to practice the readin’ of the sermon for tomorrow, so I can count that as productivity.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
My very first apartment had tiled counters - light yellow and green tile. And a pink fridge. I called it my after-dinner mint kitchen! And yes, the tiled counters sucked!
Today may be the last hot one for a while, and even at that, it’s not supposed to hit 90. Then we’ve got a week of upper 70s/low 80s and 60s at night. The Farmer’s Almanac says we’re going to have a snowier winter this year, especially in January. Yeah, when we’re supposed to be flying to Chile for our cruise. That’s why we buy trip insurance!
I’ll be checking out the wi-fi hotspots in all the classrooms today while FCD does some more electrical work. I hope it doesn’t take all day - I need to chunk up the watermelon and the cantaloupe I’m taking tomorrow. But I guess we’ll see when we see.
Today is the first Saturday after school started. Poor students and teachers were sweltering in the heat during the week, and now it’s going to rain all Saturday afternoon, Sunday, Monday, and part of Tuesday.
I don’t mind. I think I almost here the plants slurping - they haven’t had a good downpour for a while.
Made quesadillas for lunch and then I’m going to make the dough for pizza for tomorrow. Both hubby and I are considering napping - this weeks’ heat has not been good for sleeping. At least we plan to go to bed early.
Need to do some paperwork, which has been sitting the table and mocking me. Perfect thing for rainy days. And reading.
I do that, but at least for part of the summer I love the fresh! I did a mix this year I called Scarborough bread, it had parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme. I grew the sage and rosemary myself, used dry for the others.
I saved a GHS last night. Abbey came in from the catio as if she was catching something. I assumed it was a small moth (or some kind of flitty bug). She took up various positions for ambuscade, but I could not see her prey. Finally, I saw movement. Not a huge spider, but average for the species. While abbey, and also Goo, kept the GHS corralled, I retrieved the penalty jar. No penalty for Spidey, though. I took him right outside and released him. Goo kept looking at the spider’s LKP, as she didn’t grok that I’d scooped him up. Later, Abbey was searching the spaces between the catio floor planks as if to see if there were any more spiders.
