This! My work with Second Harvest showed me that the odds and ends that are donated are better given to a pick-your-own type food pantry rather than a food bank.
Yay!
That’s sad. RIP Brian.
I went to the complex celebration. Everyone was having a good time and the wee goblins liked their treats. I left the ramen, mac & cheese with the manager to distribute, but packaged the oatmeal with candy. One kid even exclaimed I love oatmeal! The costume that I liked best was a toddler dressed as BamBam. His mom (I’m assuming) was dressed as Pebbles. I also met the complex owner. He’s a nice guy and he was interested in seeing my portable W./D setup. He knows that being able to do laundry at home is a deal breaker for a lot of folks, myself included.
I present to you the cutest grands in the world!! They went door to door in their other grandmother’s neighborhood.
Tobias cracks me up. He, obviously, wanted to be a butterfly for Halloween, but for his 4th b-day party next week, the theme is spaceman! A child of many and varied interests.
Honestly, till I got the pics from Daughter, I’d forgotten about door-to-door beggars. But our light was out and no one attempted the long, dark driveway.
Moanday is FCD’s birthday and rather than dinner out, he wants to go to breakfast. We’ll probably go tomorrow since Sunday is the worst day to have breakfast out, and he’s got a dental appt on Moanday. So far, that’s our only plan of sorts for tomorrow. Apart from maybe, finally, cleaning his shop.
Up from naptime. I followed BBBoo’s suggestion and had a Vieux Carré, along with Five Spice salmon and Asian style peas, 'shrooms, and brown rice. Spot briefly used my head as paw warmer during naptime, but is currently off being cat and mysterious.
You maybe should. It never ceases to amaze me how hard They’ve made it to pay the money you actually owe.
You haven’t gotten the hang of the RDOS thing, huh?
\m/–\m/
And the “Trooper” ESB they collaborated on is a kick ass beer(and an underappreciated style)
FCM’s sister used to post a week of themed photos on FB. When one week it was tree stumps, I replied, “I thought it was ‘Morning Wood’.”
Cute!
Awwwwww.(and is that a cat or a pillow on the right side?)
Late night final is a bit early since I have a very full day tomorrow and am feeling a bit weary tonight. Halloween went about as expected, about 35 or so kids so if I had bought what I thought I needed it would have worked out well, but of course I bought several extra bags so need to find someone to donate them too, as I have already consumed way to much tonight (skipped my Salad Bowl due to the chocolate intake). Down to 45F so hope it warms up by 9am tomorrow, when I referee my first game.
And onto the last scroll of the day…
Glad to see those that had Halloween visitors had a good time and no issues.
red, sounds like the complex your in was a good choice, hope it stays that way.
FCM, Roxy looks very diabolical, which as the Hydra is a good thing.
Flyboy, thanks for the Findus pic, looks like a very nice cat.
And need to be off to bed. Don’t know when I’ll be able to post tomorrow, it’s going to be a pretty full soccer day, but I’ll try.
Fin-dus. In the stories, he was found in a box of Findus frozen vegetables.
IKR? Please take my money!
It’s a pillow. I think CatMom made it out of something, but I don’t remember.
Goo hisses at Findus, but Findus is brave. Abbey growls, which we do not like.
Since it’s Halloween, we’ve just watched Young Frankenstein. We watched the ‘making of’ documentary on the DVD. I found myself a little angry at Gene Wilder for having died.
3 p.m. and I got home maybe 20 minutes ago. Latest closing shift evah.
We broke our store’s own record for online orders (60 something tonight) and I don’t remember the number S.M. whispered to me (at 2:15 a.m. I’m not gonna remember random-to-me numbers, honey I might blank on my own address) but whatever revenue we pulled down was pretty damn good.
Oh, AND we were short staffed.
Got tipped out, though.
I’ll peruse and possibly reply, later, but I gotta get some weedbooze food into me.
Here’s me & S.M. a few minutes after close. Behind those smiles is some real weariness & physical pain, but triumph at surviving the night.
There were a few - okay, many - moments of confusion, mixed up orders, stress, “Sir, like I said, it. is. not. ready. yet” and some holy-bananas drunks, but hey … we made it.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 40 (BRR!) Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of < snerk > 69! < snerk > and sunny. I have a Boston < snerk > BUTT! < snerk > in the slow cooker that will be shredded and taken to the church house tomorrow along with buns and sauce as tomorrow is first Sunday brunch. I will also make a chawklit sheet cake with chawklit pee-kahn icin’. My DAWGS will munch on some Flarduh gator this afternoon at three-thirty. It’s the annual WLOCP* in Jacksonville. A busy day for me! I shall have to squeeze in some RDOS sloth in order to maintain my cred.
FlyBoy Findus is a cutie. You reminded me of a friend who had a cat named Crisco. Crisco got his name because he was found outside of an A&P grocery store in front of a sign advertisin’ a sale on Crisco shortenin’.
MetalMouse have fun refereein’/coachin’ soccer. Hope you find a suitable home for the leftover candy. Maybe give some to the soccer players and get ‘em all hyped on sugar before handin’ ‘em over to their’rents. I am evil!
shoe busy night! Hope you are snuggled under the covers as I write this. You deserve to be!
MOOOOOOM love the costumes! Why not be a butterfly and then an astronaut? Or even a butterfly astronaut!
red seems like you found the right apartment complex. Glad the humanlets appreciated the oatmeal packets. Good idea to leave the other stuff with the manager to distribute. I’m sure he knows who could use it.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Sattidy Y’all!
*WLOCP = World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party due to the history of raucous tailgates before the game.
She’s Medusa! I’m guessing she saw it in a Disney movie or something. I don’t think second graders learn mythology stories yet.
Please don’t give the boy any more ideas - he comes up with enough himself!
Weird dreamage - I was trying to figure out where to relocate the dehumidifier and the little fridge in the basement. My brain was on mega-strange.
We’re headed to Scramblers for breakfast - a new one opened not long ago in Lex Park, so that’s where we’re headed. Doggie training at 2, cleaning out the painting shed somewhere along the line.
Today has started at 41 Ferrets heading to 62. I’m up, showered, dressed, and waiting for my sweetie to finish making himself decent for public wanderage.
Happy Saturday and Happy November. Happy day to all you Saints out there, too. There may be one or two among the Mumpers, ya think?
And now I’m thinking of space butterflies, which reminds me of Stardance by Spider Robinson and Jeanne Robinson. I think this time of year I tend towards nostalgia. Cute kids.
Color-coordinated cutey!
Awwww. Congrats on surviving!
Not a saint, but I did know two kitties named Saint. Both were named in the late 1970s, so maybe there was a television show with a cat named Saint? Or maybe it was just random.
No egging last night, that I know of. Today’s a holiday, which limits our activity choices unless we want to travel. Today is gray, but dry, so there might be a walk in our future.
Made a chicken and dressing casserole, from scratch. Hubby’s been craving it, and it’s about the right time of year. Made about 6 servings worth, so there’s leftovers. I think it should freeze well. Hubby did the vacuuming and laundry, so now some chill time while digesting lunch.
Just a quick note. Leaving at 8am for the soccer fields, don’t plan to be home until after 7pm and we’ll see if I’m still fit to post by then. Tournaments can be stressful. No rain today but it’s 36F now and not getting above 60F for the day, so layers of clothes and some gloves will be included in my equipment bag.
Yay for permenant jobs and surviving existing jobs!
I’m having a semi-lazy day, but also trying to catch up on the defilthifying of the place, as some things have got somewhat out of hand. I really need to put up a shed, as currently a lot of the gardening stuff is getting stored in the kitchen, by the back door, as there’s no-where else to put it. It’s a tiny kitchen to begin with, so this is very much not ideal… But I can’t figure where to put the shed, and the only place I can think of would need some kind of foundations, but I don’t know what would be best.
It’s all too complicated really…
No t-or-t’ers here, though I did spot a few round the corner on the way home. This means I will be forced, forced to eat the chocolate I bought just in case. There’s not much, so I’ll hopefully cope.
Irk was silly yesterday- a bunch of the other students showed up in costume. Some of them went all out, then proceeded to go work in the lab… Think Shrek in a lab coat doing actual work. Two of them cross-dressed as the head of the lab group I’m sort of in and his wife, also in the group (who are their supervisors). Wig and bald head included. Luckily they have a good sense of humour- one even lent her ‘double’ an old name badge to make it clearer…
In other news- apparently the shipping company managed to accidentally split up the annoying bags and lose some. They were then found in Belgium, where they’d been sent instead of Germany. This delay meant they might be arriving after the 1-man-drama had flown out the country to his Dad’s second wedding, so there was an actual risk they would be returned to me as undeliverable. But apparently they have all been reunited in the correct country and should be delivered late, but still before he goes… Fingers crossed.
No trick-or-treaters here, since we turn out the lights and go to bed early. We also moved a decorative urn indoors from our porch just for safekeeping.
Hoo boy, nextdoor members are posting videos of a middle-aged woman and her teenaged boy coming around and grabbing whole unattended bowls of candy off of people’s porches and making off with them, bowl and all. The woman and her boy are laughing and giggling about it. There are about five videos of the same pair, and they are all from around my small neighborhood. I’m glad we hid our urn.
We sent a nice check to the food bank that serves this part of Indiana. They’re gonna need it, and more.
The euonymus bushes are in their glorious bright red phase right now, and they are stunning.
We had no trick-or-treat visitors last night, not one. Maybe the kids, and/or their parents, were watching the World Series game. Dodgers won, so game 7 is needed to settle it. I suppose that delights the bookies and online betting companies, who get to milk this thing one more day.
FlyBoy, I can empathize. Banks, over the years since your original loan, have sold mortgage accounts to each other, and to banks that got swallowed by other banks. When we bought this house, we got a red flag for a long-ago paid off home equity loan from a bank that was absorbed by another. Did we have the paid notice from way back then? Of course not. It all got smoothed out somehow, but it delayed the deal into the next year.
