Administrator jdavis has explained in the past that when the board changed from UBB to vBulletin, the thread URLs changed and there was no way to have a consistent scheme to convert the links.
On the bright side, we were able to keep all the old threads! Which might not have been possible if the SDMB had switched to MB software other than vBulletin.
Arnold, has anyone offered to go in and edit those so they work? I’d enjoy doing it but it would also give me (unless something weird happened) the ability to otherwise edit posts, a power I don’t like having. Any mods thought to take on the challenge, or is it not worth it?
Mostly it’s been question of time and resources . . . it takes most of us all the spare time we have just doing the things we do already.
And you are correct; to give someone edit power is to open the door for a lot of things. No reflection on you, but we keep those kinds of things close and don’t share much.
Please keep in mind we are talking about OLD threads. Most folks don’t even see them.
