Ohio State will have a good game next week. Saturday they play my Cornhuskers, who just got steamrollered by Indiana to the tune of 56-7. I won’t be surprised if next Saturday’s shellacking is even worse. There is some saying that applies….”everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face”. Nebraska got punched in the face and the whole state knows a bigger, meaner punch is coming.
Happy Sunday!
It’s 42 degrees this morning, supposed to get into the 70s.
No park, I am freezing and probably catching a cold. I slept through the alarms and didn’t get up until after 8.
I really don’t enjoy going to the park anymore anyway. I feel bad for the pups, but I have a nice sized yard and plenty of room for them to play. I know they like a change of scenery, but they have daycare for that.
The dessert pizza looks nice, Shoe
Sometimes the thyroid med is a pain for me MetalMouse. I woke up late this morning and was so hungry I was shakey, but I still had to wait to eat. Then I take the pills that have to be taken with food. I’ve been laying out all my suppliments and take them throughout the day.

Your grandkids are cuties FCM
I had a dream about a giant crab snatching people up and eating them. People had to stay indoors, or run from cover to cover to get anywhere. I remember wondering in the dream, how long can a crab live out of water and thinking OMG! the smell is going to be horrendous when that thing dies.
The lawn will geet mowed some time today. There’s a section in the back that really needs it, but my son wants to do the front. I doubt he will do both.
One load of laundry left to do. Maybe two. I bought a new blamket for my bed that needs to be washed, and then wash the old one. Both might fit in the washer together. I guess I’ll keep the old one, but I don’t like it very much. It’s pretty old, but is still in good shape. I hate to throw away things that are still usable even if I don’t like them. And it’s always good to have a spare blanket around.
I know it won’t get done totally, but I need to go through papers and get rid of a bunch and file some. I tore things up looking for the missing tax info. I also need to go through my old ToDoLists and keep necessary info. My emails are a mess too. Letting it go for just a few days can lead to hundreds of emails. Gmail hasn’t been doing a good job with spam lately. The other day I got twelve, yes twelve, I counted them, emails from AARP asking my mother to join. Alomg with all the emails for both of us asking us to change our car insurance, get a home warrenty, telling us our auto warrenty is about to expire, a real estate agent in Florida who wants to sell my sister a house, people asking for money, etc. I don’t know why it’s not going to spam. As of this morning I have well over 600 emails, and probably 98% is junk.
Coach Rhule is doing pretty well. After next Saturday the schedule gets easier and Coach Rhule will take the Huskers to their first bowl game since 2016.
Frosty only had one five win season out of five. If I could have gotten two touchdowns, I would have backed Westside High School against and Nebraska team coached by Scott Frost
I think you’re right, it’s just getting through next Saturday with enough dignity intact that the team, which has a lot of young players, doesn’t get demoralized and disheartened. I’ll still love them to pieces no matter what.
I would have too. Not at all sorry that he is some other state’s problem. In Matt Rhule we are back to having a coach we can be proud of-I like him a lot.

The Yankees are the ALCS champs and are going to the World Series for the first time in 15 years! Woot!!
Now we just have to see whether they’ll face the Mets or the Dodgers. That series could go either way; the next game is tonight. I won’t watch it, but I’ll be keeping an eye on the score. The World Series begins on Friday!
After the Yankees game finally ended (in the 10th inning) I fell asleep quickly and got 8 hours of quality rest, and am feeling much better this morning. I still have a weird, very occasional dry cough, but the sinus pressure and congestion have cleared up. Yay!
Yesterday’s assembly of the small Ikea side table went smoothly! It didn’t take long at all (helped by its size), and I’m really happy with how the new item fits/looks in the space. It did inspire today’s project, though: I couldn’t find my sonic screwdriver’s other bit*, and decided that I really need to clean out my toolbox! I’ll tackle that after lunch. The only other thing I’ll do today is laundry, which will also happen after lunch.
*I didn’t really need it – I have plenty of screwdrivers – but it was weird to realize that I couldn’t find it.
This is going to be a busy week: tomorrow I might go hear some live music in DC after work (but I might have a personal training session instead), Tuesday evening I have a work dinner, Wednesday I’ll go to the office for the day because my boss will also be there, and Thursday my boss’s boss is holding an all-day, in-person session for all of the managers in her business unit (my program plus a few others). Normally I’d go to the gym on Tuesday evening, but I’ve asked my personal trainer if our session can be moved to either Monday or Friday evening; he’s going to let me know. Worst case, I’ll see him on Saturday for our other regular session; later that day I’ll go to my BFFs’ for pumpkin carving. Then, on Sunday I’ll meet a friend for a “catch up” lunch: the restaurant has been our usual spot for 15+ years, and it’s next to one of my favorite bakeries (which I only go to when this friend and I meet for lunch). So, a week from today there will be scones!!
D’oh!! Of course. Thank you!
This made me laugh out loud. Heh.
Why do Mumpers insist on ruining oatmeal cookies?!?
Welcome back! It sounds awesome, and those few pictures look great.
One of my earliest tech writing jobs was at a small software development company: it wasn’t a start-up, but kind of had that vibe. When they decided that employee badges were finally needed, the badge numbers all started with “SB”…for stinkin’ badge.
Anne Arundel Community College was often referred to as “Harvard on the Severn” [river].
So flippin’ cute!
One bite would convert you.
Good thing I only pretend to care.
… and that I moved outta Texas, have they started rioting out there yet?
Every cat I’ve ever known, living or dead, is jealous right now.
Can you re-paint them? If so, “Spider Poop” is a terrific color.
Do the edges in “Fly Crap” for a pretty contrast. (Follow me for more painting tips!)
… subtle dig at FCM?
One of these things is a countable fact. The other is “supposedly” and nearly unprovable.
Okay, I was kinda wondering about the very colorful Heil Hitler thing. I’d’ve definitely needed the explanation, too.
Thus cognitively reinforcing the streak.
My good deed for the day is done. Any other nice things I do are a bonus!
As a decidedly non-sports person, even I know .. yikes!
Do they need any ointment for that burn?
Screw it; less drama in your life. Your dogs are still living a good life. Let the guilt go.
Is something like Gatorade or juice an option? A bit of sugar (to amp up your blood sugar so you’re not shaking) but still leaves your stomach empty for Rx?
I love how practical your brain was, even in the midst of something so weird & horrifying.
Idly curious: why the disconnect? Is the front just easier? Better “curb appeal” so the neighbors don’t give disappointed glances?
Unsolicited Advice: Get rid of shit that not only doesn’t “spark joy” but makes you actively less happy.
Your local animal shelter will very likely be happy to accept clean bedding of any kind.
Then why bother?
The shoe solution: don’t even open email unless actively looking for a needed message. Life’s too short to waste a lovely afternoon scrolling through endless versions of spam.
My non-existent penis does not need SEVERAL MOAARRR INCHES thankyouverymuch.
I mean, my dad does this every damn day, but that seems to be his hobby.
But as my mother puts it, “He wakes up angry; he goes to bed angry. He angry all day, yell at me.”
What a fucking miserable existence, for both of them.
I have GOT to remember this one at work.
I don’t really follow baseball, but I thought the Yankees automatically win every game .. ?
Hell, they lost me at the “oatmeal” part. Why ruin a perfectly tasty choc’lit chip cookie?
I keed, I keed … the infamous “Neiman Marcus” recipe involves (some) oatmeal & is very tasty.
But keep your damn walnuts and dried fruit over on your side of the fence, thankyouverymuch.
Neither of us could stand Monkey and his cabin fever anymore (hey, it’s nice out!) so he got some supervised Outside Time ™ and in return, he was a Very Good Boy who came hustling back to me when I called his name.
He is now safely esconsed in an empty Amazon box - note to self, need to gather clutter & scoop litter box AND roll the big bin out! all tonight - but for now, it’s “breakfast” time (at almost 3:30 p.m. most RDOS folks seem to be winding towards dinner) while murdering some zombies, then on to yank on some clean socks/undies, and off to see what joy (?) today brings at work.
Coupla my crew have been predictably getting on my nerves in predictable ways.
Must. Keep. Mouf. Shut.
Go. Yell. At. Mushrooms. In. Walk-in. As. Needed.
While you’re in there, post what they’re doing/saying/not doing so we can snark in solidarity, right along with you. Ain’t no snark better than shared snark. We all can throw in some snerk karma while we’re at it.
I achieved mowage. It was very needed, but I hope it is the last of the year.
Thanks all for the support last night. I’m doing better.
Cookies of most any sort are good, unless coconut is introduced. Then they become an abomination, aside from those Samoas from the Girl Scouts.
shoe I think shouting at frozen mushrooms is a very good idea.
I could be Triangle although I can be obtuse
T
Are you sure that he’s really a cat?
The grands are totally cute in their costumes, Moooooooom.
Good! More hugs as needed.
I agree with this, but include Samoas.
The poke stew was lovely and autumnal, Sunday chores are done, forty-'leven rounds of fetch played with Nelson and some creations got worked on in the studio. Now for KP and more studio time.
Church was great, as always. People came forward after to become members.
After service, at 1, we went in the dining area to watch the fb game, and much food was there.
I had the boneless wings and banana pudding.
Its a beautiful sunny warm day here in Ohio.
I have written before about my gadget problem. I love a new toy, and “need” doesn’t always enter the equation. Well, today I got a new gadget that makes me happy and actually addresses a couple of long-term low-key annoyances:
— Watching TV is the main way I relax, and when I travel I like to still be able to watch all of my streaming services on a big screen. For years I used an iPad with an HDMI cable and an adapter, but sometime in the past year or two some of the streamers started cracking down on that method and playback began frequently freezing and needing to be restarted (I thought it was connectivity issues until I did some research). I use an Apple TV at home: a few months ago I started thinking about maybe getting a Roku or a Fire stick or something just for travel, but eventually I settled on the idea of simply taking my Apple TV with me whenever I go somewhere.
— The navigation on my Apple TV’s remote control has annoyed me since I got it (5 years ago). It uses track-pad-like technology but is super imprecise, and sometimes clicking it to select something only works if I press just the right spot on the “pad.” Also, I can use it to control the TV volume but I have to reach for the TV remote if I want to mute (or turn the TV off/on).
The new Apple TV 4K that was delivered earlier today addresses both issues. My current TV doesn’t support 4K, but whenever it’s time to get a new TV I’m sure it will — and in the meantime, the new remote is awesome: the navigation is much better, and it has a mute button and a power button. AND, now I can easily take the old Apple TV with me when I travel! It’s all packed up in a travel bag with my extra HDMI cable, ready to be thrown in a suitcase. I almost want to plan a trip just to take it somewhere…LOL.
The dried fruit could be a win (a nearby grocery store’s bakery makes big oatmeal and cranberry cookies that are quite yum), but I’m not a fan of walnuts. Even a little. Blech.
Probably some swear words too!
I’m glad you were able to spend time with him outside of the courtroom.
Which is why I have been looking into fostering. I’m sure I will outlive our current fuzzbutts and don’t want to die catless.
That was my first thought, but the the seed package was sealed in an manila envelope. Something triggered the post office to open the envelope and to find the seeds. The opened envelope and the other contents were delivered.
You’d think I’d be a pro at that sort of thing, LOL!!!
I agree with you about nellie. I’ve never read such a gracious apology in my life.
You can’t say something like that without expecting lots of supportive hugs. Here’s one from me.
Its because your doctor had his head up his…
I hope you start feeling better soon.
That certainly does look simple, thanks so much!
It seems as though fate has already decided! Enjoy!
I take back what I said about cleaning windowsills. If we had 8" deep windowsills, they would be covered with folded blankets or kitty beds because there would be no way to keep the cats out of them.
Such a fine line between being stoned enough to put up with idiots and too high to do the job. It took me many years to find the balance point, good luck!
This! So much this! Ain’t nothing more fun than pointing and laughing at idiots.
Samoas are the only thing I can’t have in the house because I will gorge on them. I have decent self control when it comes to sweets, but I’ll eat those things frozen at three in the morning if I wake up knowing there are some in the freezer. That is usually because I go to sleep thinking of them in the freezer…
So today was more expensive than we would have liked. Hubs got in his car to go to the grocery store and it wouldn’t turn over. Instead of letting me drive, he just took my car to get a new battery. This means he changed all of my stuff because he’s ten inches taller than me.
He impulse bought a can of corned beef hash at the grocery sto and found some big packages of chicken breasts and thighs in the used meat bin so chicken tamales are on the menu sometime during the week. He also brought home some lovely yellow tomatoes and some very sad looking jalapenos so I grabbed my trusty knife and made a quart of pico. It will be better tomorrow.
Tonight was fried food night at the casa. I fried up the cornbeef hash, grated a couple of potatoes for hashbrowns which got fried in butter, fried eggs in butter and toasted english muffins which were slathered with butter to be sure they had the proper amount of grease as well.
When Hubs put the curtain rod up over the french doors, he put the center support slightly higher than the side supports. Not much but enough that if you are critical and look close you can see the bow. I didn’t see it until he did and I don’t think it is enough to bother with, but Hubs is planning a trip to Lowes tomorrow to buy the needed things to rehang the rod.
I don’t want him to put more holes in the wall, I think he should just use a pair of pliers and bend it down a little, but he thinks that’s a horrible idea for reasons that really don’t include the reality of the situation. The curtain rod doesn’t have to be strong enough to support a sports car, it just needs to be able to hold some fabric curtains.
Tomorrow I will be going to the dispensary and then to the gym.
Howdy Y’all! I enjoyed bein’ a pew plopper this mornin’. Then I got us fried chikin plates from the Pubic sto’ for N.O.L. Then the battery on my laptop decided to die. GRRR! Thus I am posting on my ipad, which is a PITA! If I am not very communicative for a few days that is why.I did accomplish nappage and the biiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow.
A piece of luck today. Over the past couple of days my Sonos music collection has been MIA. Sonos was unable to see my music library and nothing I did could coax it into appearing. To say I was upset is an understatement considering all the time I spent uploading my entire CD and LP libraries. This morning, in desperation, I shut off the Mac and rebooted. Voila!
That pose was her very theatrical TA-DAAAAAAAH! How could you think otherwise???
It’s been a bad day for MIL. Apparently a rough visit to BIL, and it only lasted 5 minutes. He’s an ass, plain and simple. His Doc yelled at him because he’s not taking his meds. Hence my belief that he needs to be in a group home. Maybe this will be the straw that breaks that camel’s back?
Then this evening, she had a mess in the bathroom and I had to help her change her clothes and get her to bed. She was in tears, so embarrassed. I helped her clean up and change, and she’s in bed now. I hope she doesn’t have any nightmares again.
I found half a rotissed chicken in the freezer so that was supper with air-fried tots and sauteed cabbage-n-onions, and punkin pie for dessert. I watched the end of my Napoleon documentary and I’m watching one now about English villages - starting in East Anglia. So back to my crocheting.
I laundered. I cleaned. The Panthers Panthered, and the Packers gave me angina(but at least they kicker they signed on Thursday can hit it). So I’m having a medicinal Wisconsin Old Fashioned, to go with the meatloaf and smashed **N.O.T.**s.
They didn’t age because they were The Invisible Mole People in disguise. Dogs know.
I owe him an apology. I thought he sucked as an NFL coach, but it looks like the owner is the problem.
Don’t yell at the mushroom, he’s a fungi!
Snark attack!
Evening all. Spent loads of time in the gym them came home to replace a fair amount of the calories I sweated off. Been slothful all evening, including keeping up with the MMP.
BBBoo, I remember rooting for Nebraska back when they were steamrolling teams in the 1970’s, I remember watching the 1971 Nebraska-Oklahoma game which Nebraska won 35-31, thrilling me and making my brother (who was rooting for Oklahoma) angry.
Sari, I try to take that pill first thing, then do something that keeps me busy an away from the kitchen for 45 minutes or so, then have a apple or banana to take the hunger off. I’ve been pretty lucky in avoiding spam e-mails, but all the soccer stuff i get during the season helps keep my inbox busy (that and Facebook notifications).
Oopsie, conga-rats on your team makling it to the series and right now looks like they’ll be facing the Dodgers (only the 5th inning though). And sounds like the week will be interesting and hopefully fun.
shoe, I was wondering about the ‘hand positioning’ too, but modesty forbore asking…fortunately I knew someone else here would ask anyway…
Indeed so.
I think my last mowage in 2023 was mid-November; loos like the same for this year (need to do mowage this week sometime).
Oopsie, as one who just barely has adjusted to a cellphone (and it’s off 80-% of the time), Apple TV and Roku and all that is still science fiction to me. Probably miss out on lots of stuff, but I don’t feel like I’m missing all that much and you folks keep me up with the current cultural events.
JtC, at least Hubs impluse buy wasn’t too expensive and could be dined upon. And you’re not going to win the argument about the curtain rods, so let him fiddle with it (using his budget, of course).
Cookie, rebooting things tend to work wonders, doesn’t it?
{{FCM}}, I thought things were calming down with BIL, looks like they are flaring up again. And I can remember changing my Dad’s depends on occasion.
And it’s after 9pm, and despite sleeping in I’m feeling rather tired so after another couple of e-mails I’ll probably head off to bed. Take care and I’ll catch you on the next MMP.
Off to sleep, perchance weirdass dream.
See you on the other side of Mump hill.
