(Old) What's the winter forecast in the MMP?

Is it too early for the weather guessers to tell us what’s in store for this winter? Have you heard anything for your area? Do share!

Farmer’s Almanac says our area will be mild and snowy. Rah.

It’s supposed to be a harsher winter with more snow this year. The last two years haven’t impressed me, but perhaps that’s about to change. Leaves are starting to change with the waning daylight hours, so it won’t be long.

Went to see a play yesterday. The wife conveniently forgot to tell me that it was three hours long. It was a trilogy about the Lehman Brothers. Well done, but way too long, and it was freezing in the theater.

Today is flu/covid vax in The Home, and the wife has a toof cleaning this afternoon. She never reacts well to the vax, so will be hibernating a lot over the next couple of days.

Ours says colder than normal, but less snow than normal.

It was a false alarm on the cleaners today. They have several people sick and are going to come next week instead. That’s ok, because it gives me more time to pre-clean! I’ve already been to the doctor (NP) and he said that as soon as I file a claim again that he’s ok with having his doctor that he works under signing off on it for me.

Now I’m trying to get motivated to do some work to get ready to possibly start seeing students tomorrow. I’m also waiting to hear back from my boss about my list of questions. To be honest, though, I really do not want to teach anymore. No matter if it’s online or in person, I don’t know that I can handle it. In some respects online is a little better because I can do prep work whenever I want, but otherwise, I don’t know how to keep children engaged while looking at me on a screen. And, there are no materials provided for me, I have to find and create everything myself. I do have quite a few resources that I’ve purchased over the years, but, I have to figure out how to translate them to being used virtually. All that being said, I don’t want to just keep quitting job after job. So, I’m going to try my best and :breathe:.

Happy Monday!

Morning all. Slept well with the windows open, temperatures in the evenings get to the 60’sF so pretty comfortable. Will call the AC company in a little bit and see what’s what. Soccer for the first 4 days of the week will be my primary outdoor activity, the 10-day forecast says little chance of rain and highs in the mid-80’s.

As for the winter forecast, it’s saying mild and wet, so to me that means lots of rain, temps in the 30’s/40’s with a couple spells below freezing and about a 20% chance of a random snow shower. Not too bad.

J-Bats, read you saga on last week’s MMP, sounds like you got caught by the letter of the law and a company/person that didn’t know how to work with you. At least it appears to have worked out in the end for you and Bob (great pic).

Cookie, not sure I have the patience (or the bladder) to sit through a 3-hour play. Hopefully they had an intermission.

Cupcakes, as one working (albeit only for 90 minutes at a time) with children, I understand your wishes, you know best what is best for you, and not having any real help…hope it works out better than you think.

Time for the morning banana, then onward into the day. Have a good week all.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up, caffeinated, fed, drugged, and all cleanded up. Thus, no YAWN or rumbly tummy. ‘Tis < snerk > 69! < snerk > Amurrkin out and N.O.S. with a predicted high of 85 and N.O.S. A Fall day in southwest Jawja. We have no big plans for the day other than schedulin’ flu/latest plague vaccines. If we can get 'em today, good, but if they get scheduled a day or two out, also good. Other than that 'twill be the usual RDOS inactivities. Sup shall be chikin enchiladas, Mexican rice, and refried beans. Fartfest to follow.

Accordin’ to The Old Farmer’s Almanac Winter will be cooler and wetter in these parts. We shall see. Right now I am more concerned with what Milton might do. Looks like little to no impact here, but one never knows what a hurricane might do as it inches forward.

Cookie I agree that three hours is waaay too long for a play. Hope all goes well with gettin’ stabbed and with wife’s toof cleanin’.

Sticky_Buns hope all goes as well as it can with the new gig.

JBats glad it all worked out for ya, but never should have happened. Great pic of Bob! ::skritches::

OK, off to see about schedulin’ gettin’ stabbed and then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

What is this winter of which you speak? Here in SW Montana the 10 day forecast is 70-80 and smoky. I have snow tires scheduled for the 21st and that’s feeling very premature.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 17c/62f with no predicted change, and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Are those clouds bumping uglies? Fucking perverts!” I don’t know, I can’t see clouds because I’ve got blue sky and sun.

Our weather guessers are suggesting a mild winter here, with a couple of cold snaps here and there. Pretty much as usual, and it really means they’ve got no idea!

We don’t bother taking snow tires off. Summer is that short in the central Colorado mountains at elevation. We had some snow in Sept, nothing stuck around. Supposed to get a little snow Thursday.

It has been a warm ‘fall’, we sat out on the deck yesterday making the most of it. Might be the last time for 6 months.

According to the smart guys, summers will keep getting hotter and winters will keep getting wetter and storms are going to keep getting worse.

When I watch the news, I keep worrying about swampy and Milton. Take care you guys.

Good, I’m glad things might turn around for you.

When I was working, the government would send us to training classes. The instructors all taught the same classes and used the same class materials and handouts. I once had to leave a two week class after the first week and they just sent me to the second week after the fires were out which says the classes are super scripted and scheduled.

Is that something you might be interested in? You would still be using your primary skills, but would be teaching adults and everyone is pretty much on the same page.

Jolene has a favorite toy she likes to carry different places and kill. Hubs gets up before I do and he closes the bedroom door so the cats don’t zoomie across the bed and sleeping hooman. This morning, Jolene’s mousie was on the wrong side of the door and she knew it.

She’s too little to make much noise hitting the door and she’s got a tiny lady-like meow so nobody heard her fussing, but I woke up hearing paws scrabbling on the floor and saw her lil white feets trying to dig up the floor. I opened the door and she gave me a strut-by leg rub before rescuing her mousie and taking it to my room where it lives.

Well, that was quick and easy. I went online to CVS, and saw I could get an appointment for ten a.m. I told OYKW and he said let’s do it, so we did. As a reward, cause we got stabbed, we bought a bag of dark chawklit Hershey’s Kisses. I’ve had two to make the booboo feel better. We went for the both shots in the same arm (meanin’ he got two shots in his left arm and I got two shots in my left arm) which we may or may not regret. If we get pitiful and puny, well, that’s what nappage is for.

Swampy, dark chocolate makes everything better, doesn’t it?

JtC I LOVE teaching life skills to anybody. But, for some dumb reason, ‘life skills’ are dirty words in most school systems. I mean, why would anybody want to learn how to go shopping within a budget, or know what to do in an emergency, or cook for yourself?? This year I did apply for a culinary arts instructor position, but no luck with that.

Speaking of no luck… I got a charming little phone call today. It was the pharmacy that makes/sells the gel injections. There’s only one group of patients that they can’t sell to: anyone on a state Medicaid program. Oh, and that’s because whoever they have a contract with doesn’t believe that anyone should have to pay for the shots (or anything else) if you have Medicaid. It doesn’t matter if Medicaid decided that the shots are medically necessary or not.

 :rage:

Afternoon soon, probably by the time I finish typing this. HVAC folks will come out tomorrow morning and right now it’s only 76F outside so still pretty comfortable. Shopping is done and sammich eaten, swimming and sauna are still on the plan, soccer practice will be at 5:30pm, so the afternoon is full.

swampy, glad the shots went well-and Hersheys is always a good reward. And I’m keeping an eye on Milton, looks like it will stay south of me, but lie you said, you can never be sure with hurricanes…

And as I was typing this, got a call from the HVAC company, they had a cancellation so someone should be out about 3pm, so there goes my swimming and sauna plan, will jut have to watch those calories today.

We took a chance and left MIL home alone while we went and retrieved FCD’s vehicle. She survived, so there’s that. Earlier, I went to the thrift store, and for about $7, I got 2 bags of miscellaneous dress-up stuff for the grands. Then to Food Lion for a few items. Now I’m waiting for FCD to get home so we can put the leaf in the dining table since we’ve got a family dinner tonight.

And apparently, I hit the electric co-op’s energy saving target, so they’re sending me $150! Go me! That’s pretty much today’s excitement. So far.

The almanac prediction for around here is “a mild and wet winter in DC and Maryland, while Virginia could be colder than average with more snow.” I don’t mind cold temps, but I’ll be hoping the “more snow” part turns out to be wrong: I’m not a fan of weather that keeps me from (safely) going places/doing things.

Winter feels far away today, though: it’s 70°F and sunny, with no humidity and a lovely breeze. Windows are definitely open! It’s supposed to be mostly like this over the next couple of weeks, though high temps will range from 61 to 79. That said, overnight lows will dip into the 40s starting tonight: I may need to start turning the heat on after the sun sets.

I didn’t sleep well at all, due to both some gastric distress and mild congestion. Very unusual for me. The cause of the former was almost definitely the buttload of carbs and sugar I had yesterday, but Saturday’s Shingrix vax might have been a contributing factor (at least for the latter). Everything is cleared up today, and I’m much less sore, but now I’m tired and really don’t wanna work. I just want to go sit on the couch and color some mandalas while I binge watch The Good Fight for the third time (I started it again over the weekend). At least the day has been quiet so far… :crossed_fingers:

Wrapping up some stuff from the previous MMP before jumping into this week’s:

Elkridge. But, Linthicum is the town next to where I mostly grew up (Ferndale): in the early/mid-'80s my brother and I used to walk the railroad tracks into Linthicum and go to both the 5-and-dime and a place that had really good shakes.

D’OH! :woman_facepalming:

My brain mixed up taps and faucets…never mind!!

Great photo! I like the fake fireplace, too.

My rewards for gettin’ stabbed on Saturday were bags of sugar-free Welch’s fruit gummies and sugar-free Twizzlers.

Nice!!

I got a surprise $300 bill from my dentist over the weekend. I called them this morning to ask how that could be, when I pay my visits in full each time and get reimbursed by insurance: turns out they underestimated my previous visit’s costs. By a lot. Don’t they know I’m trying to buy Legos and jewelry and stuff?!?

The almanac predicts cold and dry for the Chicago area even though it’s a La Niña winter which brings warm and wet.

Pilled Ursala again this morning. She was NOT happy. Only 6 more times.

MIL just called her former neighbor in Ocala to tell her about Hurricane Milton because apparently people in Ocala don’t have access to exotic things like weather reports. Like the time she wanted us to call our daughter while she was on a cruise to tell her there was a hurricane off South America (she was cruising Key West to the Bahamas) so she could tell the captain about the storm… Seriously.

She’s also fretting about their former home in Sylva, NC. Just because. It’s not like they sold it to friends or hold a mortgage or anything. I think she just likes to fret.

Milton is really pissed about his stapler.

There were intermissions between acts, otherwise I couldn’t have sat through it.

The Ms decided to cancel the cleansing of the fangs.

fcm, nice incentive there! sweet!

jbats, love the pic of bob. what a good boy.

jtc, poor jolene needs her own pile! koritza loves little stuffed things for toys. lager only likes a very specific jingle ball. it has been a year and i’m still trying to find it. luckily he does like wand toys.

today i went back to the podiatrist. things healed up so well i have a difficult time figuring out where it was. it turns out my ipad is shedding smart glass after koritza knocked it off the table. i stepped on a piece of smart glass.

while we were talking the doc clipped my nails and applied skinintegra. she would like my heels to be in better shape for the dry winter air. back in a month.

the office is really nice, very little wait time. good friendly staff, great doc. this morning there was a married couple in the waiting room. so sweet! when the nurse came out she asked if they wanted to be separate or together. they both said separate! wife first, the husband told me that they will be married 66 years next week. they got married at 19 and 17. wow. his health is a bit more delicate than hers, from what he was telling me they may do things slower, but they get out and about.

back in the office today. the cats were not happy, lager likes it when i’m home.

Well, nuts. The thing-a-ma-bob is broken and the water pan is overflowing and some other things need replacing…so about $1,500 and they’ll have the parts by Friday… May have gotten bid up some (it seems all the HVAC folks do that) but I can afford it right now so best be done with it. Only thing is that with the temperatures going down the time I have to use it this season can be measured in a couple of weeks, if not days. Well, at least I’ll know who to blame if it breaks again…

And too late to get my swimming in, so will have to exercise more tomorrow. Still have soccer practice to run.

Oopsie, hope you can sleep better tonight. And ouch on unanticipated bills…as I note above, I know what you mean…

rocky, yeah on the good foot prognosis. And nice story about the couple there.

Guess I’ll do some reading and puzzle-solving until it is time to head to the soccer fields.

Happy Moonday!

It was chilly, and 59 degrees this morning. We finally made it to the park. When I was backing out of the garage, I thought, what is that across the street? Fog, a huge white wall of fog. It literally looked like a big white wall.

I woke up at 330 again this morning. I decided to get up and I got a little bit of stuff done. Unpacked a couple of boxes and put the stuff away.
I’m trying to get stuff done, but I keep falling asleep.

I miss my old bedroom. Everything was laid out perfectly, this bedroom is so inconvenient. I don’t know if I want to spend the money to add on to it to make it wider. It’s been almost a year and I still haven’t adjusted to it.

This winter is supposed to be slightly warmer with slightly less precipitation. I can live with that.

Bob is a distinguished looking dude.
