(Old) Today in History - a pivotal moment in the MMP

exfoliating. the cat is exfoliating.

today i got the ipad’s glass fixed before i step on more pieces. i also got the protector thingy on it. hopefully this will keep the glass from shattering when it gets knocked off the table.

back to work today after taking the day off yest. to read Rockin’ Around the Chickadee (Meg Langslow #36) by Donna Andrews | Goodreads. it was a good read. i also fit in a building meeting on the lobby chairs, (they will be ordered soon), brunch at the local everything restaurant, and some sorting of items in baskets.

monday was a dr’s appt. followed by picking up drycleaning, cleaning and reorganizing a corner of the kitchen area, (found lager’s favourite jingle ball) and sorting out a few bins.

i’m not sure how productive i’ll be tonight…

Is a window catio a possibility? I once had a neighbor who’s husband built a couple (not those) for their apartment dwelling cats and the mini-catios were usually occupied when I drove by. (I guess the husband was also our neighbor, I just never talked to him…)

Snert!

Here’s hoping that things will get quieter once they get furniture and rugs delivered. And that she takes her stilts off when she is at home. Of course, back when I stilts daily, I was so used to them that it bothered my calves when I walked in flat shoes or barefoot.

We put the full length set up today. Well, hubs hung the curtain rod for me. I am fully capable of hanging a standard curtain rod myself, but I won’t do it to his standards. But it is hung and if I had a mind to start doing pull-ups, I could just open the french doors and start pretending.

The full length ones came with four panels and the shorter ones came with two panels. I tossed them all in the dryer to unwrinkle a bit and thought that I should sew the four long panels into two wider ones.

I don’t work with aquas. They are complementary to my primary colors so I didn’t have an abundance of matching thread, but after some digging I found a bit. First I hand sewed (yes, I do have a sewing machine, but it is just a basic one that can’t do the invisible stitching I wanted) a long panel and a short one together.

I called myself some unkind names and painstakingly unstitched everything, then spent another twenty minutes sewing two long panels front to back. More rude words were said and then Hubs finally got ready to put the rod up so the long curtains are hung and will get taken down later when I have the right color to do it right.

I am very happy with them, though. They changed the look of the room so much and the more fabric I hang on the walls, the quieter it will get.

The french doors have blinds between two panes of glass. The blinds stopped going up all the way which was really irritating me. I could open and close the blades, but I wanted to look at the forest without lines. Now that the drapes are up, I got inspired to go to you-tube and found the answer in about five minutes. More very rude words were said about not being smart enough to look there a month ago.

Brandishes spray bottle at you!

You warned us. I listened. I’m glad I listened, it sounds worse than I thought.

It is indeed magical! Work sure did get in the way of the important stuff!

There will always be thieves. There will always be people who abuse the system. Nothing you can do to change that. Buying yarn and spending your time to make a comfort item for a dying stranger is a kind and good thing, you help make the world a nicer place one lap blanket at a time.

That is not good. I would suggest she goes to the vet to get checked for a UTI. Her life has been somewhat stressful as well and stressed cats get UTI’s. Cats with UTI’s pee in inappropriate places because they are trying to find a place to pee that doesn’t hurt.

I’m glad you are getting your phone back, but know how much it sucks to use old tech when you are used to the new stuff. At least you will be able to make and receive calls again, that’s pretty important for a working stiff like you.

Well, that didn’t go as planned… Did my swimming earlier than usual since I was refereeing at 5:30 and 7:30pm and wanted to have my cheeburger before the games instead of having to fix it at 9pm or so. So as I am eating it, I open my e-mail and find one of the games is on Thursday (can’t ref, I’m coaching) and the other has been cancelled, so no refereeing tonight. Well, at least I had my cheeseburger…

Temperature outside is 60F and falling, inside it’s 70F and I’m seriously considering kicking on the heater…cold-blooded, I am…

Sticky Buns, that is one F’ed up place. Doc had better be good.

VanGo, glad they did something right for you. Good luck with the older model.

BBBoo, I can remember those houses and the 4-5 ‘multi-connectors’ we used to run everything; a fire hazard just waiting to happen…

FCM, sounds like you were on a scavenger hunt…someone will make use of it.

But, won’t he then go “hey, free upgrade!” and let you go ahead? Or do you plan to take the door with you the next time you move?

Hippie, like Oopsie noted, you mentioned that before; but conga-rats for the funding!

OK, need to watch my 4:30 TV and finish getting the garbage and recycleables out to the bins and the bins out to the curb. Thinking about pancakes and bacon for my late meal, just because I can. Take care all.

Soup was good, and there’s lots left over, so freezer packs are in order. Pie was good. Now I need to load the dishwasher before more crocheting. Chillage ahead!

I’m trying to not think about that.

I don’t use space heaters (except the super safe, low pull oil radiator) or other heat producing appliances except in the kitchen in the GFIC outlet connected to the new circuit and breaker box installed when I bought the place. Like the microwave, air fryer, even the hair dryer is only used in a GFIC. The crummy old outlets might have a lamp and an iPhone charger in them, but that’s it.

The aggravations of living in an historic house….

When I had cats, they loved playing with a peacock feather. I also kept the ugly ball of yarn and would throw it out holding the end and gradually wind it back into a ball.

So did I. That’s 800 kinds of effed up.

Nelson velcros himself to my right hip when I’m reading in bed during the time of year when the quilt is on.

Irked, came home, walked Nelson, et and cut some card bases in the studio. Un día más.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Stop saying mean things to that Jane Chick. I really like her!

I was uninspired by the task of making dinner, so I just had a bowl of cereal. Probably just as well, my burning mouth nonsense is sneaking up on me today and eating just this harmless cereal is a bit more spicy than I’d care for.

One of my friends that I’d always go up north to see has passed away. I originally met her when I was a college student. She was one of my professors in the Culinary Program and she was also a dietitian. She was a lovely lady who was loved by many. Fortunately our last visit when my other friends and I went to see her was good. She was in hospice for a bit and her daughter kept everyone updated on fb. My lovely friend was 83 years old and has now gone to join her beloved husband.

I got everything but this but then I heard the record screech thing. I never thought that drag queens would wear kitten heels, that just doesn’t sound nearly as fabulous as they would want.

The last time Mom wore her fancy shoes with a half an inch heel was at the dress up dinner at our last seminar. She threw them in the trash when we got back to our room. We laughed very loudly while she was doing it.

I lost the snapdragons last night but the petunias are doing better than I’ve ever achieved before. Water seems to make such a difference in plants. I expect we will lose them tonight :frowning:

Your home sounds a little scary. I do hope that the wiring has been redone since the 20th century.

As long as you are getting the good hours, yeah…not your circus.

Our UPS driver is such a pro! Our gateposts were built before big delivery vans happened. While they can get in, it is tight enough to force a lot of drivers to have to back up a time or two. Now our UPS driver, he doesn’t even hesitate long enough to check his mirrors before backing into the driveway. He’s on my holiday tipping list just because it is so entertaining to watch professionals work.

I’ve never understood the shoes by the bed thing. I hated it when I was in basic because both pair had to be perfectly lined up and I’d nudge them out of place when I had to get up to pee.

My BFF once came to work wearing different shoes because she was digging around under her bed for her shoes and didn’t realize the colors didn’t match until she got to work.

My shoes and boots all live in the closet on their proper places on the shoe/boot rack. My bunny slippers live in their place until I take them out at night and then go back to bed in the morning.

Oh, hmmm, is my CDO showing again? Closes closet door so nobody will see the color matching.

I think you did mention that in the past. You wanted a Bailey friendly door and were willing to pay for it but needed permission. Dang that it has taken this long to make it happen. If it does happen, fingers crossed that it does.

Oh, thank goodness. I am not going to say the words I have about you needing to get funding for it, I’m just happy that you are.

As to the hot flashes…it won’t help if you strip down or get in a cold shower. You will still be hot and the bathroom will be steamy. BTDT, you have my sympathy.

At least you have indoor plumbing!

Can you eat dairy? Cottage cheese, pot cheese or cream cheese? I could share recipes, soft cheeses are easy to make and mostly just involve doing other things while waiting for the milk to ripen.

I’m sad that world has lost another shining star. Your professor friend touched many lives and made the world a little better.

Howdy Y’all! Been home a while from the Wednesday night doin’s. Needed to relax a bit. The N.O.T. bar was good. There were white and sweet N.O.T. with fixin’s, plus a salad bar type thingy. Oh and baby cupcakes (N.O.C.) and grown up M&M cookies. Priest gave me homework. It’s two books on topics that are upcomin’ for some classes I have agreed to assist him in doin’.

Mrs. L.A. got a skirt in the mail today. It’s not a kilt, but it’s styled like a kilt and made of wool in Scotland. Almost $300, but it looks like it’s worth it. She wanted to wear it to the company Christmas party, but it’s staff-only this year; no spouses. She said we’ll have to go out for Christmas dinner so she can wear it. AFAIK, this is the only skirt she owns.

I put on my kilt that I bought in the '80s. I never wear it because there are some moth holes in the front. :frowning:

I have Kirkpatricks in my ancestry, and the Kirkpatricks are a sept of the Colquhouns. It would be nice to get a Colquhoun Modern kilt, but it’s like $900 for a proper 8-yard one.

Ugh, I have a fruit fly invasion. They won’t even let me enjoy a glass o’ wine. Time to set out traps.

I’m sorry about your friend, sticky buns. Hugs.

I have my wine glass covered with a serviette.

Mrs. L.A. didn’t want any Greek salad, so I ate it all. (We get an individual size and split it.) We have a Sahara Ultimate thin-crust, extra sauce, extra cheese pizza keeping warm in the oven. So much for keeping keto tonight.

Now it does~it didn’t for 40+ years after it was built. About 10 years ago a team of archeologists from the University came and asked to excavate my privy pit in the corner of my back yard. Actually a series of privy pits. It was fascinating what they dug out of there. No gold watches or jewels but lots of other interesting stuff. The unique stuff I let them keep, if it duplicated an object that was already in the University’s collection they just kept track of the numbers and left it with me. Bottles, crockery, oil lamp bases. Lots and lots of bottles……

I actually turned on the heat when I got up. Spot was cold. But so was the martini. The three cheese tortellini with meatballs was hot, though.

I get head licking.

:frowning: {{{{sticky}}}}

They park the package cars 3" apart in the building, so your gates probably look like an 8 lane freeway to them.

My shoes are by the door on the Linoleum. I just do socks inside.

[Joke]
An American, a Frenchman, and an Irishman go to a bar and order a pint. A fly lands in each one.
The American grimaces, pushes the pint away and orders a new one.
the Frenchman grimaces, plucks the fly out, and continues drinking.
The Irishman pulls the fly out, starts smacking it on the back and starts screaming “SPIT IT OUT! SPIT IT OUT YA BASTARD!”
[/joke]

The apartment in Da Hood was old enough to have a razor slot in the medicine cabinet. Bet that was fun for the demolition crew.

The house I owned before this one is just now a hundred years old. It had one of those razor slots inside the bathroom medicine cabinet.

When I went to the grocey today I saw a tea towel that said “The easiest way to remember your grocery list is to go home.”

That’s what happened this very trip too. Thought I could do it without my written list and left two things off. Oh well, tomorrow I have to go by the post office and it’s close to the store, soI suppose I can go again and pick up what I forgot. And probably buy other things I didn’t know I needed,

I bought two rotisserie chickens. One was hot and one had 1/3 off, because it was from yesterday. I’ve been buying chicken in preparation for soup mixes for the winter. Took the meat off of the bones and the skins, bones, and everything are in a pot at a low simmer. I never waste the carcasses, and have been building up a good supply of broth. It can be used for soups, gravy, or flavor in pot pies. I will buy the turkey for Thanksgiving so I can have those bones as well. I generally mix it all together. With all the good smells Mauser has been at my feet during the whole process, begging with those big, brown eyes.

I am so sorry to hear this. When my mother died I thought the same thing though.

The house I sold, having lived in it for twenty years or more, was well over a hundred years old. Maintenance was becoming a pain, so I left. But I loved the neighborhood and moved to a building that’s just two blocks away.

If you aren’t careful they will ordain you.

Today I got up close and personal with a seagull. I was walking on a dock and stopped to watch a seagull scavenging an oyster shell that a more industrious bird had dropped (and probably eaten the insides). He kept throwing it on the dock with his beak, which, of course, did little. I stood stock still. Gulls here are not terribly habituated to humans, maybe because they have the whole Sound, their version of Costco.

After awhile, he abandoned the shell but looked at me with head cocked: “Who are you, what are you, and how are you at oyster slamming?” We just enjoyed the sunshine and light breeze for several minutes. Gradually he got closer to me, until he was about a foot away. Then he tapped my sneaker with his beak. He’d tap, back up to regard me, then tap again. Then he tugged on my shoe lace. I said, “That’s not edible,” and he appeared to consider that before tapping me and pulling the lace again. Finally, he decided to tap the nekkid shin below my capris, and I said, “Aaaand, we’re done.” He hung out near me for a minute, then we both went our separate ways.

He didn’t appear to be hungry or angry. I have no idea what he was doing. He didn’t bite my shoe. He just tapped it. I took a short video of it, but I don’t know how to share it.

A little while later, a dog raced up to me. His person said, “Oh, do you have dog biscuits in your purse?” I said no, and she said, “Well, that’s odd. He’s usually pretty standoffish.” Maybe he smelled gull beak.

Business Barbie and Classic Ken are having an argument. Moving is stressful.

I wore 2-3" heels to work Monday-Thursday. (Friday we teachers wore jeans and our team shirts.) In the classroom, I was a shrimp among Goliaths, so I needed every inch I could get. Occasionally I’d stand on a chair.

I feel her. Once when my son was 15 months old, we drove to a wedding. I’d been rushing around, trying to get the baby, myself, and the diaper bag ready while my now-ex sat in the car and helpfully honked every 15 seconds. It wasn’t until we were 10 miles from home that I realized I’d put on one black and one navy shoe. At least they both had the same heel height.

Think of them as little windows on the answer to the age-old question.

Bastardi.

And here’s the Rat with the late evening report… Went back to the gym because why not (beginning to think I live there). Came home and had a couple of hot dogs, the pancakes can wait until tomorrow morning. Still lost mucho calories according to my record keeping, we’ll see if that holds over the weekend. Down to 44F heading for 35F, so about as close to freezing as it gets here in October. The forecast does say we’ll be warmer next week (highs in the 80’s), but I’ll believe it when I see it. Garbage and recycle bins are out on the curb, which means they won’t show until after 11am or so.

BBBoo, had to look up GFIC, had never seen that acronym before, but a good thing to have. And that’s neat that you have some old stuff from a privy.

Sticky Buns, sorry to hear about your friend, 83 is a pretty good run and sounds like she enjoyed life.

JtC, sounds like Brown-driver is a pro. Good on ya for recognizing it. My bed has a little padded bench at the end of the frame about 3 ft off the floor, I use it for holding my shoe collection–don’t if that’s what it’s for, but it works for me. And I did the ‘one brown shoe, one black shoe’ at work at least twice to my recollection, kept the feet under the desk those days.

swampy, your N.O.C. mention has me thinking about them and seeing where I can work a ‘binge box’ of them in my diet. Happy reading.

VanGo, good luck with the pest control measures.

doggio, I heard the joke with an Englsihman as the fussy one, the Irishman who gently removed the fly and went on drinking, and a Scotsman who did the ‘spit it out’ routine. Any group would still be funny.

Cupcakes, I occasionally forget my list too, my usual Monday and Friday shopping is usually much the same stuff, but the big Monthly shopping trip I have to remember my list.

Nellie, nice story, gulls can sometimes be very irritating, but this one seemed more curous than anything.

And after 10pm again, so need to finish up the evening internetting and get ready for bed. Take care all and see you on Thorsday.

A bit of excitement tonight. I have my chair by the window so I can look out for entertainment as well as within.

I heard a helicopter going round and casually looked out… whoa! Grabbed binoculars, huge flames just shooting up blocks away. (About 6 ish blocks from me.)

There was a roof fire around 10 pm. Philadelphia firefighters battle heavy flames at home on Green Street in Spring Garden - 6abc Philadelphia

Good thing they were able to reopen the fire station in the neighbourhood.
