(Old) Toss it on the grill in the MMP

I was loading on Top Red today. A heavy volume set, plus since it’s at the top of the belt, I had to dodge every irreg that went down. Still beats a meeting that should have been an email. I did my Senior Day Shopping, and gave Spot his ice cubes. Chicken thigh is marinating in buttermilk, so it’s naptime.

So it’s Primanti Brothers with a French accent.

It’s gray here, with periods of rain. In between these, they’ve managed to weld a chute onto the big yellow compactor bin. Good thing because many of my neighbors are incapable of accurately tossing a bag of trash into a 3 foot by 6 foot open compactor top.

Sometimes, especially for Schedule II stuff.

But did you carry on?

Date Night moved from Friday to Thursday a while ago. Last week we went to Paso del Norte. We went to Bay Breeze (the place a mile down the beach) after church on Sunday. So where do we go tonight? SWMBO said Sunday didn’t count, so we’re going back down the beach.

Speaking of church, that reminds me I have to make a pot of chile colorado for the potluck they’re having. I’ll make a big batch and we can have some Saturday night, and we can take the rest to church.

Well, I packed my first bag - three weeks early!!! It’s stuff I won’t be wearing (obviously) between now and when we go - like long sleeved shirts and fuzzy pullovers. So my small wheelie bag is stuffed. Big bag will be for pants, unders, the toiletry bag, and maybe some outerwear. And shoes, tho I may just take one spare pair. Maybe 2… So it begins.

Bed has been changed and the dirty sheets are now clean. I need to do the sheets on the guest bed, since the grandspawn have slept there 3 times. House sitter deserves clean bedding.

Beyond that, I’m mostly in a haze - short, interrupted night (stoopit dreams) so I’m in zombie mode today. Back to my recliner where maybe I’ll zonk out for a bit.

Oh no! Poor kittah must have been so traumatized!

You are very wise.

I don’t have your issues, but am pretty sure that they have the astigmatism wrinkles smoothed out nowadays. I sure hope you come home as happy as I am!

I’m honestly not sure how much I believe that. He’s still in the hospital and insurance doesn’t keep folks that long for a minor tumble down a muddy slope. We went by to visit today and he is looking fine. He was sitting in a chair with his feet up and enjoying a glass of sweettea while having a chat with folks.

The nurse at the reception desk said they had so many treats in their break room that there wasn’t room in the fridge anymore and they were sharing with other wards. I pointed out that the cakes were labeled by shifts to be sure that the night crew got some of the good stuff and she hugged me and said they would be sure of it.

No wonder we all fit in so well!

I’m glad you are feeling better and hope you continue to improve.

I’m feeling the smoke here in central WV, its not inconceivable that it is bothering you as well.

Hubs is now blaming the ravens again. He says if it was a deer, I wouldn’t have tomatoes left. I’ve never seen a deer in the front yard, I think they are afraid of the traffic noise and just don’t go there. I guess we will find out as the summer progresses.

I also plastered a smile on my face (so they could see the creases by my eyes) and fed the undercover cops. They got white guy tacos.* I’m not sure if they got the point, but it was fun to watch them try to eat tacos one handed.

*Because trump backs down on tariffs when someone stands up to him, he is now being called TrumpAlwaysChickensOut. Tim Walz once got roasted for saying he ate white guy tacos consisting of unseasoned ground beef, lettuce and cheese.

I’m probably the only one who got it, but it made me happy.

I’m also experienced enough that I know most of what is being taught in any given class, but I never fail to learn something, so I keep enjoying them.

:joy:

Best of luck to both of you!

Today we also had to go to Charleston so hubs could get cracked and stuck. (It’s weird, he passes out when he gets shots, but doesn’t have a bit of an issue with his bi-weekly acupuncture treatments.)

I went with and afterwards we went to Aldi’s - guys, they have bacon flavored and garlic flavored bread cheese as well. I haven’t tried it yet, we had a big lunch, but it is on the menu for breakfast tomorrow. Toasted ciabatta with cheese and a tangerine is a lovely breakfast IMHO.

Tonight we will throw some shish kabobs on the grill. We got a round steak, mushrooms and cherry tomatoes, plus we have onions and sweet peppers in the fridge.

We also went to PetCo and bought a very sad looking live catnip plant. Hubs asked the clerk if we could get half off because it looked so bad and the clerk didn’t hesitate to agree that a discount was warranted.

It’s on the front porch to recover a little before getting split and repotted. I might not be able to start the dang stuff from seed, but once it’s alive, I can do wonders with it.

Vent ahead.

Three times in the last couple of months, we’ve had guys knock on our door trying to sell us pest control. They always reference the neighbors who use their service (Yeah, we’ve been here over 20 years and we don’t know anyone other than the guy directly next door.) And this latest guy, when I declined, said “What, do you like bugs?”

Actually, I have no problem with them, especially outside. I don’t want anyone poisoning around my house. The ants that dare to come inside are dealt with, as is the rare mouse (only one a couple-three years back.) The only critters I’ll actively destroy are yellow jackets, because they are mean little bastards that deserve to die!!

Anyway, this guy seemed to be all offended when I told he we don’t bother with pest control services. Then he hopped on his scooter and left.

And no, we’re not anti-social. That’s not why we don’t know anyone. We just almost never see anyone. We’ll wave and say hi to the occasional person walking their dog past our yard if we happen to be out. But truly, we’ve been here creeping up on 21 years and I doubt we’ve had a dozen conversations with passers-by. Near as I can tell, people here stick to themselves. We all have big yards, so there’s no opportunity for chats over the back fence, and since we don’t have kids, I think that greatly reduces our encounters with neighbors.

I’m sure they’re pretty much all nice people. I just haven’t met any of them. And no, that’s not part of the vent. Just the salesguy.

The “it’ll be a one-hour meeting followed by lunch” all-hands wound up being two hours with a short break so people could grab lunch and bring it back into the conference room, but (a) I liked the food and (b) I got an award at the end of the meeting! Me and 43 other people*, but still! Mine was for making a noticeable** impact on the program in a short amount of time, and it came with $100 – which I’ve already turned into an Amazon gift card.

*To save time, the writeups weren’t read individually and people were acknowledged by team.
**Noticeable in a positive way, you smartalecks!

Turns out I didn’t gain anything traffic-wise by heading home in the early afternoon, because there was an accident (of course)…but it only took 5 minutes longer than usual, and since 2pm I’ve been working from home in my jammies with my doggy nearby. Not a bad Thursday at all. I’ll be logging off for the day soon, and am looking forward to another evening of dinner by the light of the TV followed by some Lego building.

Yeaaahhhh…you’re definitely solving a problem that doesn’t exist. :joy:

I get peanut butter KandyKakes from time to time; they still taste fine to me. But sometimes I wish they didn’t.

So, like, a fancy chip butty?? (:joy:)

She was supposed to be here on Saturday, to kick off the WorldPride celebration, but the day before the concert it got canceled: “Due to complications with the previous show in Boston, Shakira’s full tour production cannot be transported to Washington, D.C. in time for her scheduled performance at Nationals Park on Saturday, May 31. As a result, the D.C. show has been canceled.” I’m glad her tour complications have been resolved!

Howdy Y’all! I have had a lovely day of hermitin’. We had some quality cee-mint pond time but had to cut it short cause of rain. We accomplished nappage and we day drank. Then we had sup. Now it’s time for Netflix, chill and popcorn.

Supper was quick and easy. I air-fried wings for FCD and I finished the chickie, etc, salad. He had a side of fart blossoms (hey, he likes 'em!) and I had some grape 'maters. I’ll have my evening apple-with-peanut-butter in a couple of hours, so I have that to look forward to. Meanwhile, chillage mode.

Wifey, RN just came home. Today one of her patients was the elderly woman who offered to give us her cat Fluffy when she died. Sadly, Fluffy died a couple/few weeks ago. Mrs. L.A. said it sounded like she’d eaten a poisoned mouse, as we suspect Creamsicle did. Fluffy was an indoor cat, but the caregiver let her out on a Wednesday, and Fluffy died the following Monday. :crying_cat:

The patient has a ‘loaner cat’ now, from SPOT (Saving Pets One at a Time). The new cat has asthma, but it’s happier with the patient than it was with its foster parents.

Had some wise timing at golf league this evening. It was threatening t-storm all afternoon, we played 6 holes then decided to make a break for the clubhouse. As soon as we got in, the skies opened up with a torrential downpour.

flyboy I love the idea of a “loaner cat.”

Congrats!

The w b mason event was fun. I came home with 2 bags full. Ate my first and last Twinkie. So many pens. Highlights are: toilet shaped stress thing, wee trash bin, like toy sized, wee tape dispenser shaped like a tape gun, and a very cool tape measure.

The church had a great meatloaf, mashed tatos, green beans and my favorite salad.
Phone bill has been paid and rent probably too.

Evening all. Have just finished the grilled Ham and Cheesers on Rye, with some applesauce to finish up. Mowage and exercise have been completed for the day, so sloth mode will rule the evening,. Signed up to referee a couple soccer games Saturday (9am and 1pm) so that will keep me active. The chance of rain tomorrow has gone from 75% down to 50%, so I guess the Weather Wizards are flipping a coin tor the Firday forecast.

FCM, sounds like a good plan. I am arriving 4 days before my cruise leaves, so I’m staying in downtown London and have tickets for a train that will get me within a couple miles of the dock. And as for packing, I haven’t even made up my list yet…

Your rather more patient than I would be, I try to be polite but let them know I have a pest service that I am quite happy with, and then close the door. And I know one neighbor pretty well, two I know by sight, and the others are a mystery…and I’ve been here 25 years…

wet one, hope the weather clears up, along with your sinuses…

Pavo, maybe Mom-deer will remember that it is a safe place and will bring another visitor next year.

red, I’ll get a half-gallon of milk tomorrow and that should be good for the next week. And I usually get half-loaves anyway and do employ the freezer. Nice plan for your donations, mine usually go to Purple Heart (they’ll pickup what I have on Tuesday). Enjoy the Doctor.

Pilot, enjoy your date and the concert. Glad you car is back in your hands.

JtC, sounds like the nurses there are highly-considered there, hope Harry gets out soon. And Bacon-flavored Cheese Bread? Will have to look into that… Best of luck with the catnip plant, I presume it will be kept well away from your two feline druggies…

Oopsie, Yay! for the award, spend it all in one place or a dozen, hey, it’s free money.

flyboy, a ‘loaner cat’ is an interesting idea, I suspect a lot of them end up as adopted cats.

VanGo, good on the weather reading; as a soccer coach and referee I’ve gotten pretty good at it myself, but sometimes…

rocky, glad you had a good day out, an..interesting…collection you have there…

Coppertone, sounds like it was a good night for you, too.

And nellie, keep feeling better and be careful around the deranged avian. And as for the PTSD and folks hurting…and this is the best time, even 2 generations ago there was a lot more hurt in the world, so maybe someday…

And we’ll see what else is happening around the internet. Take care all.

My balcony apparently attracts deranged animals, either that or there IS such a thing as reincarnation and Norman Bates has transmigrated and is now a bird. Remember the yellow-beaked black bird I saw pecking away at my flower box? Apparently he returned. This morning I found six pingpong-ball-sized depressions in that box and dirt all over the balcony. I figured out it’s a starling–their beaks are yellow in spring, though I don’t know wherefore the crest. Maybe he wears his feathers that way to show he’s tough.

He hopped right on the spike strips on the railing, but I put some in the flower box anyway. I have no idea what he was up to. It’s fresh potting soil in there–no bugs or seeds. (I checked.) He’s just…deranged.

I swear I rested a LOT yesterday, but the fever returned last night. It broke again, though, and without so much dampness, so hopefully this time for sure. It reminds me of that one little kid at the dance recital who refuses to leave the stage.

I had that hair appointment for real this morning and felt much better than yesterday walking over, so I think I really am over it. Ms. Dog is sick and her person is, too, PLUS she has oral arguments in a big case tomorrow, (the person, though I could see Ms. Dog growling compelling points), so she wanted me to take Ms. Dog tonight through noon so she can prep and then present. Alas, I have Max this evening and an eye doc appointment. in the a.m.. Then the maintenance guy came to fix my outlet and ended up telling me all about how he got PTSD–a truly AWFUL story that’ll haunt me–and you can’t rush someone through that.

So many people walking around traumatized, bent, grief-stricken, depressed, anxious, in a quandary, it’s a wonder the world works as well as it does. Most humans should be wearing Civilian Purple Hearts, if such existed.

Besides your green thumb, does its status as the cannabis of the cat world have anything to do with your success rate? That is, as a plant, are its needs similar to marijuana?

This is when the sassy me who lives in my head would say, “Sure. I’m talking to you, aren’t I?”

Oopsie, congratson the award!

flyboy, glad the patient has a loaner cat. What a great program!

This cranky night nurse of many years is sure you are well thought of by nurses wherever you go!

And you’re right, no hospital keeps someone for 5 nights because they got the breath knocked out of them tipping over on their mower. There’s a stroke or major cardiac or neurological stuff being tested for and diagnosed. More De Nile is not just a river in Egypt.

Feel better, Nellie!

Just put on your best Clint Eastwood squint and intone:

You’re standing on private property. I don’t like it when people do that. Do ya feel lucky? … Well, do ya? … Punk?

Works every time.

I like it…but I just don’t squint all that well behind my glasses…

Take 'em off. You only need to see well enough to face towards the fuzzy pink or brown blob that is the target’s face. And well enough to aim.
