(Old) Trying To Reason with Hurricane Season - A Hockey MMP

You guys are so kind, I’m almost considering not continuing the tale of my mystery class - which has been postponed for a week because the instructor fell roller bladeing and sprained her wrist pretty badly. She’s almost fifty years old, what the heck was she doing on roller blades anyhow?!?!?

The jack hammering across the street stopped around lunch time and didn’t start again which was nice. It was annoying enough across the street, I don’t think I would have lasted longer than a couple of minutes if it was happening in my home.

Now they are hauling off all of the broken up concrete, I suspect it is getting dumped at the back of their businesses parking lot, but don’t know. There are pipes laid out on the grass so it looks like they are using hot water instead of electric strips. I hadn’t heard the final decision and kept forgetting to ask.

This morning I found a pot of glow in the dark petunias (Firefly Petunias) on the porch with a note thanking us for the use of our driveway. I need to catch the neighbors and find out where they got them, I’ve been keeping my eyes open for them but no luck so far. They don’t grow from seeds so I’m not concerned about introducing invasive bio-engineered plants into the forest.

To be honest, I’m not really that concerned. I know how to pack things well and have never had things I’ve packed arrive damaged. Stoopid shippers that put one little disc drive in a big box with no padding are the ones causing you damage stats to stay so high.

That’s as long as I’m shipping things in CONUS, every time I’ve shipped packages overseas, they have been opened and contents have been removed.

They know when you are stressed, I’m sure of it!

It sounds like you are getting the job down pat, though. I wish you liked it better.

Do I dare to ask how that unfortunate person offended her or would the pettiness put us all on the fainting couch?

I hope the M&Ms are located. I’m blaming the guys from the English Lit team, English majors tend to be very odd folks.

Its warm here too. Hubs caught Harry watering my hydrogonias, so I guess I’m going to need to pay better attention to them. I didn’t think they looked peaked but I’ve never grown them before.

We are being promised thunderstorms on Sunday, that will be a nice break if it happens.

Getting a carrot for the stick, Nice!

That’s always a fun night in my book!

What a cutie patootie!

Oh dear, run your sinks until the water is clear and then flush your toilets several times to avoid staining the porcelain.

So besides the excitement across the street, it has been a quiet day. I went to Charleston and picked up my new Handmaid uniform (she did a very nice job) and then went to Aldi for some cider. I should have gone next door to Great Clips and got my bangs trimmed, but I forgot until I was half way home.

Tomorrow I have to go for a fasting blood draw so will obtain a box while I’m out. It might mean that I have to go to the good booze store, but I can deal with that

Howdy Y’all! We had some really nice quality cee-mint pond time followed by nappage. An executive decision was made to have majik intartoobz pizza and sallit for sup. Thus the leftovers will get et tomorrow. Both of us got perhaps a bit too much sun today so methinks tomorrow we shall forego quality cee-mint pond time. No sunburn, but definitely feels like some out of sun time is warranted.

Knotty a trip to the ice cream shop seems a perfectly reasonable thing to do after you get a shot.

BooFae I say a case of missin’ M&Ms calls for a thorough investigation. I think the British equivalent of the Feds should be called in.

MetalMouse hope breakin’ the fast fixes what ails ya.

Taters glad y’all enjoyed the ride. Hope all went well with hubs optometrist appointment.

Rocker I wish you more kitteh therapy tonight after a day of :: shudder :: human contact.
:: shuddder ::

Mollie :: skritches :: to Chloé from Unca swampy! You and only you will know when you are ready. When you are ready, we will stand up and cheer. Glad you like your new drawers. Like the snazzy shoes!

shoe in the Speshul Snowflakes defense, I would always choose ham.

doggio I get all the decrepit geezer discounts. It’s the supreme perk of bein’ a grumpy old man. It’s even better than yellin’ at whippersnappers!

Nuts do sump’n to treat yourself, then slob. Your friend got a good deal there! My own handwritin’ makes serial killers cringe.

JtC glad the jack hammer has stopped and nice of the neighbor to bring you the flowers.
52 hope the water is less yuck by now.

A very calm day. Did nearly nothing. Chewy order arrived, but the ketchup I ordered about eight days ago is MIA. The wife likes Portland Ketchup, which I have to admit is a cut above other brands, and Amazon has a problem filling the order for some reason.

This new dietary experiment seems to be working. I feel more alert and am not having the intestinal distress any longer.

And a good early evening all. Feeling better, moppage was performed and got my exercise in without any dizzy spells and will shorty fix myself a Cheeburger for dinner. Temperature got as far as 87F but has cooled to ‘only’ 82F now.

Taters, electric motor or no, that’s quite a lot of cycling, not surprised your knees were complaining.

Mollie, that is one cute pup and she’s probably even cuter now. As for the Dad’s group, I hope they surprise you when the time comes.

red, Oooh, butter pecan…good thing I’m in the house or I might head out to the local shop…

FCM, glad the mast went up well.

Nut, glad the rain you needed actually showed up.

52, Well, at least someone else was responsible for fixing the water problem. NAd concur as more people use the water it’ll clear up for you. And reading further, Nettie and JtC have much better suggestions than me.

JtC, hope you get some more petunias, would love to see them.

Cookie, glad the revised diet is working for you. Keep it up.

And time to make me a Cheeburger. Catch y’all later.

Nice shoes, mollie!

Very much better!

It never gets old.

The more I hear about Amazon, the more glad I am that I avoid anything to do with them. I hope you get your package soon, metal mouse!

boofae, EDS sounds like a real piece of work. I hope you are shed of her sooner rather than later. Have fun at the Giffard!

Glad mast erection < snerk > went smoothly, FCM. Pretty cool!

Hope the allergy shot was uneventful, knots, and that the ice cream delighted you.

mollie, Chloé is too dang cute for words. That face!! Mrs. Magill is a jewel, too. And I love the Pride shoes!

Oh, no you don’t! Finish the story, please. Agree the instructor is a bit nutty to be strapping on roller blades at her age. They nearly did me in in my mid-30s!

I meant also to mention to you about the foxtails v. Mountain Sweet Cecily seeds. I’m familiar with foxtails, too, but thankfully, we don’t have those here. The MSC seeds look a lot like fennel seeds, only longer and black (Mountain Sweet Cecily). I think I’d take foxtails over them. They’re just nasty, and I can’t believe people plant their seeds on purpose!

I’m glad you’re getting a respite from the jack hammering. The rest of the project will hopefully produce less noise. The Firefly petunias are intriguing. What a thoughtful thank-you gift. I’ll have to look for them.

Another gorgeous day here, out early in the cool morning for some weeding and Ollie Time.

Today I also spotted this year’s bun that lives in a warren behind the house. I don’t know if it’s the same bun each year or a successive generation, but it always tickles me to spot it. Never more than one. Its coloring is the same brownish-gray of the dirt, so pretty good camouflage. It likes to eat a particular flower that grows in my lawn. I enjoyed watching him/her put a bunch of those away today. Twice. That bun is in a good spot to avoid predators!

Can’t decide how to prepare the chicken thighs I defrosted for dinner. Either painted with smoked paprika/onion powder/garlic powder/Cayenne pepper/black pepper/salt in olive oil and baked in the oven, or grilled with garlic/Dijon mustard/green onions/Italian parsley/Cayenne pepper/salt in olive oil. Probably the former. I’ll roast some sliced potatoes and asparagus alongside.

Ok, that’s enough out of me for now.

I agree that it was very thoughtful, especially considering the part that I never see flowers in their yard. I’m sure Harry said something, he knows I was looking for them. I took them into a closet and they do glow some, but of course my eyes weren’t adjusted to the dark. I’ll see if I can get my phone to take a decent pic tonight.

Also, I’m glad you posted, I almost forgot about the crows. Yesterday evening I heard a racket and saw a couple of crows rolling around on the ground in the midst of mortal combat. They were pecking and hitting with their wings and getting serious enough that I was thinking I should go and do something.

Suddenly a couple of mockingbirds got involved for whatever reason and started jumping on them and pecking anything that wasn’t a mockingbird.

I started cracking up loud enough to startle the birds into flying off, but man, I adore mocking birds, they are such jerks and so silly. I still wonder what the crows were fighting over, guess I’ll never know.

Up from naptime, having a Royal Hawaiian, Smoked Paprika Chicken, and cheesy potatoes. Watching the Stanley Cup Finals.
So yesterday I got a letter from the state saying I was uninsured, and demanding conformation documents. the next day. Apparently despite the fact I’ve had the same car and policy since 2018, Flo managed to lose the last 4 digits of Carmen’s VIN. All it cost me was a 10min phone call, but a weirdly irksome problem.

< insert metal picture of some kilted Ancient Egyptian guy writing down student’s answers on a clay tablet >

They’re shutting off my water tomorrow all day for a line fix. That should be fun after a long shift in an un air conditioned warehouse.

A warm cat, a cold martini, and some sword YouTubes is peak joy.

I was caught again…

I am pretty certain that I have posted this here before, but maybe i haven’t:

The Music Man

One hot summer afternoon Mom and I took the bus downtown. We ate Chinese food at King Fong’s and then went to the Orpheum theater and saw a movie. We took the bus back to our neighborhood. We stopped at Goodrich Dairy store for Ice cream cones to eat on our four block walk home from the bus stop. I ordered pistachio ice cream because it sounded so exotic.

I remember this night like it was yesterday; the heat, my first Chinese restaurant, the movie and the ice cream on the short walk home. It was 64 years ago. I was nine years old, and the movie was The Music Man. I am sure y’all have seen it. To give this some context, remember Ronnie Howard as Winthrop inn the movie. He and I are the same age.

Mom passed twenty six years ago. I watch the movie every time it rolls around on TCM, remembering the taste of pistachio ice cream…….

The movie popped up on my YouTube feed. It is something that I can not resist, especially after I have been drinking wine all evening. So now, I am watching the movie once again with tears rolling down my cheeks and missing Mom

To be fair, this is the first problem I’ve ever had with them and the replacement is due by Monday, so no big thing.

Bright Tree, look forward to update on Bun.

JtC, the crows were probably disputing territory or maybe just a couple family members having an argument (in this way, crows are much like humans). The mockingbirds are probably just jerks, however…)

doggio, yeah, I’ve always been insured so I don’t know if Ali-bama harasses folks about it, but glad it only took 10 minutes to resolve.

Hippie, sorry for any typing errors, damn eyes are blurry…thanks for sharing.

9:30pm and I was up at 6am so heading off to bed soon. Catch y’all on Firday.

The clay tablet would be a robed Sumerian guy. The kilted Ancient Egyptian guy would be writing on a scroll of papyrus.

Fill your tub before you go to work. (Don’t forget to shut the door to keep Spot out!)

It’s not that I don’t like it. I’m grateful to have it. It’s just different from what I’ve been doing the last 30+ decades.

Our HR person came to see me this afternoon. First thought: ‘Oh, bugger. What did I screw up now?’ But she was actually there to inform me that I would be eligible for medical/dental/vision insurance on July the 1st. Seems pretty good (Regence Blue Shield), and less than $50 per pay period. And I got my Medicare card on the 1st. (Got the Part B premium bill today. Over $800. :frowning: )

This is pedantic, and i love you for it.

Hippie Beautiful story. I’ve got some dust in my eyes from reading.
I’ve had the “Music man” song partially stuck as a brain worm for a couple of weeks. “he’s a what he’s a what, he’s a music man.” If the damn rest of the song would just finish in my head I think I’d be done whit it. Something something sells coronets blah blah blah.

“He’s a music man and he sells clarinets to the kids in the town, and the rat-a-tat drums and the big brass bass, big brass bass.” (Quoted from memory; no guarantees on accuracy.) That was the school musical my senior year of high school.

“My Sweet Lord” was playing at WalMart last week and I’ve had that playing in my head. I’d rather have The Music Man or Brigadoon.

I count it as a positive that you still have that kind of feeling for your mom.

flyboy, congratulations on getting to the health insurance point!

JtC, I love reading about your interactions and relationships.

I took a bath, yay! I’m off restrictions, and “if you do something and it hurts or you bleed, stop doing it.” Okay then.

Dental appointment with a new practice today. If my insurance agrees, we may go for Invisalign on the bottom teeth followed by new crowns with some adjustments for better bite and wear.

My lovely wife will have surgery on her finger tomorrow. We do know how to have fun.

What else? I had a consultation today on moving my books from Amazon to IngramSpark. With some tasks jobbed out, the first of them will run me about $500, but I’d rather get off Amazon KDP. Once I become familiar with IngramSpark, I may be able to reduce that amount by a little for the next book I convert. I have some preparatory work to do, so I’ll have time to think about my options.

JARVIS WINS IT IN OT!

Hippy Lovely anecdote. I tried to think of a similar tale, but my mother was a Ken Russell fan, which is definitely a different vibe.

Here’s the thing: Regence, which I’ve had, is good insurance for less than $100/month. Medicare Part B, which is pretty limited, costs over $202/month… but if I don’t take it, then there will be a penalty – forever – because I didn’t take it, when I take it later. I could opt out of my employer’s insurance, but I do use dental and I should use vision. I think my prescriptions are about $90 every three months, with a couple of excursions for meds I should be using but don’t as I should. As I mentioned, there is a permanent penalty if you don’t sign up for Medicare Part B within three months of eligibility. So I signed up. What happens if I cancel it? Will I still be assessed the ‘penalty rate’ when I re-join? Hopefully, I’ll have my employer’s insurance for the next five years (at least).

(((hippy)))
