Sadie is a major million dollar kitty! If I lived closer I’d have to drive over and skritch that expanse of belly floof she is flaunting at the world. She is gorgeous and she knows it! Be worthy of her.
I don’t watch football anymore. I’m in the US, so I mean that kind, but I never cared much about the soccer kind, either. Years ago, I liked the NufFLes and college football, but the brain damage thing turned me away forever. I’ve read that CTE happens to soccer players, too. Not so much from bashing into each other or the ground, but from heading the ball.
My wife’s online purse marketing uses, and generates, a lot of empty boxes. The parent company, Poshmark, had a deal with the post office to use Priority Mail, for which the USPS printed & gave out preprinted white boxes. We have a slew of those in our garage, which I call Scenic Mount Christy. Now, though, the USPS has done away with Priority Mail. Poshmark says they’re going to use Ground Advantage Mail. The kick in the pants is that USPS will no longer accept their own preprinted white boxes. Scenic Mount Christy will be cut up for the recycle bin.
Today I ain’t doing anything to heat the place up- the heating system is currently set to come on at 12C, which is the closest I can really do to turning it off without more faff than I’m willing to deal with.
I was planning on using the shiny new woodburning stove I treated myself to this summer, as it’s chilly, very wet, Monday and I had to play with liquid nitrogen at irk. I did use the stove a few times when it was newly fitted to cure the paint, but alas, apparently I didn’t actually heat it up enough to cure the paint, probably because it was really warm weather; I managed to take some paint off the top when I wiped it clean after finishing the decorating in the room. So I repainted the top this morning to make sure I don’t get rust spots, only to double check the tin and realise it needs leaving 24 hours before using, unlike the spray version of the paint which said it was best to use the stove to cure the paint 8 hours after painting. So much for using it this evening then.
The weather doesn’t look much better for the rest of the week though and it’s due to be chilly on Sunday (6c overnight), so it can wait.
And something for the late morning, got my shopping done, put $25 in gas in the tank and got my Jersey Mike’s #3, so I have accomplished things. Probably head over to the gym but will try to reduce my workouts some, I think I have been overdoing and can manage with a little less activity. Plus I have a soccer game to referee at 5:30pm on a field that requires about a 1/8 mile walk and around 150’ vertical climb before chasing 9 year olds for 50 minutes, so there will be some work there. Also need to pick up a new ledger for tracking my assets/expenses (yeah, I know it’s kept on-line and is easily accessible but TRADITION! Oh, and the AC was turned on and the windows closed a 10:45am when it reached 81F inside the house.
rocky, glad the family stuff went well. And glad the alarm was false, has to be a concern I imagine in a place catering to older folks.
nellie, hope you get feeling better as the day progresses.
I think thou may have preempted my preposition..on the water meant actually sailing off somewhere…
I am considering it, but since it’s installed above my stove and I have no idea how to remove or replace it, the costs would probably be comparable.
doggio, always nice being ready if the Addams Family drops by…
cookie, lovely Sadie pic; wish my neck worked that good…
Our youth soccer league has a rule that heading the ball cannot be done until they player reaches the U14 age group, for that very reason (along with the chance of concussions). And haven’t heard about Priority Mail going away, do you have a reference, I can’t find anything on it and that seems like a reasonably big deal…
Nut, sounds like the painting is giving you some issues; hope it works out for the best. Stay warm.
And time to do a couple more semi-responsible things before working up a sweat at the gym. Back later.
You and me both, brother.
This needs to be embroidered on a throw pillow!
Same way one draws blood while dusting? OK, I was changing out pictures in a frame and the edge of the glass… well, you know.
Yes, I dusted. And I discovered that the cabinet holding the TV is, in fact, brown, not white! Yeah, it was a bit dusty, which is what inspired my productivity. But it’s done and I need to add Pledge to my shopping list.
I also pulled a poke chop out of the freezer. Yes, just one - we split one for supper and it seems to be enough, along with the assorted sides. I’ve also emptied the dishwasher and cleared the breakfast counter of all manner of crap - some to the trash, some actually put away. Go me!
We’ve installed (R&R) three microwaves over the stove in the last 21 years. It ain’t easy, and this last one is gonna be the last one. If I’m not able to get new cabinets before it dies, we’ll just put up a shelf and set a regular unit on it. But yeah, the over-the-stove models are a tad more than countertop types.
I just pulled my specs off to clean a smudge, and the words on the screen dissolved into blurry gray lines against the white. Used to be I could squint and make out a little bit. Not any more. Dammit.
My motivator seems to have run down. I think I hear my recliner calling!!!
We’re still having 80 and 90 degree days here south of San Jose, so no heat issues yet. However, we are having air conditioner issues. Mr. brown discovered that some little part has been silently dripping a little bit of water behind our dryer for who knows how long. It’s damp and mossy back there. He has been working to try to fix that, without success so far, but further attempts will have to be put off until tomorrow. Yesterday’s Covid shot laid him low and he hasn’t gotten out of bed yet today, nor had anything to eat. I can’t make lunch plans until he arises and we see how well he feels.
Yesterday I discovered that my potted mint had gone all mildew-y. That was surprising; I thought mint was about the most indestructible plant on the planet. But approaching autumn was starting to throw shade on my potted herbs, so maybe that was it. I had planned a Thai shrimp salad yesterday, and one of the ingredients is fresh mint leaves. Luckily I found just enough healthy leaves for the recipe. So this morning I went to the nursery and got a new mint and as soon as I can access the yard waste bin (it’s trash day), I’ll dump the moldy mint, scrub the pot, and replace it with the new healthy mint.

High temps here are still hitting the upper 70s/low 80s (F) during the day, so no warm-up needed in that regard. I have just started noticing, though, that I’m a bit chillier than usual in bed at night while trying to fall asleep. All summer I was fine with just a sheet + a small weighted blanket for my legs/feet, but within the last week or so I’ve been thinking it might be time to put a thin blanket back on top of the sheet…even though the overnight lows are still in the 50s/60s. One of these evenings I’ll remember to get one out of the closet before I get into bed.
I’m glad to be in the office today – breaks from the house full of Bailey reminders are appreciated – but I’m still kinda tired from everything* so I’m also glad that work is on the quiet side. Things will spin up tomorrow, though, and I’m hoping for an early-ish bedtime.
*And from not getting enough sleep last night…stupid engrossing book!
Lego therapy is helpful: I started assembling the Sanderson Sisters’ Cottage (from Hocus Pocus) yesterday, and got about halfway done. There are 8 sections left; I should finish it by the weekend. Then I’ll be happy to focus on my new Atari 2600+ until it’s time to put the other Halloween/autumn sets together.
Oooo, a source! I’m hoping the early March weather in Dallas will be quite tolerable (i.e., not too hot)…reasonable assumption? Does early spring there get rainy?
The kids live in Addison, which seems like a nice 'burb. Their apartment seems really nice…though they’re paying about what I do in rent!
I can’t imagine winding up with an epitaph, but if I do I want it to simply say “OBE.”
(Military/business-speak: it stands for “overcome by events.” )
None of my childhood Atari stuff remains, unfortunately. I’m kind of ridiculously excited about the new toys that will be arriving tomorrow (!).
!
Oh yay! I’m so glad that suggestion was helpful!
Change DE to VA and that’s my cousins and me.
Are you trying to lose a hand, woman?!? [Admiral Ackbar] It’s a trap! [/Admiral Ackbar]
It’s always a trap!!

Welp, Max’s person has Covid. Hopefully I haven’t caught it. She said this is the 6th bout she’s had, and she’s all boosted. She said the doc told her he can’t give her Paxlovid because it’s not effective on the current strain. Anybody hear anything like that?
cookie, Sadie looks the picture of contentment in that photo.
This is a gem. I’m sharing it with my daughter.
I grew up across the road from a very old cemetery and my favorite epitaph is this one:
Remember me as you pass by.
As you are now, so once was I.
As I am now, so you will be.
Prepare for death, and follow me.
Boy, do I know that feeling.
… and that one.
Okay, so N. TX weather is of the “wait five minutes” variety, so predicting it months in advance is a fool’s errand.
But I will say, Addison is niiiiiiiice there’s a big park and approx. a zillion restaurants.
I like that one!
I think my favorite is from medical stuff: “injuries incompatible with life.” (Usually used for decapitation, getting cut entirely in half, things like that.)
It seems that last week, my granddaughter broke her clavicle - SIL took her to the doctor today since she was still complaining it hurt, and the x-ray revealed the unpleasant surprise. She’ll see an orthopedist on Wednesday. I have visions of a half-body cast, but I’m sure that’s wrong. Still, my poor baby…
Its getting cold at night, but the AC is still kicking on during the day. Currently, its 85F and pretty sunny.
I haven’t seen any hummingbirds today, but there is another young Cardinal coming over for breakfast. He’s still got some of his baby fluff and looks very adorable.
I wanted to go to the dispensary this morning, and Hubs thought he could stand to get out of the house so came with me.
While we were out, we saw a new sign announcing a new cat only vet clinic. While we do like and trust our current vet, his waiting room is very chaotic and usually filled with poorly trained and controlled dogs. We drove by (they were closed for lunch) and saw that they had really steep concrete steps which was disappointing. There is no way I would be able to get GG down those stairs and Jolene would be a challenge.
I was planning on stopping at the plant nursery for a couple of pots of mums, but there was construction on the road so we went the other way home instead. That put us driving by the Japanese Steakhouse so we stopped for lunch.
I called them when we got home and the lady who answered the phone said they would be happy to come to my car and get the fuzzbutts for me. They have a groomer who is familiar with Maine Coons, which will be nice in the spring. They have me in their system and will text me when its time for the fuzzbutts to get their well-kitty visit. I really do like and trust our current vet and won’t be leaving in a snit or anything.
I did a bunch of adulting, our lawyer wanted our financial accounts which prompted me to be sure my address and email was correct with them. I won several pieces at the ANG auction and haven’t allowed myself to even check the package because I have one adult thing to do first.
Its never too early for Halloween decorations! I’ve been seeing giant skeletons in yards for a couple of weeks at least. Hubs grumbles. I approve.
I was working again and couldn’t find my way out.
I’m glad Sadie is feeling better, hopefully it was just a hairball.
Well dang. I hope you enjoy it when you can use it. Do you worry about the paint making the room smell ick?
The skol bus just stopped which tells me that I need to get off my butt and finish adulting. TTYLs
It stank up the place when applied, which is why I did it this morning right before leaving for the day… It’ll probably smell a bit on first use as well, it did the first time I tried it out, but it wasn’t too bad, the wood smoke masked it, even though that wasn’t too strong either.
What with all the decorating, the room’s been pretty much continuously smelling of something for months anyway…
You might ask if they have an accessible entry around back. After I had surgery, I was able to alert the desk I was there, and they came around back to take the cats in.
ETA–never mind! That’s good news.
Uff da! Usually it is a brace these days unless it is a bad break. Hope she heals well.
She’s young so I guess that’s in her favor. But the girl is go-go-go, so that could be a bit of an issue. We’ll find out on Weds. Poor baby…
We went to Salsa’s for supper since I put the poke in the fridge to thaw and it didn’t - at least no much. Now we’re home and I’m thinking it’s time for fuzzy robe and slippers, because I can.
In today’s mail, was a plain envelope addressed to me, no return address. There were large letters showing thru from the contents that said 'UNDER ATTACK!!!" I assumed it was a request for $$$ for a political group.
Nope - it was some religious group wanted $$$. They even gave me a fridge magnet with a prayer on it. I’m pretty sure they won’t be happy that it all ended up in the garbage can. Last week, I got a letter asking me to join some church - I’m going to assume it was a mass mailing that went to everyone, but I suppose I could be targeted. That also got trashed.
I like email so much better - I have an excellent spam filter.
Same here. If it’s one that’s built in or above the stove though, it may need a pro to check it out. I have one above the stove now and am looking to find a home for the one that I brought with me.

I have visions of a half-body cast, but I’m sure that’s wrong. Still, my poor baby…
Nah, they’ll likely put her in a sling and she’ll have to wear tops loose enough to go over the it (younger sis borrowed my tops when she broke hers. The sling immobilized the arm, which had to be kept against the body). I doubt that treatment has gotten more draconian in the last 50 years. Sending good vibes to Roxie though.
After this morning’s post, I called the dentist. It’s been a week and I still have a knot on my jaw and am spitting nastiness. They got me in an hour after the call. The dentist who saw me this time diagnosed cellulitis and referred me to an oral surgeon for treatment Thursday. She also prescribed a stronger antibiotic to get things moving. Once home, I did KP, then threw a load of clothes in the wash. Between the washer and the dryer, I picked up the prescription. The clothes are dry now (I now know that a full load of wash equals two loads in the dryer). BIL will be here shortly to add a brace to the dolly under the washing machine.
So goes things at CasaRoja.
