Gave my blood work yesterday ahead of my physical.
My glucose was 82 again even though I had chocolate before.
I know, I never fast though.
So thats good as expected.
Cholesterol slightly high.
Sodium one point under normal. I do not drink too much water. I have been cutting down on sodium cause I worry about bp.
Traini g was better yesterday. Off today.
Morning all. Slept in until 6:30am with no urinary interruptions, so feel pretty good. Another day without much on the schedule until I coach the 6 year olds at 5:30pm, so we’ll see what else needs to be done. Only 64F this morning, but that won’t last, due to reach 92F by this afternoon and drought time will continue.
lily, nice of you and sweetie to be of help to neighbor. Being a bachelor, I wonder what I will do when (inevitably) I need some type of surgery like that. Well, that’s a problem (I hope) for later down the road.
flyboy, you made me do a little research and rice is high-calorie, high-carb, so I guess it can add weight quickly. The things I learn reading here…
Nut, wouldn’t surprise me if all the cones were gone, again without explanation. It is one of the mysteries of the universe…
boo fae, happy Tomato-condiment (Catch-Up) day. And good news on the Muffin front, sounds like she is beginning to trust things/people around her.
swampy, happy mowage, mine is planned for Sunday.
FCM, hope she doesn’t need the cap all the time…earphones are optional…We have a new Aldi fairly close to me, but still a bit off my usual pathways, but may have to give it a look-see sometime soon.
Pilot, I know the feeling, I try to pack a lot in my trips so I often joke I need to come home for a vacation.
Coppertone, glad training was better and sounds like the medicalstuff wasn’t too bad.
And time for my Big Bowl O’Cheerios and an apple. Catch y’all later.
Mornin’ everybody.
It’s 56°F, dark and cloudy right now. We’re expecting a mixture of sun and clouds, with an anticipated high of 75°F. Sunrise is an hour away as I type this.
FCM, adorable pic. I often use a silk sleep cap too; it cuts down on hair breakage from rubbing around on the pillows while sleeping.
BooFae, yay on more progress with Muffin! I saw the video on FB.
Nut, I wonder if one of the locals is messing about with the cones because they don’t like the new layby? Does that happen over there?
Lily, it’s very kind of you and your sweetie to help out your neighbor like that.
Pilot, when we used to go to Kauai, we purposely packed very little into our days, because we were all on someone’s clock at that point, and who wants to be on a clock while on vacation?
Coppertone, I’m glad the training was better yesterday. I thought the training ran through Friday?
As for grocery lists, I used to use them when preparing a specific type of meal to ensure I didn’t forget something. Ironically, even with the list, I sometimes forgot something critical. I don’t often use them now. I go up and down each aisle when shopping, but yes, grocery store rearrangement really messes with that method. Seems like my Safeway rearranges things every year or so. Costco moved its soda, which really threw me for a loop, but I eventually found it. I rarely drink it anymore, but my husband still really enjoys his Diet Coke, so we continue to buy it.
I mainly drink water now, and because I drink so much water (and coffee in the morning, black), it seems like juices and soda are sickly sweet to me. I’ll occasionally drink a Diet Coke now, but only if it’s cold; otherwise, it seems syrupy.
As to the laundry “schedule”, I realize I don’t need to be on one, but it just keeps things more orderly. The new schedule would be when the hamper is mostly full. I’ve decided I need some new duds for the trip—at least one pair of new jeans and a couple of new tops. I tend to wear my clothes forever, and upon looking them over, I notice some are showing their age.
I plan on just taking a carry-on bag so that I won’t be taking much, but I’ll have to ship some shampoo, conditioner, and other stuff out there. I use Kenra Professional hair products, but they don’t come in a travel size. Also, if I’m not packing toiletries, I have a little more space in the carry-on.
I’ll also take my laptop bag as my personal item, and I can stuff a couple of things in there, too. I’ll take my tablet and phone with me.
As to NextDoor, I barely read it anymore, for the same reasons listed above. Just about any news story around here has comments that are along the same line, too. I tend to avoid the news for much the same reason, but I keep reading it so I know what’s going on locally, anyway.
Black Rabbit is on Netflix today, so both my husband and I will watch it. He’s looking forward to it, so I expect that will eat up a good part of my day. Other than that, some tidying, watering, and other minor chores will be completed.
My husband is looking forward to eating whatever he wants while I’m gone. I loathe frozen chicken strips (weird texture), fish sticks, and hot dogs. He plans to enjoy some of that while I’m gone. I’ve told him numerous times he should buy that stuff for himself, and when he wants to eat that, I’ll fix my own dinner, but he refuses to do that. I am disappointed that he won’t drive my son and me to the airport, so I’ll have to pay for shuttle service, which adds more cost to the trip. I don’t know why he is being grumpy about that; he is the one who encouraged me to go. Oh well.
I also spent some time adulting yesterday, going through my drawers of paperwork and organizing. I bought a fireproof document container and now have all our important documents organized in there. I feel good about that; no more hunting through files tossed haphazardly in a drawer, which became disorganized because of the search for documents.
Okay, I need to get a move on. Please take care of yourselves.
these days elevator porters are mostly freight elevators in office towers. the majority of people don’t use the freights. i found out in my wild nyc delivery that in the empire state building the operators are not able to sit. most have a fold out seat or a chair. not esb! higher security buildings have security that also man elevators. the court building in philly has them, but not city hall.
yest. nature decided pouring down rain was ness. starting at 4:30pm. it was in sheets of wind blown rain at the evening rush. it was raining in the shuttle as well as outside. the wind side half of me was soaked.
hurray miffin! look at you exploring!
They keep changing training days.
We open Monday. I am supposed to work Mon, Wed, Thurs 10:30-2, which is less hours than I was hoping for.
LOL - that’s her pre-bedtime relax mode. She’s allowed 30 minutes of tablet time on approved sites.
Get your terminology right - it’s a bonnet! Yes, I’ve been corrected when I misspoke.
We made the mistake once of vacationing with a planner. He couldn’t just chill - we had to have a plan. In Key West, fercryinoutloud!!! It was rather funny when we were in a group with them after that trip - they remembered it as a wonderful time. FCD and I just kept our mouths shut.
Seriously? I’ll say no more.
Well, my jaunt this morning was interesting. I didn’t make the opening at Aldi - the parking lot was insane!! So I went to Food Lion and walked most of the aisles. Since it’s not exactly like the one in Leonardtown, I need to learn its layout. It’s bigger, so a bit more of an adventure.
Once done there, I did go to Aldi. It’s a tad bigger than the other, but mostly laid out the same. I got what I wanted plus a few more things. And I discovered they don’t have self-checkout lanes. I know the one I usually go to apparently had lots of problems with theft - they added several security measures. I don’t mind being checked out - just hope they have sufficient workers that the lines don’t get stupid long.
I filled my car, and waited with a bunch of folks outside the thrift store till one woman looked on her phone and discovered it’s closed today. Dammit. At least I didn’t go out of my way - it’s smack between Food Lion and Aldi.
All in all, a mostly successful errand. Now, lunch.
Well, the cones were in the same place as yesterday, looking all innocent… I am not fooled.
The layby’s not new, the junction’s been there ages as access from the village to the main road (and vice versa), as has the layby, just the new road into irk is new, and the junction got a bit upgraded when that got added. I doubt anyone would object to the new access road to irk, it massively reduces traffic in the village, and plenty of residents use the junction as well.
I think this was just some muppet who got told to go block off the layby with cones who misunderstood and blocked the whole road instead. I think they’re actually just planning on using the layby to store kit for some minor alterations to the biig junction nearby.
I did nothing useful today bar gossip. I could claim it was networking I guess…
Some heat relief today and more coming tomorrow, with some rain along with it. We’re supposed to go pick apples tomorrow, but I’m not sure the wife is still up for it. She canceled out on the orchestra concert we have tickets for today. That doesn’t bother me at all, as it means I don’t have to spend two hours with an aching back.
I was finally able to do something about the wife’s government TSP allocation. A year or two ago, they decided everyone had to create new passwords, etc. I was able to do mine, but hers got hopelessly bolloxed up, which was likely my fault. I just thought well, screw it, as we no longer allocate to different funds and are only interested in the money going into our bank account. BUT: after a number of snafus with that bank, we decided to liquidate the account. It took me a week to create a new password, get a written security code in the mail, and finally get logged on and changed the deposit to a different bank. Anyway, I did a happy dance after it all went through. Now, where’s my cape?
that is a big win! here is the cape. remember, cape does not allow user to fly. unless you truly are the “great american hero”.
You and your lovely wife are truly good people.
Try basmati rice. It has an even lower glycemic index than brown rice.
I’ve noticed a lot of new construction stores aren’t putting in self checkout kiosks. I read an article about it a few months back that showed some store with them were actually removing them for the reason that you cited. As for me, good riddance!
I got up early (actually had to set an alarm) and went to the oral surgeon this morning. Ten minutes into the appointment, the doctor told me that he wasn’t the one I needed to see.
[details=“Summary”]
Apparently, I have an epidermoid cyst, which will take a dermatologist to remove. No wonder the swelling wasn’t going down.
[/details].
So now to call to make sure the referral is in network. At least this one will be covered by medical insurance.
I did stop at Aldi for the few things that I couldn’t get / find at Joe V’s yesterday.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Well, crap! The summary function doesn’t seem to be working (or the operator isn’t working it correctly). Sorry for you sensitive folks.
I had to order a little more yarn so I’m at a crochet standstill for a bit. What to do, what to do? Maybe watch another movie from our long-forgotten DVD collection.
Yesterday, it was Dangerous Liaisons with Glenn Close, John Malkovic, Michele Pfeiffer, and (of all people) Keanu Reeves. It was released in 1988. I’ve seen it a number of times, but it’s been a while and I caught some things that I’d missed in the past. Glenn Close is so wonderfully devious and evil…
So I guess I’ll find something else to amuse myself.
I almost got Final Destination-ed again. I was walking by one of the industrial ice machines at work, and the front (steel) plate fell off and landed right by me. Looks like 200 Top Red is my permanant set now. Which makes my set neighbors happyy, because I’m not lazy so they don’t have to help pull like they did for the last guy. Of course, I got sent around to clean up 200 Bottom Green. Again. When I was doing damages there was a broken lightbulb in a tube, so I had to Google it to see if I could do it(LED or incandescent) or was it HazMat(Florescent). It was florescent. Of course that now the FBI agent watching me knows I Googled “gaylord20270”. Of course that agent is probably like my Guardian Angel at this point, out back behind a 7-11, chugging 40s of OE, and screaming at the dumpster. I did my Senior Day shopping, and came home. Spot was happy to see me, so he bit me.
About to hatch, and terrorize the village
Coppertone, glad you had a good Thursday, or at least a better one than Arthur Dent’s
So, are ya gonna be on Dr. Pimple Popper? Cause I love a good epidermoid cyst removal.
Class the joint up a bit.
Yeah, he got one of these from me. I didn’t push, but only because he would have had a bad attitude about it the whole time, and it’s just not worth the bother. I’m not surprised, but still disappointed.
Don’t do that!

Right now I’m half-listening to a customer risk and opportunity review board meeting; it started at 12:30 and isn’t scheduled to end until 4pm. Meh. My boss can’t make it, so another project manager and I are monitoring it for any new risks related to our part of the program. I’m glad the other ProjM is also on the call: I have another meeting at 3pm that I’d rather be in, so he’ll catch anything that comes up in the last hour of this one.
My new Atari 2600+ system was successfully delivered yesterday! Woot! But I didn’t get home until around 7pm, and by the time I ate dinner and watched the new episodes of Only Murders in the Building and High Potential I was tired; I didn’t even take it out of the box. I’ll set it up/try it out either tonight or tomorrow. I think Breakout will need to be the first game I play.
Yay!!
Excellent!
Nice effort, but absolutely nothing like the “how many x does it take to change a water-filled light bulb” format.
I’m looking forward to that, too!
It might be tough to balance Atari vs TV vs Lego for the next few days…
!
(also, what Taters said!)
That would explain the bruises.
About to yank on very thin pants (ye gawds, 80+ F is insane when the damn AC doesn’t work… oh, I didn’t about that?!? ) and hope to hell I don’t melt.
We’ll see about the “water fixture” and the shoddy AC in the lobby (where customers usually shake their shoulders and go, “Oh, it’s so cold in here!” “Lady, we have four roaring ovens back here. Grab an apron.”)
Oh, I forgot to mention; I dragged the bin to the road for the collection scheduled this morning and it was Not Collected.
I definitely wasn’t too late cos I actually dragged it down last night, seeing as it can stay on my driveway and not be in the way. They skipped next door as well.
In terms of MMPing, this is maybe of equal drama to Doggio’s near death experience.
In other other news, autumn has officially begun here; we have biiiig flocks of geese migrate from the even further north to overwinter in the area every year, and they started arriving today.
I’ve spent almost an hour on the phone with Xfinity. Not being on hold. Being ‘helped’.
Here’s the issue:
- I want to stop using my 30-year-old email address, and use a new gmail address.
- I get automated emails from Xfinity every month letting me know my statement is ready.
- I noticed that the email also goes to my wife’s email address.
One would think all I’d have to do is log in, remove my old email address, and ad the new gmail address. Only… When I log in, my wife’s email address is in the contact information. Since the automated emails go out to both of us, both addresses must be in Xfinity’s system somewhere.
I tried to add my new gmail address. Guess what? It replaced my wife’s address. Now her address isn’t visible.
I was asked for my PIN. It’s not what I thought it was. I was emailed my PIN, and it’s not a number either I or my wife would use. I was asked to log in using a different username. Huh? After a game of 20 Questions, I finally got this alternate name. Supposedly an email was sent so that I could change the password for that username. Didn’t get it.
In the end, I burned up all of my lunch hour and hung up. (I did say goodbye.) All I wanted to do is have these automated messages go to my new address and my wife’s address!
In other news, an elderly neighbour’s dog was barking for a long time. I finally went to check on her. She’s fine, and doesn’t know what got into her dogs. (I found out she has two dogs.) Anyway, she’s OK.
There is also brown basmati which is even better glycemically. That’s something I can actually eat more than a single forkful of without paying the blood sugar price. I can eat a small but still useful serving instead.
Only downside is you won’t find it at an ordinary supermarket, nor probably at a MomnPop South Asian grocery store. You sorta need the South Asian supermarkets that’re only found where there’s a big South Asian expat community. So for Flyboy that’d be Bellingham? Redmond?
You goofed and left a period here at the end. The [whatever] tags of any kind really need to be on a line by themselves with no leading or trailing characters or spaces.
Hooray for better insurance coverage of your mouth issue!!
Another happy bit is that a cyst like that isn’t much of an infection hazard, unlike some other sorts of abscesses in your mouth. So although you definitely want to solve it, the risk and urgency is lower.
If it turns out to be a dermoid cyst with hair or teeth in it, be sure to get and share pix.
@Johnny_L.A. Ah yes, Xfinity. I can recall some epic marathons on the phone w them about something that seemed trivial from our end.
I spent about 3 hours total on the phone last week dealing with my credit card compromise. One set of useless calls to both entities and then after my sanity recovered, one set of useful, eventually even successful, calls to both entities.
This morning was time to update the websites and apps which auto-charge me or that I use frequently. About 20, so not too bad. But even at 3 minutes each, that blew an hour, and many were a lot slower than that.
Got my haircut just a bit ago and am fillibustering a bit before planning my travel packing followed by doing it. I’ve got a standard travel checklist, so it’s just a matter of customizing that for the climate (mid 50s to upper 70s), the formality (nearly nil), and the duration (11 days). Then just grab the suitcase(s), and dump it all in.
Then healthy dinner and early bed for a 0530 wake-up.
