(Old) Waiting for an Update in the MMP

IIRC, the ortho office handled that for DH when he broke his leg. We did ask them for it, but they treated it as a totally routine everyday thing.

I suspect the Camaro my stepfather had when I was in high school, or the Mini Cooper I once rode in, would come very close to that. Our Dodge Dart could cope with a folded wheelchair. Barely. Getting the damn thing through the door was a major pain in the back.

I’ll give you that-I was thinking of my experience with vehicles the last 20 year. I suppose a two door coupe (I had a 2012 Honda Civic sport that was a 2 door coupe, it would have required more contortions). If an older person who might at some point develop a need for mobility device (hint: that’s all of us) buys a mini Cooper or a Camaro, they kind of brought it on themselves. That Civic sport coupe was fun while it lasted (totaled less than 3 weeks after I brought it home, parked outside my house-hadn’t even registered it yet. I still miss the sweet car some times).

I had a Kia Rio for years. I loaded many a client and their wheelchair into it.

I wouldn’t voluntarily own a vehicle with such limited cargo space. Learned that lesson decades ago.

What about a cane? You can get very stable ones that have 4 feet. That’s what Hubs used when he weaned himself off the walker.

Exactly. I have wondered what would happen if a negative answer were given.

Mom, is that you? (fish sticks and tater tots were a frequent Friday night sup growing up)

As they would sing on Sesame Street, “One of these things is not like the other ones”.

Better answer. Forgot about this option. When Hubs was having the extreme pain in his hips and knees last year, his doctor filled out the form then Hubs and daughter took it to Secretary of State and voila, he was issued a hang tag-goes on the rear view mirror when you park.

I asked our daughter if she had given Bella some suspect cheese this morning but as it turned out, she decided to take the early train tomorrow morning rather than the evening/late night arriving train tonight. So I suspect Bella got suspect cheese before she went to bed tonight.

I didn’t see anything weird about it, I thought it was just fine. What the heck did discourse think was the issue?
And I thoroughly enjoy your posts.

I have enjoyed working with children in a lot of different ways: catechism teacher, Sunday school for preschoolers teacher, Girl Scout leader, swimming lessons, synchronized swimming. The thing that is difficult about working with children is their parents and certainly not all of them, only a very small percentage. But that very small percentage can make you want to hand them your clipboard, whistle and take off your swimsuit on deck and hand it to them and say “if you think you can do it better, have at it!”

Well then be surprised at the Mitten Secretary of State. First ap for HC hangtag was rejected by Sec of State because it wasn’t hand signed by the doctor. And there is no on-line way to get one.

Agree! Hubs still likes going.

Made pot roast with the used meat that I purchased earlier in the week. Thoroughly enjoyed by Hubs; can’t believe how much he ate.

Let’s have coffee in a quiet place some day and I’ll tell you.

yup, the mitten state does make it trickier to get that permit. At least now you can print it from online, get the doc to sign and mail it in rather than have to take it to some office. I’m supposing Covid had something to do with that slight improvement.

I originally got mine from an ortho pod when I fell and shredded every tendon and ligament in one knee and I wasn’t a good candidate for surgical repair. 5 years later, when this ugly lung injury showed its nasty mug, my pulmonologist insisted I have one. I told him when it came time to renew mine, he could do that. My knee is all better (:fist:t2: on :wood:). In Nebraska you can have two hang tags, one for your vehicle, one for when you’re in some other vehicle? I’m thinking of turning in one of mine for HC plates on my car so I don’t have to always be fooling around hanging it on the rear view mirror when I park and then taking it off when I start moving. The worst is with a brain injury I too often forget to pull the permit out from the visor and hang it when I park in a HC spot. So far I haven’t gotten a $200 ticket but I don’t want to keep pressing my luck and it’s much harder to forget your plates fastened to your car front and back:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:.

Got a sudden downpour earlier, which helped incentivize a certain puddy-tat to get his black ass back in the house.

Was gonna swing by the dispo - I’ll get dangerously low on T.P. but joints are another matter entirely - but decided to wait till tomorrow, and see if I score any birthday treats.

There will at minimum be chocolate cake at work - Sweet Manager swung by with it today.

I know it’s silly, but it tickles my soul to have just a tiny fuss over me. I hate being the center of attention, but when one of my crew wished me a “Happy Early Birthday!” as I was leaving, it made me genuinely smile.

Tried some new-to-me cheese, and am extremely disappointed in it. Having a restorative cuppa of Earl Grey to wash the taste out.
Or course, using the nukulator triggers Mr. Black Cat to howl for gooshy-fud, and I relented tonight.

Ratties got dry (uncooked) oatmeal. Envy their lives!

Prepped some sirloin (a bath of Wershersher and some coarse salt) and in a bit, some onions will say “hello” to Mrs. Butter sworth and dinner will commence.

I’ll throw a shout-out for Honda Fits. You can fit - heh - an astonishing amount in them, and the back of the hatchback can hold a bike, a folded wheelchair or walker would be no big whup.

Honda Fits were my top pick a month ago when my Civic was totaled and I had to look for a replacement. Consumer Reports rates Fit very high for safety, reliability, longevity and gas mileage. Evidently that’s well known because there wasn’t a used Fit in my (pathetic) insurance settlement price range for a hundred miles in any direction. I’ve always liked the look of them and love that fun lime green color. Sigh, it was not to be.

I’m liking my runner up spiffy red Suburu Outback, which is also a hatchback. I really like the AWD and being a SUV crossover it sits me higher up, which is much easier to get in and out of than lower down Civic sedan. The height also gives me better driving sightlines. Lost the rear camera (oh, well) and 70,000 more miles but gained leather, powered HEATED seats. Come winter I’m going to love that. My granddaughter named my car Scarlet Redhead, after her favorite therapy dog at school. The therapy dogs are the only way we can get her to go to school-it’s pretty dispiriting being a cute little 6 year old girl with ADHD and autism. School is not an explicable or welcoming place. But she will get out of the car in the morning and go in because she has a job, to clean and refill the water bowls for Scarlet, the school’s full time therapy dog. I don’t blame her-Scarlet accepts her and treats her much better than the humans do. I’ll proudly call my hippy car Scarlet for that. I should see if I can get a photo of the dog Scarlett so I can make a magnet or decal for my car. One of you probably knows how to do that.

Thank you :people_hugging:

Nuts, isn’t it? The feds (well really the Sackler family and Purdue Pharma) have made it so incredibly cumbersome for doctors to prescribe pain meds for non-drug seeking people, even long established patients well known to them. So many doctors have just given up and stopped tryin to jump through those hoops and just tell people to use Tylenol or Motrin. Lots of people are suffering as a result and it’s causing moral injury to doctors who can’t use their knowledge and skills to help the people in front of them.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Now I’m craving homemade applesauce. With bourbon.

All that crap, just to save a couple of bucks vs. less addictive treatments.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 12c/53f with a predicted high of 18c/64f and cloudy. Weather app says “I’m completely fucking apathetic with this merely so-so day.” It’s Friday though, that counts for something around here!

Happy birthday, Shoe!

sari have you looked at alternatives to the walker, or some of those 4-footed canes? Mum had three different walkers at one point, one of them was quite light and only got used indoors, the other two were more substantial and went outdoors with her. I had a 2-door car at the time and had to do a bit of rearrangement to get the largest of the walkers into the back seat or the boot but it was possible. Then I upgraded to a larger 4-door and had much less trouble. She also managed very well with a cane until she was too frail for it and needed something to lean on.

I applied for a handicapped parking permit when she was alive too - I managed to do it online but it involved lots of form-filling, photos of her, her medication, some oxygen cylinders and other bits and pieces. It was accepted without question though, and came in very useful on the few trips we took outside as her cancer progressed.

It’s been a busy week over here, we had a 2hr scrutiny meeting for one of my depts yesterday but it went quite well and we only came out with a couple of things that we wanted to look at again. I’ve spent a fair amount of time checking some very specific results because our IT folks have given us a new button to press this year which should calculate things in a particular way but appears not to be working properly so some things are correct and some are not. I have a choice of four buttons for graduating students - sometimes I just push all four and see which one gives the best result!

Next week will be all about the Board of Examiners meetings as I have two that I need to be at, and one that I ought to be at but probably won’t attend all of. I have the dentist on Monday morning first thing, and a bunch of personal appointments to schedule which I’m leaving until all of this madness is over and we can breathe again!

I’ve had breakfast, I have a cup of tea to fortify myself before I get stuck in to my next batch of calculations. Onwards and upwards!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 93 and N.O.S. for the day. The big item on today’s agenda is to make chikin sallit. Yeah, my life is that excitatin’. There will also be quality cee-mint pond time to include the requisite sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’. Sup shall be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit.

And now this…

HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!

Oh look, its my cake day!
Up early. Cake and water- I have that every breakfast.
No clue what to do today. I will take suggestions.

I don’t know the origin for banoffee pie - I got it from an English girl who worked with Daughter as a YMCA counselor back in 2008. Personally, I don’t like it, but FCD and MIL do so I make it for them.

This morning, FCD will take me to Food Lion again so I can get diet coke and a bottle of distilled water and something else that I hope I remember… waffles! That’s it - easy breakfast for Roxy.

I don’t have Medicare B so I don’t have to deal with that wellness silliness. My Federal BC/BS covers semi-annual checks for meds and general health. They ask a few questions about depression and falls, but nothing obnoxious.

It’s also laundry day and MIL’s shower day. So, yeah, so much excitement!

Happy shoe day and happy Firday!

@Johnny_L.A
Pop the smoke detector out of its base and look at the back. If it says it is an ionization detector or if it has a radioactive symbol on it you have the wrong detector. Discard it and get a photoelectric detector for that space.

For the explanation please watch that short YouTube video I posted up thread. An ionization detector will not alert you to any kind of smouldering fire.

Happy Dopaversary!

@purplehorseshoe

Morning all. Have risen from bed and taken my medicine, now waiting a few more minutes until I can have food (the thyroid pill says take on an empty stomach, 30-60 minutes before breakfast). A little Firday shopping and swimming are on tap but nothing to energetic today. Temperatures are due to be in the mid-80’s today and tomorrow with nearly no chance of rain, so may get outdoors some.

A happy Hippo-Birdies-Two-Ewes Shoe. And happy doper anniversary, Coppertone.

SO onward into the morn. Have a good Firday all.

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 51 degrees Fahrenheit and clear outside. It’s supposed to be a sunny day with a high temperature of 79 degrees Fahrenheit. I will do my level best to take little breaks today and enjoy some of today’s lovely weather.

Happy Birthday, Shoe!

JtC, I hope the night was good and the last of your drive uneventful.

I took part of yesterday off. I took care of some stuff early in the morning and had a couple of meetings. I forgot I had promised to get back to someone yesterday on some travel money, but it’s not urgent.

Once again, my boss was late for our meeting, and yesterday, I did not have a good poker face. I have a thing about being on time for meetings. My boss called this meeting, not me, so it’s doubly irritating. I view it as a lack of respect for others’ time. I don’t mind one-offs, because stuff happens, but I do mind when it happens for every meeting. He knows this and was apologetic, but I would prefer the behavior changed.

Anyway, once I signed off, I went outside. I watered the posies on my front porch, weed-whacked the front and back yards, edged, used the blower to move stuff to the grass so the mower could pick that stuff up, mowed the lawn, used the give the birds fresh water in both the bird bath and hanging bird bath, final session with blower, then sprayed the pavers in my garden area, and the back porch down.

After that, I swept the kitchen floor and ran the roll-suck over the whole first floor of the house.

After doing all that, I had lunch. Then I went back outside and did some light weeding.

Long story short, I worked off some frustration and took care of chores that needed doing.

I have so much leave and comp time built up that the bosses are making noises about me burning some of it up. So, I burned approximately six hours yesterday, but two hours will be admin time. I fully plan to burn enough leave that I won’t exceed my carryover at the end of the year.

Today, it’s back to work, but it’s my short day. I need to get my car tabs renewed. I spaced and let them expire in May. I’m usually pretty good about that, but I’ve had other things on my mind. Anyway, I’ll use my lunch to get that done.

I better feed the pups before I begin my work day.

Yesterday, Roxy had a play date with a classmate (who she apparently intends to marry.) His family has a mini-farm, and when Daughter got Tobias and went to pick up Roxy, goats ensued!!

I’ve been to Food Lion - OMG, frozen fries are stoopit expensive there!! First load is in the washer, 3 more to go. I’ll be hanging the jeans and shirts on the line because it’s a gorgeous day.
