(Old) Water spots be us, our new MMP

I mentioned last month that I’d replaced my Paradise Found ‘Magnum P.I.’ shirt with a smaller size. The first one was 2XL, the last one was XL, and the current one is L. I ordered a couple of shirts from Hilo Hattie, and they came Tuesday. Based on my ‘Magnum’ shirt, I ordered Large. After I ordered, but before they arrived, I saw that my 30-year-old ( :astonished: ) Hilo Hattie shirt is a 2XL. It fits like my XL ‘Magnum’ shirt did. i.e., Hilo Hattie shirts seem to be a size smaller than Paradise Found shirts. Sure enough, I tried on one of the Large shirts and it was too tight. So my Big Accomplishment™ this afternoon was initiating a return and packing the shirts to be sent off tomorrow. (I’m exchanging for the same ones, only a size larger.)

Yay for Bailey! I just love it when older dogs get those bursts of energy and playfulness.

We’re getting them too.

My cat Figaro was an indoor kitteh who liked to escape sometimes. Unfortunately, she was allergic to fleas and always wound up with them when she went outside. Her brother Domino was a rescued orphan barn kitty and had absolutely no interest in the outside.

Once I email some financials to the new apartment manager, I’ll have a lease to sign. Then I can call the movers back and set a date.

I got some more kitchen stuff packed today. Tomorrow, I really need to take some stuff to Goodwill and the other desktop to Staples. There’s a lot of work ahead.

LSLGuy, it really boils down to, “We have only fear,” but that doesn’t sound as noble.

Hippie, My high school’s team was called the Indians. The town was named for a local Native American chief named Kikthewenund, which got Anglicized to Chief Anderson. Anyway, our only sports cheer referring vaguely to that heritage went like this:
Ooo sa sa, ooo sa sa, hit 'em in the head with an ooo sa sa!
Ooo sa sa, ooo sa sa, what the heck is an ooo sa sa?
Ooo sa sa, ooo sa sa, hit 'em in the gourd with a board!

I was in the class of 1967. As you might imagine, AHS is one of many schools who wrestled with the idea of changing the team name.

We went to Mishawaka today for my allergy shot and a stop at Coldstone Creamery for ice cream. I had a Chocolate Obsession sundae, and Mrs. Nott had a Key Lime Pie Shake.

Mrs. Nott’s solution for a drying rack was to get one of those big plastic 2’ x 4’ grates used for in-ceiling fluorescent lighting.

I once had a kitty named Figaro. I got him because he was initially adopted by a, let’s just say, a not great pet owner. He (the cat) climbed up onto the top of the fridge and managed to knock a wine bottle off, I wasn’t there, so I don’t know the exact details, but the wine bottle ended up breaking his tail. He had an abbreviated tail for the rest of his life. So me and my girlfriend decided that Figgie would be better off with us. The relationship lasted another few years, and then Figgie went with her on adventures.

Dammit, I should have married that girl. Never before or since have I found one better.

I am so sorry for you. I haven’t been catless since 1992, I don’t know if I could properly relax without having at least one of them hanging out with me.

Oh how scary! I’m so happy your story had a happy ending.

What a good guy, I’m sure she felt terrible, all of you love that cute lil dawg.

I always worry about the cats and recliners. Ours don’t have open flaps to allow them to get into the gears, but they could still get smooshed.

Thanks, we are pretty happy we didn’t have to go back to the agency we used when we first got here. They were not terrible reliable and didn’t really clean, they just made things look clean.

We know that Tara is looking for part time work, we are really hoping she will keep room in her schedule for us.

TIL! Thanks for an entertaining rabbit hole

That would require our cat to have more self-discipline than we do. We’ve already figured out that we’re gonna need a bigger plant.

That’s what happens when you go above and beyond. They pile more work on you. It’s good to be valued?

I know of several women who get scratchy throats after stitching with wool for any amount of time.

Happily I do not have that allergy. I have several very nice wool sweaters, one that was brought from Scotland for me. I look forward to winter just so I can wear them, I love the snuggly feeling.

That is wonderful news, congrats to him and his medical team. It couldn’t have been easy.

I know you heart just swelled with joy watching her. Hurry for a feeling good doggy!

Nice work station. I am jealous of your window, I never had one.

I’m concerned about the auras, I do hope that doesn’t mean that you are in for a nasty time with all of the migraine effects.

Most people are pretty numb by now. (I complain to management and make them change the music or shut it off, but I’m old and retired and have time for that nonsense.)

And now off with me. I just noticed the time and I haven’t talked to Mom yet today. TTYL

Yes, I have light blue eyes and always wear sunglasses outside.

When my folks got lift chairs, they sprayed bitter apple around them to avoid crushing their dogs.

Mexican for Date Night Thursday. Both of us are stuffed. (And I’m really feeling the margaritas for some reason.) I mentioned to Mi Esposa that I’ve been getting leg cramps at night. She insisted we go to the supermarket before dinner, and get some bananas. I’ve just had one. Stuffed as I am, and as loth as I am to consume carbohydrates, I had one. I know better than to argue.

It’s surprising how some people can’t chew gum and walk at the same time, or they can but are just pushing it.

Normally, sailing clubs wouldn’t use a Surfer Dude to be in charge, but he’s the only one with English.

There are always going through be needs for competent people, especially for volunteers. While I’m happy to help out, I am prepared to say no.

Actually, I did tell them a year ago that I wouldn’t be on the organizing committee but would be happy to help out during the show. I’m really glad I didn’t get more involved because I think I would have gotten too frustrated and would have likely taken on too much.

Anyway, emails and messages have stopped coming in so it’s all finished.

Free at last.

Sister-in-law is up from Taiwan to visit and we are going around Osaka together. SIL stayed with us for a year when our first (Pough chan, for those who remember) was born and passed, and I really like her.

SenWife got tickets to some of the pavilions for this evening. I was too busy to get involved with that and met her handle it, so it will be a surprise on what we will see.

I knew it was going to be a shitstorm from a year and a half ago, and I knew that the Race Committee Chair could do his job successfully, but needed support for the English.

I really wanted SenBoy to be able to participate in the World Championships twice, once in Italy last year and then this.

20 months ago, I promised the Chair I would do my absolute best to help during the event. He had me help during the Nationals and All Japan events to learn the ropes, and I helped out on another couple of other races as well.

Most importantly, the races part of the Championship went off smoothly and my son could compete, make friends and further developed his love for sailing.

Up from naptime, having a Royal Hawaiian, and teriyaki stirfry chicken.

Good evening all. Missed the afternoon window as i actually was busy, so will try to catch up with all the activity in a bit.

Went car shopping and the results were…mixed, nay, asymmetrical. The Toyota dealership did not have any models of the car I’m interested in, but I got helped right off and they will try to have one for me to examine/test drive in a couple of days. The Hyundai dealership did have several cars of the type I want and at reasonable prices, but no one came out to help and when I went inside (ostensibly to check the information comparing the different model types) I was pretty much ignored (and I even had a clean shirt and dress slacks on!). So if Toyota comes though they will probably get my business, the pricing and equipment are about the same. Now thinking about visiting Carmax and see what they might offer for my Dodge…has anyone ever done that, sell a car direct to Carmax?

Then onto the gym where sweating occurred and while undressing to shower I was caught by The Talking Man. He’s a 70-some dude in great shape, spends lots of time in the gym, but he likes to talk…all the time and to anyone who crosses his path. He noticed a paperback I read while on the stationary bikes, so started to tell me about all the books at the local thrift store and what a bargain they are and what he picked up there and…meanwhile I’m nodding and adding a word or two when I can, standing buck naked and wanting to get to the shower stalls. I tried taking a couple of steps towards the showers and he paced right along with me, still talking. He finally wound down enough that I could escape, but from the shower I could hear him bending another poor soul’s ear (he also talks quite loudly). I managed to dress and get out of the gym without further conversation.

So that made the evening quiet rather…nice. Have finished the Firday Shopping list and either clipped or downloaded my coupons, so have that to look forward to tomorrow.

33 messages to scroll and they won’t get scrolled with me just sitting here, so…

FCM, I saw that settlement too, real neat all the cultures that lived there at various times. And I bet the ponies you saw were brown (they were when I visited). Sorry you didn’t get to see Puffins, but the place we went to observe them would have been lots of walking and climbing and that probably wouldn’t have been good for either of you. And like you I found a little Fish and Chips shop (they had hamburgers) that was quite good.

As for the baggage tags FUBAR, I suspect there we be a sizable line at Guest Services tomorrow, so be ready for it,.

boo fae, that is great news about your friend, hope the minion trouble abates.

Taters, best wishes for the new Dyson, I just can’t pull the trigger on something that expensive which I use so infrequently, but you probably do a better job keeping house (and with a dog to help create messes) than I.

I don’t think I have a single 100% wool garment in my entire closet.

Oopsie, yay! for Bailey still having some of that old gusto. And yeah, I try never to drive in D.C., the Metro usually gets me close to where I am going (do wish the stop to the National Zoo was a bit closer…). And that is a work station I would have dreamed about in my GS-13 days (but never came close too).

Nellie, interested to see if the weather and walking had a part in the aura effect. Be well. And hey, Christmas is only 154 days away…just around the corner!!

Pilot, just go out and enjoy yourself and tell us all about it when you get back.

Rilchiam, I think things will work out, and I doubt she will be more impressed with Gutfeld than I am (andI am not impressed at all–YMMV).

BBBoo, glad Moxie figured out the great outdoors ain’t all that great if you’re a 10lb house feline…

lily, Ah, the mysteries of airline reservations…keep an eye on it.

flyboy, I’ve gone from 2XL to XL and probably can get into a L now, just not ready to commit to it yet.

red, hope everything comes together for you.

Knots, now you have me wanting ice cream.

I know that feeling.

Sensei, enjoy your time in Osaka. Japan is one mystery I have never been to or explored (India is another). Hopefully that can be corrected in the next 10-20 years…

And just looked at the clock and it is nearly 9pm, so this will double as my late night final. Need to get some carrots to munch on as I have had my daily dose of stuff that is bad for me already. So take care and I’ll catch up tomorrow.

Especially with a nurse.

Is this stuff being shipped from HD or is it stuff that someone else is shipping using cartons purchased there? Given that I have purchased moving boxes on the secondary market, there are a few HD among them. While they are OK for a household move, I wouldn’t pack machinery in them.

The older I get, the less patience I have with folks like that. While not rude, once I get my fill, I just tell them *gotta run *. They get used to it.

OMG!!! Why didn’t you say anything here? We all would have helped you stress and fret until we were in a group tizzy.

I’m so happy she got home safe, bad things happen to silly inside cats who go out.

Back when Hubs and I first got together, I came with one of those old platform waterbeds and we put our drawers in the under bed drawers.

We also often used our feet to close the drawers.

At that time, I worked a half a mile away so could come home for lunch. When I got home, Hub’s meezer didn’t come and beg for scritches and lunch meat. I looked for him and couldn’t find him anywhere and called my boss and told her I couldn’t come back because of a sudden family crisis.

Then I searched the rather small apartment again, looking in all of the cabinets and closets. I got my neighbor to help me search around the back of the apartments where the landlord ignored the weeds.

When not-yet Hubs got home I was in tears, I just knew that I had let his favorite (not really) out to get run over in downtown traffic.

Bubba heard Dad’s voice and knew that it was dinner time so started rattling around in my underware drawer where he had been happily curled up under the waterbed heater.

I was just fine until your had to bring it up again. Happily I still have almost a full pint of B&J in the kitchen freezer.

Hubs says they are so slow the cats won’t get smooshed, but we’ve had cats that stop and roll over on their back right in front of our feet while we are walking. We’ve had some very not smart cats over the years. GG is a stop and roll cat who hasn’t learned that we will sometimes have to step on him.

I have also been getting leg and feet cramps at night. I do not like eating bananas, so I’ve started taking potassium supplements. My doctor and I discussed it today, he says my blood work is all good and suggested I try drinking Gatoraide to see if the electrolytes help. He’s also said that he can tell that I drink because my sodium levels are always low and I should probably cut that back as well. Tomorrow I will go to town and buy some Gatoraide.

Dinner tonight was corned beef hash, pan poached eggs (heat your pan and add a little fat. when the fat is shimmering, add the eggs and then add a few tablespoons of water. Cover with a glass lid and watch until the whites look solid. Shake the pan to get the right amount of wobble-everyone is different, then scoop out with a slotted spatula and let drain for a few seconds before plating) and home fries. All with extra salt on my plate, not his.

And this is the most important part. You are a great dad, even if you do look at your daughter once in a while. (she will remember and appreciate later. I’d give an awful lot for Dad to smile at me and call me Honey just once again.)

Dad was a forward observer in the USMC during Korea. That means he was on the front lines calling in fire during combat. He died on his birthday which was also the anniversary of the forgotten war’s official end.

As to me, besides seeing the doctor to get my quarterly fluid check, he told me that it is time to get my boobs squished. The scheduling nurse said she was going to send me to a different county (small state with a WHOLE lot of counties) because they have some sort of three-d imaging that doesn’t involve boob squishing. This is the first mamo I’ve ever looked forward to, I want to see just how that works in person.

I’ve been stitching right along, I’m loving my new eyes and cute glasses. I’m still laughing/crying at myself over the color mistakes I have in the pieces I was working in the before days, but now that I can really see the difference between white, blue and yellow, frogging it (ripit, ripit, ripit) won’t be nearly as much of a pain.

It’s a whole different world. I don’t dread them any more, after 30 years of dread, angst and procrastination. Still the awkward poses and breath-holding, but it no longer hurts. Boring is soooo much better than torture. Plus you now know before you leave the facility whether you’ll need to come back for anything questionable instead of waiting days to know. No rules against better living through chemistry before it either. Then plan on a nice lunch afterwards.

SenWife had work today, SIL and SenBoy went off shopping and doing whatever. SenGirl and I found a really good okonomiyaki restaurant for lunch.

After passing on traditional sightseeing activities such as the Osaka Castle (which Ive already seen, and not impressed with) she decided shopping was to be the major activity for today.

As it’s 34C, 93 Merrican, it didn’t take much to convince me to stay inside.

We will go to the World Expo tonight

We’re flying on BritishAir, but the reservations were made on AA. I don’t know if AA or BA changed our seats, but BA fixed it, so I’ll blame AA for messing it up!

As to indoor cats sneaking out, Taz did it a few times. He’d go about 20 or 30 feet, the hunker down and yowl. I’d go pick him up and take him back inside.

And may I add that I’ll be so glad to have my computer back… posting from my tablet is, well, challenging and aggravating more often than not.

MetalMouse - only 600 of us are debarking in Dover - the rest leave in Rotterdam, so a small chance for a crowd needing help… I hope. Heck, by the time you see this, I may be done with them (time zone, yanno.)

Sorry for 2 posts in a row, but sometimes the tablet posts before I’m done. Anyway, I woke at 6 and it’s just past 7. After I shower and eat, I’ll hit guest services and straighten this mess out. Then we’ll finish packing as much as we can. Our bags need to be in the hall before midnight, so we can include today’s dirties before zipping everything up. We’re both ready for our own bed.

Happy Firday!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. Today starts 6 days of 99+ degree temps in a row.

Both. People buy their crappy boxes to ship stuff, and if you order from them they use them to fail to ship it to you.

Only in Florida

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 17c/63f with a predicted high of 23c/74f and sunny. Weather app says “Well, fuck me sideways. The fucking sun is out!” Yes, back to sun after a couple of overcast days.

We binned our Dyson for a G-Tech Shark instead. Dyson is a brexiteer and therefore he gets no more money from us. The vacuum wasn’t that great anyway, and the Shark does a much better job of picking up cat hair so it’s a win-win for us!

Very true, and it’s heartening to hear that Bailey is having some fun with you. Whatever you’re doing for her, it’s obviously right.

Pilot have a great trip!

How exciting! I hope the move goes smoothly and everything arrives when it should, and all in one piece.

We’ve been on a few codeshare flights which we booked with BA, and there were often some glitches with that. Strangely enough, AA always got the blame for those

Nothing much to report from over here. Yesterday was a busy day and I was glad to log off in the afternoon. I made campus food for today, put some dye on my hair as the purple’s fading towards a strange pink-ish hue and that’s a sign to refresh the colour, and sorted out the laundry that’s now dry. I had a bit of sofa time with alternate visits from Blossom and Cherry, and gave all the cats some treats at bedtime.

Today I’m on campus and hoping for a quiet day. We have two of us in the office all day, and two others who will be in and out as they’re on an interview panel all day elsewhere in the building. I have a few bits and pieces that I’d like to get finished (or handed over to someone else) before I go home as I’m on leave next week.

Tonight I need to pick up 'im indoors from the station at some point, so I moved my car off the drive and left it on the street so that I can avoid any traffic hassles later. I have a list of things that I need to do before we leave tomorrow afternoon (flight to Germany from our “local” airport instead of London), the most important one will be ensuring we have sufficient food and litter for the cats as the catsitter will be taking care of them.
