fachverwirrt, I feel your pain.
I recommend sitting tight for a few weeks. Maybe a new cat will come your way…

I’m very sorry. We lost two cats within a year, and haven’t had pets since. It’s crummy when my wife is away.
Ouch my friend! Hugs.
Hope your sister finds a way out of her trap.
There will be a divorce. The question is how hard he wants to make it. I suspect he’ll make it hard.
Wednesday, and I didn’t plan anything for dinner. So I went to the ol’ fallback, Trader Joe’s Salmon Pinwheels. Normally, I’d preheat the oven to 400ºF and bake them for 22 minutes. [NB: The link has a shorter cooking time at a lower temperature. But the way I do it has never failed.] Tonight I put them into an un-preheated toaster oven for 25 minutes. Quite nice. One of Wifey, RN’s patients gave her some yellow squash, so I steamed one for the side dish. Can’t go wrong with TJ’s salmon pinwheels and steamed yellow squash.
My GF is in the center of that maelstrom now.
Hugs to you both. Truly it gets dark before the dawn. But dawn comes.
I’m so sorry. Hugs to you and your wife.
Evening all. Exercise while watching women’s soccer was fun, the game went to overtime so a few extra calories were sweated off, then came home to Cheeburger time with some applesauce for dessert, so belly is happy with me again. No rain appeared but the heat is still around (87F as we close in on 8pm). Will probably head off to slumberland early; since I have been exercising I find I don’t nap as much in the afternoon as I used to, but it does get me to bed at a decent hour.
And time for the scrolling part of our program…
How about a T-shirt? Funny Cookie T-shirt, Raisin Cookies Trust Issues-CL – Colamaga
Taters, you are being more than patient with the roofers, hopefully they will get their act together and have people out when they promise to.
H.E.B. has a good reputation, maybe they will have fried chicken. And sounds like things are really coming together for the move. May Murphy not be found near your environs…
FCM, Lerwick was one of my stops on my cruise, hope you get to pet some Shetland ponies and see some Puffins.
Had to google what a Hartz Latex Pig was, but could imagine the reaction. Thanks for the giggles.
nellie, hope the light is fixed by now.
Allow me to add my thanks for a genuine laugh at that.
Oopsie, glad work is harmonious, hope it stays that way.
swampy, no storms here, but I can remember as a very young kid sitting on the porch and watching the lightning in the distance and listen to the angels bowling (at least that’s what Dad and Mom said…).
Pilot, have a fun trip.
VanGo, yay! for the successful prototypes. Anything that can hold kid’s attention more the 30 seconds is pretty neat.
JtC, glad you were able to help someone out while getting a good benefit from it. And GG and catnip is like me and potato chips…but I promise I will never lick your fingers…
fachverwirrt (forgot your Mumper name already), glad you had a good trip but {{hugs}} for Mona heading off to the Rainbow Bridge. And best wishes for your sister getting disentangled from asshole husband without too much hassle.
And it’s after 8pm and I need to do some more internettin’ before dreamland takes over. Have a good night/morning all.
Up from naptime. Watching Chopped. Dinner tonight is French style chicken, wild rice blend, with 'shrooms and green beans. And a martini.
Well, Spot’s pronouns are god/god. Hope that helps
I like that both live action Lurches both also starred on Star Trek.
Dwell time, and knowledge absorption? You rock!

Safe travels, Pilot!
What about wool in skeins? I suppose there is wool online here in the US, and I know a good source for alpaca.
I don’t make wool items for the same reason - if it requires special care, I’m not interested. I’ve ruined things in the past, so I’m over it. Same reason I refuse to own “Dry Clean Only” items.
Time to get up for our day in Shetland. More later. Happy Thursday!
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 75 Amurrkin out and mostly clear with a predicted high of 89 with rain this mornin’ and cloudy this afternoon. I shall take care of candle duty this mornin’. OYKW wants to go to the not too shabby Chinese hog trough buffet place for lunch. We haven’t been in a while so it will be a treat, and take care of today’s main need to feed. As is our wont, we shall be RDOS the rest of the day.
Rocker I doubt OYKW is a Munsters fan. I’m not real big on ‘em either. I am team Addams Family all the way.
Pilot safe travels and have fun!
red ouchie! Hope the dentist gets you fixed up today.
JtC will GG need catnip rehab!
{{{Fachverwirrt}}} so sorry for the loss of your fur baby!
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.
Happy Thursday Y’all!
It’s the next day after the races. I can’t believe how tired I got.
The organization is divided between the Race Committee which handles everything concerning the races themselves. Then there’s the Other Group which is supposed to take care of the zillions of details of everything else involved with having 100 competitors from a dozen countries come together to decide world champions.
The Point Guy for the Other Group is a surfer dude’ish bro who never met a beer that didn’t have his name on it. His work philosophy appears to not include actually reading messages because they may inconvenience him.
One cannot wonder why the decision was to place a person who doesn’t check messages or answers phones in charge of a project involving a zillion details but that’s above my pay grade.
I started off simply as the translator for the race committee chair, but my duties kept expanding as people discovered I actually get stuff done.
I was still getting messages today asking for me to confirm this and that, despite it being Surfer Dude’s job. It was so frustrating dealing with him for this week.
For example, We used a GPS tracking system for each boat and race mark, so $20k to $30k worth of equipment.
Naturally, everyone is really interested to know if it’s on the way to Italy for the next scheduled race but Surfer Dude can’t be bothered to look at his messages. So, I get more things to do.
They are trying to rope me into race management.
At the marina, there is a wakeboard system on cables. SenBoy and SenGirl went with a bunch of other sailors and had a blast. They really enjoyed it. I haven’t seen SenGirl look that excited for a while.
We moved to an Airbnb for a couple of days of touristing. I’d rather just zone out but the Power That Be has places to be and food the be eaten.
I like the look of wool, and would willingly undertake the chore of wool care, but I can’t wear it. It itches me to death! Even cashmere does. So no wool for me.
I was having trouble processing my jars of homemade jam in my largest cooking pot because I couldn’t find a rack that fit well and the jars were a very tight fit. After dithering about spending the money on a one-use item, I finally bit the bullet and bought a canning pot. It’s both broad and tall and has a custom-fitted rack. I even added a jar-lifter to the purchase because a tongs wasn’t doing a good job.
So beware, blackberries - you’re the next jam to be made, maybe tomorrow.

First I’d like to say that everyone is ok. Then I’d like to tell you the full story of yesterday afternoon’s adventures.
I spent most of the day continuing to wreak havoc around the house trying to figure out where my primary ‘office’ location will be once I start working. The ideal local should be upstairs where there’s extra space, good lighting, peace and quiet, etc. Unfortunately since my knee is unpredictable and we have no elevator nor the ability to fly, I am looking for somewhere downstairs that gives everyone enough privacy.
Since I knew that I was going to be loud, I gave Annie one of her chill pills. Even with the pill, Annie was hiding out, mostly in my mom’s bedroom.I didn’t blame her as I was carrying lots of things and it seemed like I was dropping about half of them.
I had setup a meeting to drop off all of my donations in the afternoon. The one container was very heavy and so I loaded everything into my cart and pulled it down the ramp. Possible TMI ahead:
The pants that I was wearing didn’t have any pockets, so I had tucked my phone into my bra. I stopped on the way down the ramp to take it out and take a picture of something. I loaded the car and was going to jump in and take off when I noticed that there was melted chocolate on the side of my phone. As it turns out, I had been eating about a spoonful of miniature chocolate chips earlier in the day and apparently one of them had fallen in my bra. I went back inside and changed clothes, cleaned my phone, and decided that I really was too early (even for me!)
I sat down in the living room and playing some games or something. I was surprised that Annie didn’t come to join me. But since it had been a rough morning, I figured that she was hiding in my mom’s room where she often goes. She has a bed of her own in there.
I went and delivered the stuff and came back. No one came to greet me. I went in my mom’s room and only my mom was there. Shit got real at that point. I walked around the whole house and called her name and looked for her. I didn’t think that she’d followed me out because we have two doors between the kitchen and the ramp and I always make sure to close the inner one so she can’t get through.
I can’t tell you the last time I was that distraught. My mom came in and looked around and then raised up the foot of her recliner. THANK GOD Annie emerged from beneath the chair without a scratch on her. She didn’t even seem to be upset. I’m so glad that she had been given the pill earlier in the day or I’m sure it would have been a completely different outcome.
After that the rest of the evening was one big cuddle fest. I sat here until my bladder was screaming at me because she was sound asleep and I didn’t want to put her down. The one who fared the worst was my mom. She felt absolutely terrible for having done that. Out of everything, I have to say that I was completely impressed with the way that MusicMan handled my mom. He was so sweet and caring and did his best to comfort her.
So, this morning, we’re back to normal (whatever that is) and getting ready to attempt to be productive.
Morning all. Up about 6am for bladder alert and just stayed up, having the sun rise at 5:50am and my bedroom windows facing east is not conducive to sleeping in, and will break fast here in a little bit. Another day with not much on the agenda, need to get my Firday shopping list ready and maybe drop by the Toyota dealer to look at cars, but otherwise not much doing. 77F now and heading to 94F with no chance of rain, so considering watering the lawn, since there is no good chance of rain until the end of the month.
Sticky Buns, I (and most of us) have had those days where we know something is in the house but have no idea where, but a beloved pet…I am so happy that this story had a happy ending.
Sensei, that is the Curse of the Compentent, you often get roped into doing extra stuff because, well, you’re competent and a lot of folks…are not. Do what you feel you are comfortable with–no more, no less.
lucky, happy jammin’ and cannin’.
And time for my Big Bowl O’Cereal and an Apple. Take care all and have a good one.
i’m so sorry. poor mona.
2008 was like that for me, 2 cats passed, and 2 cats appeared. nod passed in jan, and i found koritza on the street in april. lager was given to me in a beer box on the street, and malenka passed 2 weeks later.
sticks and scones, that was scary.
Back from our excursion. The original plan was to wander around town a bit, but FCD was worn out. Not sure how much was due to not using his cane, but it wasn’t worth the argument.
Anyway, back to the beginning of the day. We had a quick breakfast then went thru the customs procedure, which was really quick. We were herded into the theater where there were a couple of immigration folkses who compared our faces to our passports, then we got a sticker on our room card. After that, we waited for our turn to board the tenders which took us to the Victoria Pier where out buses awaited.
Our excursion was to the Jarlshof Prehistoric and Norse Settlement at the south end of the island. We toured the site of archeological finds that were uncovered by a storm in the 1890s. Ruins are from the Iron Age, the Bronze Age, up thru the 1600s, including some Viking ruins. Google it - fascinating place! And we saw a trio of Shetland ponies when we were there.
We also made a couple of stops along the way, and our guide, a native Shetlander, was really great! She even pointed out a couple of locations from the Shetland series! And she brought along visual aids that she passed thru the bus - like a hunk of peat and a sample of shorn wool. Definitely the best guide of the whole cruise.
As we moseyed along Commercial Street, we saw a drug store where we eventually found the ibuprofen. It was in the corner of the store where half a dozen other people were looking for other things, blocking the shelf we needed. But we managed to get what we wanted. Then we found a little restaurant where we had some amazingly good fish and chips. Little being the key word - maybe a dozen tables. We both got stuffded.
After, we started walking around, but it was too much for FCD so we caught a tender back to the ship which brings us back to our room. And our cruise is now all but ended. Tomorrow is a sea day - time to finish packing.
Oh, and my back pain is just about gone. I can’t twist, but it’s no longer agony to bend a little. So huzzah! Now I’m ready to be home.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 20c/68f with a predicted high of 21c/69f and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s nice outside, if you like overcast fucking nonsense. If you don’t, you’re fucked.” Good job I like it then!
I don’t seem to suffer from the micromanager problem, must be the look they get from me that suggests they go and micromanage elsewhere
You certainly can, and I fully support your choice!
That is just so sad to read. I am sorry you lost your long-time companion but you made the best decision for her. I am sure the Cat Distribution System will send replacements when you’re ready for them.
Sticky Buns I’m glad your story had a happy ending, and I am also glad Annie didn’t seem too traumatised by it.
Over here, it’s all quiet on the Western Front I had a nice evening out with friends yesterday and got some good news that one of them is now five years cancer free and finally discharged by his cancer doc. He’s still waiting for a hernia repair operation but that was definitely good news.
Today I had a bonus working from home day which was nice, I had a meeting with my troublesome minion this morning and then a meeting with my line manager (which was mostly discussing the meeting with my minion) so that has made a bit of progress. It’s a difficult issue that will come up time and again, and which has no real solution, so something we have to learn to manage instead.
I have a few little jobs to get through this afternoon, then I need to prepare campus food for tomorrow, sort out the laundry, and put some colour on my hair. I have no reason to venture outside the house today, so I will not. Or perhaps I will, if I have to empty a bin.
