It maybe late for some or early for others. Still, if you’re hoping to vacation this summer, have you started or completed plans? Or opted for a staycation?
If you go, bring me a souvenir!
Happy Moanday!!

Happy Moanday!!
Our summer holiday is already booked. We’re going to drive across the south of France, and then spend two weeks exploring Brittany and Normandy. It’ll be our first time in the area.
The highlight, I think, will be an overnight stay in a converted medieval hotel on Mont-Saint-Michel. (I don’t mean on the mainland. The hotel is on the actual site.) I hope the kids appreciate the unique opportunity.
That is very cool! I hope you have a great time!
I’ve mentioned a few thousand times that we’re doing a 4-week cruise out of Dover encompassing Norway, Iceland, Greenland, and a couple if islands north of England. And just yesterday, FCD asked if we could have taken a cruise there instead of flying. Well, yeah, we could have if he’d mentioned that when I booked everything in January. Maybe next time…
Meanwhile, on the home front, we’ve got several soggy days ahead, starting this afternoon. If I get motivated, I’ll take the weedwhacker and finish what I neglected yesterday due to lack of energy and drive. It shouldn’t take long, and the fresh air will do me good. Beyond that, no plans yet for the day. Maybe some roll-suckage?
Mornin’ all. Gray and rainy here. But warm & lush: 75/24.
GF and I had a micro-staycation on Sat night / Sun morning down at the beach in Ft. Lauderdale.
GF and I have a staycation at my place planned for the first weekish in June. Exact dates TBD but expected to be 5-7 days long. The centerpiece / highlight will be a Shakira concert held in the local NFL stadium on June 6. Ought to be quite the experience / spectacle.
Probably going to do some more actual traveling either solo or with her soon. Traveling is not an activity that takes much planning the way I/we do it.
Otherwise, my life is mostly a blur of RDOS sloth & chasing / catching GF.
That’s my week and now you’re up to date.
I suppose Brexit makes it difficult for you to also visit St Michael’s Mount while you’re in the area…
We’re supposed to go up for a few days to the wife’s niece’s husband’s sister’s (try sorting that out before coffee) cabin in Wisconsin next month. My daughter is going to cat-sit. The loss of our RV has been a huge blow to our travel ambitions, and we’ve not gone anywhere for the past two years. We have zero desire to get on a plane, but have kicked around the notion of an RV rental at some point. The logistics of any of it exhausts my brain.
Indeed, but we’ll wave hello to the UK while we’re in Cherbourg.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up, caffeinated, and purtified, so no YAWN. ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and mostly N.O.S. with a predicted high of 81 and rainy later this afternoon. We shall see. The big item on today’s agenda is to pig out at the newish Asian buffet place around elevenish a.m. The food is pretty good and has a large variety of stuff. I am excitated cause I can get sushi which I hardly ever get to eat cause it squicks out OYKW. He will survive seein’ me chow down as there’s plenty of other stuff to his likin’. The rest of the day will be spent in RDOS inactivities as is our wont.
We have no travel plans as neither of us is big on travel. Both of us traveled a good bit durin’ our irk lives, so the desire to do so now doesn’t appeal. Besides we have the cee-mint pond which we enjoy immensely.
Happy Moanday Y’all!
Morning, Mumperfolks! I’m up and moving about, but not caffeinated, and I’m feeling growfy about that. I’m scheduled for a CT scan of my heart at 1:00 pm, as a follow-up to getting a Watchman implant a while back. So, no caffeine for 12 hours prior. No solid food 4 hours prior, so at least I got to eat breakfast. I’m sleeeepy. I nodded off twice during that paragraph
I’ll head on up to the family reunion, as usual. While Dad is still with us, most of my vacations are planned around going to see him.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasting and will do KP after. Not a whole lot slated for this rainy day, so I’ll mess around in the studio.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Good morning, everyone.
It’s 49°F and damp outside. The morning will consist of off-and-on rain showers, which will change to mostly cloudy skies by afternoon. The high temperature will be 63°F. Not exactly lovely weather, but I don’t mind a little rain.
I don’t have set-in-stone travel plans. I hope to go a few places this summer, but we’ll see how things go. I want to take an epic road trip, but I’m not sure the husband will be up for that. I wouldn’t mind taking a solo vacation for a week or so, but if I did that, I think my husband would be hurt. I got used to being on the road alone and liked it. I could eat (or not), drive as far or long as I wanted, and stop when I wanted. I didn’t feel rushed either.
Laundry is on the agenda today, along with some adulting and errands.
That’s pretty much it.
It’s time for more coffee. I worry about being able to find good coffee at a reasonable-ish price, too, because I love the stuff. I think I’m going to trek up to one of my favorite roasters and get a couple of bags, at least.
On with the day!
No vacation plans. I would love to travel, but money, unsoundness, and lack of a cat sitter deter me. Plus no way am I getting on an airplane. There needs to be a Chunnel between New York and London.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 23c/73f with a predicted high of 24c/75f and partly cloudy. Weather app says “This fucking boring weather can bite me.” Oh, it’s not that boring, just dry and sunny and too hot for me!
Normally we would have an extensive travel plan to visit the US, we still had intentions to visit Grand Teton, Yellowstone and Monument Valley (not all in one go, obviously). You all know what that’s been shelved for the foreseeable future…besides, I would 100% get stopped at the border and end up spending my summer in El Salvador based solely on what I have posted on social media
We’ve had a few weekend trips away for music festivals, and still have quite a bit to look forward to but we hadn’t got any solid holiday plans until July. The beginning of July is a 3-day music festival in Oldham (Lancashire), then we have a 4-day long weekend trip to Antwerp because we like it there, then a 4-day trip to Kent for a music festival, and finally at the end of July we’re going to Germany for a week. We booked flights in and out of Frankfurt, and we will still have two journeys left on our Interrail tickets so we are thinking possibly travelling on to Munich and/or Berlin.
I have adulted today - took 'im indoors to the station this morning, irked for a few hours then went to do the grocery shopping at lunchtime. I’m back, everyone’s had food, and I have stuff to be doing this afternoon. Our new team leader started today but she has spent most of her time in onboarding meetings so she’s not had time for anything else. I’ll meet her in person on Wednesday when I’m back on campus again.
Morning all. Bright and N.O.S. this morning, but rain is predicted for the afternoon, so we’ll see. Have a small shopping list and a Jersey Mike’s stop, need to get some gas in the care and may visit the Hyundai and/or Toyota dealerships to look around (and hopefully not be to entrapped by the salesfolks). Swim and Weights and (hopefully) soccer practice later, followed by the usual sloth after dinner.
Just to give a little back history, B.S.D. (Before Straight Dope) I posted almost exclusively at the James Randi Message Board and attended most of The Amazing Meetings (TAM: The Amazing Meeting - Wikipedia) where I met and became friends with a group of folks, one of which is a Travel Agent who has arranged group trips for us all over the world–it is thanks to him the I have seen the Galapagos, Jerusalem, Istanbul, the Panama Canal, and many other places. Second half of June will be a cruise from Southampton to the Shetland Islands, Norway, and Belgium (only 7 days, not the monster trip FCM is taking) while also spending several days in England (you can spend months there if you could afford too). So that will get me close to the 4th of July and might do a week-long excursion somewhere in the US of A before youth soccer starts up in August again.
Cervaise, that is a lovely picture and I need to think about seeing France/Germany one of these days, have hardly touched them.
Cookie, I’ve heard of distant relations, but that one is out in the Oort Cloud…but enjoy it.
Swampy, I am with OYKW on this, raw fish just doesn’t sound good to me, no matter how it is presented (to be honest, I am no fan of cooked fish either).
Knots, hope the Scan shows everything working and not requiring warranty repair…
Taters,
Been awhile since I did that, most of my ‘car’ trips were flying/AMtracking somewhere and then renting a car to wander about. Haven’t done that for a few years now, may have to look around (never been to Monument Valley country…hmmmm).
Here’s an old SF novel I enjoyed back in College (said it was old) on that topic: Tunnel Through the Deeps - Wikipedia
boo fae, I suspect a lot of places in the US are going to be hurting some from the lack of overseas visitors. Such is life. And you have your music and countries nearby, so enjoy.
And time for the morning banana, then onward into the day. Take care all.
Good morning!
Well, I survived the night of APAP. In fact, I wore it for 8 hours. I’m still working on not freaking out over getting tethered, but the machine is no longer blasting me with strong shots of air, and it’s now recording my use, so I guess it learned its lesson.
Today I’m heading out to make protest signs.
My only travel plans are the annual tript to Chicago and Michigan to see family. I’m excited for my kids to go this year. I’m still concerned about my sister-in-law blowing up. My kids are talking about staying in a hotel to avoid that possibility, but I think my brother would be upset. It’s family tradition that we stay under one roof, and we do get more time together that way.
I think so, too.
wetone, I hear you about planes. The air traffic controller situation is pretty scary. What a stupid area to cut jobs.
During the time it took for us to type and read…a child in Gaza died of starvation and dehydration.
Pro-life shouldn’t only be anti-abortion, it should also include caring for the living children. Food stamps and medicaid are pro-life as well, or they certainly should be.
So, as you all know, I’m getting my eyes fixed this summer and my entire world is going to change for the better. I’ll be able to stitch and drive and see inside drawers again. Plus, it will save on our electric bill when I am able to stop turning five different light sources just to be able to read a recipe during the day.
I’m hoping to make the drive to Boise in the fall. I did get my Real ID after moving here so I could fly out to see Mom, but now I’m not nearly as happy with the idea of flying as before. Plus, I like driving long distance by myself. I didn’t get to enjoy my last cross country trip because George never did figure out how to lean into the turns so it would be nice to do it again without him.
Epic road trips are so much easier now. There are very few really empty stretches of road nowadays and most of the freeway exits have chain c-stores and gas stations close by. I don’t usually drive longer than six hours a day so I have time to relax and explore. It might be more doable than you think, you are just used to having deadlines and you can make your own now.
Store your sealed containers of coffee in the freezer, it will keep it fresher. We might not buy coffee out anymore, but we definitely do have an addiction going on.
Original quote from way back in 2004.
“I do not believe that just because you are opposed to abortion, that that makes you pro-life. In fact, I think in many cases, your morality is deeply lacking if all you want is a child born but not a child fed, a child educated, a child housed. And why would I think that you don’t? Because you don’t want any tax money to go there. That’s not pro-life. That’s pro-birth. We need a much broader conversation on what the morality of pro-life is.”

Principled objections to unprincipled stances don’t carry nearly as much zing to their unprincipled targets as we wish they would.
A friend asked me if I had plans for the fall. It took me a minute to realize she meant Autumn, and not the collapse of civilization.
It’ll be another staycation for me in August.
As far as work went, it was a light day, but since they didn’t have a lot of people, I was on the table for most of the sort, then frantic trying to clean up the slide while The Supreme Shouting Officer was yelling over the radio. I did my Aldi run on the way home, since it’s hard to have a cheeseburger and fries without burgers, buns, and potatoes. The rain has intensified, so I shall nap till game time.
I’m sure there’s no cause for alarm.
Nifty!
Sounds like the start of one of those conspiracy stories involving Reptile Aliens
Look at you, being all sensible and logical. Don’t you know “pro-life” is about forcing women to squeeze out babies because that’s all we’re for?? And if the baby should be unable to survive after birth, well, that’s just punishment for, um, something.
As for road trips, I do hate them with a white hot hate. Hours in a car are torture for me. I wonder if I’d hate it less if I traveled off interstates, through small towns and scenic areas. Maybe. Maybe not.
I’ve whacked the grass and weed on the corner hill. I used to mow there, but the mower is heavy and difficult to rassle on a slope. The whacker is much simpler to handle, and the battery lasts long enough to do it all.
I’ve also emptied the dishwasher and completed a run to Food Lion for a few things. But no tarragon. They carry 3 or 4 brands of spices and seasonings, but nary a tarragon among them! I’ll give Harris Teeter a try, and failing there, I suppose I can order some on line.
I may go futz in my yard for a while - lots of little, non-strenuous chores mock me. The fresh air and sunshine will do me good.
