(Old) Who's thinking about summer plans in the MMP?

Nada.

Hungry. There are words.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

You have a lighter and some ASFs.
But hope you get some power soon.

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 12c/53f with a predicted high of 20c/68f and sunny. Weather app says “Sure, it could be fucking warmer outside, but there could also be more brain-eating zombies. Count your fucking blessings.” I do, really, I do…

It’s great that people are thinking of you and clearly missing your expertise, but you’re right to take some time for yourself first. Now your old boss knows you will be considering work later in the year, you’ll probably hear your name mentioned quite a bit!

Congratulations to him! You’re quite right, so often kids over here are pushed to believe that you won’t get anywhere without a university education and the resulting degree. Academia is not for everyone, and there’s nothing wrong with learning a trade instead if that’s what you’re drawn to.

What? You’re gay? I’d never have guessed!

I’m sorry you’re not getting what you really want, but happy that you’re getting something fixed that will be better than it is now.

And some concerned imaginary friends too - I hope you and Monks are ok and not stranded in the basement for too long.

Yesterday was fairly uneventful as far as irk was concerned, got home a little later than usual as my bus was cancelled so I took one that goes a different route so a slightly longer walk at the end. Fed the cats, fussed Muffin’s head for five seconds before the hissing started, faffed about doing stuff, had some dinner and then went to collect 'im indoors from the station.

This morning I was up a little later (6am!), and out of the house by 7am so slightly later bus than usual. It’s Friday, I deserve it. Fairly good journey to work although there was a broken down train on the line and some cable theft reported (which affects signalling and points) so the slow train was slower than usual and did not call at any intervening stations. I was still here in reasonable time so it’s all good. From here, the day descends into chaos.

I have to take minutes at a 2hr dept meeting where I know they like to go over and over the same stuff every meeting, and they never manage to keep to time. The meeting chariperson is rubbish at steering things so it’ll be a frustrating morning. Then I have to do some of my minion’s work as she’s on leave today and we have five assignment submissions, so that will take up my afternoon. Glad it’s Friday, bring on 4pm!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 94 and cloudy this mornin’ but N.O.S. this afternoon. I need to take care of candle duty over to the church house this mornin’ and then we will be bears who brunch at Eggs Up. I think we will also have a ramble through the countryside after that. The rest of the day will be spent in RDOS inactivities as is our wont. This may or may not include quality cee-mint pond time.

WAIT!!! WHAT??? I’M GAY?!?!? Imagine my surprise when I finally admitted it to myself! Also, this truly never gets old!

shoe hope your electricicals are on by now. If not, hope it happens soonest.

*JtC sorry you can’t get the eyes you want, but yay for gettin’ the eyes you once had again. I will probably deal with the same thing within a few years.

Now I need more caffeine and to purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. I just know the public does not appreciate all my efforts.

Happy Firday Y’all!

I spent a year in college after high school and discovered that I was not academically inclined. When I left school I joined the Carpenter’s union. Later I shifted trades and spent the next forty two years as an electrician.. Your grandson will do well. There is always a shortage of skilled tradesmen.

This reminded me of one day at my grandmother’s - it was raining at her house but literally across the street it was dry. Of course there’s a line between rain and no rain, but it was weird seeing it right down her little one-way street.

Back when I was a Navy Reservist (once a month, plus 2 weeks a year) we’d start our weekend with a meeting and it was always the same crap - ALWAYS! After about a year of it, I decided to just resign my commission and sever my ties. Never regretted it (well, except the part about getting 4 days pay for 2 days of playing Navy.)

I think I woke 3 times this morning before I finally gave up and got up. It was almost as if I was worried about making an appointment on time, except the only thing going today is laundry. I dunno. Anyway, I’m up and almost breakfasted and caffeinated.

I saw on line that Dollar General has the kind of folder I want for a buck. They’re just down the road a piece, so I’m going to zip over there today and get one (assuming one is in stock.) Then I can start getting our travel docs in order. I want to be sure everything is documented on paper before we head out.

It appears FCD has finally found someone to build our fuel tanks. He fired the last guys because they were mostly blowing us off and he got tired of it. (Two other places where we inquired are very busy and not interested in our project.) We saw samples of the new guy’s work on line - he’s good. But there’s no way we’ll have tanks before we leave, dammit. So this summer is shot as far as boating goes. Maybe we’ll leave the slip in September?

Tomorrow is the marina’s Start of Season Picnic and we’ll head over there. Theoretically, the rain will be overnight and will clear by 7AM, well ahead of the 1PM start time. That should be fun. Then Sunday is the auto show in Leonardtown - so a very social weekend.

Meanwhile, I have quiet morning time till my sweetie wakes up.

Happy Firday!!

Mornin’ everyone

It’s 49°F and lightly raining. The day will be cloudy with showers, and the high temperature will only be around 60°F.

Shoe, I hope your power is back on and all is well.

Why can I not fall asleep when I set an alarm? I went to bed around 9:30 last night and set my alarm to work time wake up. I could not sleep, and when the alarm finally went off, all I wanted to do was sleep. However, I got up, showered, fixed my hair and face, and came downstairs to make coffee.

My husband got up not long after I was downstairs. He’ll follow me to the dealership, and then we’ll go and grab breakfast. He’s excited about eating at this dive/greasy spoon. I am not because I had digestive issues within an hour last time we ate there. The problem is that I was in a museum, and no one wants issues in public.

JtC, I’m sorry you can’t get the lenses you wanted, but at least you’ll only need readers. I hate having to wear glasses all the time now. When I was around twelve, I needed readers. By the time I hit 25, I needed glasses for nearsightedness, but could read without glasses. By age 53, I discovered I could no longer use a computer without glasses, and reading labels became problematic.

FCM, I hope this fuel tank guy works out.

Okily-dokily, time to find clothes to go out in public. Wait, that makes it sound like I’m sitting here without clothes. I have clothes on, just not public clothes. You all take care.

Yeah, I learned the electrical trade in the military, along with a lot of other useful skills. It paid off later on in civilian jobs and in maintaining my own home. I did finally finish a BA degree, but it was only useful in applying for jobs that had any degree as a requirement. None of those jobs were remotely connected to my academic schooling.

So one has to have a vehicle registered in one’s name to get a DL in California?

Up, tea in hand (I don’t drink anything in my tea, so I can still have fasting blood work done), sheveled and fixing to go to the PCP (you know you’re getting older when you have to differentiate between medical types). After I’m done there, I’ll swing through Bojangles for a chicken biscuit, then go to the grocery outlet. I’m ouchy today after the parking lot trek yesterday. That convinced me that, yeah, the ortho was right, I’m not ready to go back to irk yet.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I have a couple stateside trips planned but no out of the country journeys yet.

Boston and Mystic, Connecticut for July.
Utah for the fall.

I usually go out of the country one or twice each year but just feel a little less enthusiastic this year mostly due to my own issues.

It doesn’t make sense to me. I think she’s confused. She could always get a California ID. I think what’s happening is that she can’t get the car registered without a DL. I don’t know why that would be, but it makes more sense.

Still no power (but “helpful” texts from Xfinity) so no food in tummy, and I seriously don’t know how I can possibly work 9 hours listening to my friggin’ coworkers.

I realized - lying on concrete in the basement listening to my house shake around me - that everything I liked about my job revolved around people who are no longer there.
The grown-ass adults are gone, and I’m a glorified babysitter.

Does that mean it’s time to do some job-hunting?

Another possibility is that since her license is expired and / or she’s elderly they’d require a road test. It’s probably very bad form to show up for your road test in a car with expired or no plates. I bet that’s an instant fail.

Damn, Johnny, you don’t need this. Poor Sis & SO don’t need it either, but each of us sort of owns our own problems. Piling them on others is sometimes necessary, but it sure rankles those others when the problems themselves are so unnecessary.

That is a very powerful hunk of knowledge to have. It’s easy to wile away a year or three aware that something has changed at work and you always come home aggravated, but not able to pinpoint what has changed.

Given the turnover in that industry, you may get better coworkers soon. But that depends on you still having a good manager who does the hiring. I’ve lost track of whether S.M. has moved on or not. Once you’ve got bad managers, abandon hope (and ship) seems the best advice IME.

Good luck whatever action you take in response to your new knowledge.

That could be it. I don’t know if she needs a practical test, but she would definitely need a car for one. Only… She says she needs a DL to register the car. But she says she can’t get a DL until the car is registered.

Yep. As I said, I have my own problems. It’s very frustrating for me.

In other news, I just spent too much time trying to find a chart of signed numeric characters:

{ Positive 0
A Positive 1
B Positive 2
C Positive 3
D Positive 4
E Positive 5
F Positive 6
G Positive 7
H Positive 8
I Positive 9

} Negative 0
J Negative 1
K Negative 2
L Negative 3
M Negative 4
N Negative 5
O Negative 6
P Negative 7
Q Negative 8
R Negative 9

I searched and looked through all of my folders on my irk computer where I would have saved the file, plus lots of googling, to no avail. Just now, I searched my Mac and there it was. I’ve forwarded the Word document to my irk computer.

Abbey wants attention this morning. It’s hard to work when a cat is licking your hand.

About to get a partial nail avulsion.
I am nervous but theres no reason to be. She says I’ll be walking around fine, and I did lose a nail once so not a big thing.
Its nice out, but will be 60 for awhile which is good as its been 80 and theres no a/c in the building yet.

Morning all. Up early and got my Firday shopping done before school started, then came home and was going to post to the MMP but SQUIRREL! so just getting to it now. Cloudy outside, warm (76F) and humid and a 90% chance of rain tonight. Outside of the usual afternoon gym trip, nothing much on the agenda; might ride over to a car detailing/cleaning place to see what it would cost to get my car done up nicely before getting down to the dealership for trade-in. Won’t earn back whatever I put in, but do feel like I should trade in a reasonable clean (internally) car–but that’s just me.

And scroll mode…Engage. (Would have sworn I posted last night…guess not–42 to go).

Cookie, I see and that makes sense for the school, glad he’s starting out with the expertise and the tools.

Oopsie, I try to get green bananas when I buy them on Firday and hope they ripen just right by Saturday. Sometimes I guess right… Hope you a BFF’s can make the festival.

Even on the days you’d like to murder him? And my cruise line was auctioning off nicer rooms, I thought about bidding but since I’m traveling solo they would charge me double the bid, so didn’t pursue it. And good news on the tanks (you’re welcome).

Cookie, hoped you survived…

Taters, I concur, 11 years without a battery change is just asking for trouble, and a brake check is always a good thing. And I have the opposite problem with alarms, I sleep well enough but always wake up 30-40 minutes before it goes off.

red, take care and glad the paper-irk is finally moving. And eating after fasting for a Drs/ appointment is always good eating.

swampy, hooray on the initial cee-mint day. And make out with whoever you want to is my creed.

JtC, sorry your eyes didn;t respond as you hoped, hope your 40-year old eyes will do the job.And that social group sounds great, keep up advised on the budding romance…

Well, that’s true, lots of people have said I should be committed…

VanGo, I golfed only once in my life and have no particular interest in doing so again. And golfing on a rainy day…what did you think of the whining (IMHO) of the pro golfers about a small bit of mud messing up their shots?

doggio, sorry roomie got hurt, I hope her work has some coverage for it.

shoe, popsicles are often given to the 5-6 year old soccer players after practice, and I occasionally have scored one..they are unreasonably good on a hot day. And hope the lights come back soon; can you go anyplace near where the power is on to get something to eat? As for your job, isn’t S.M. still around?

flyboy, nice of you two to be concerned, hope the gull is feeling better. And sad news on ‘BIL’ , it does sound like they may need some type of assisted living arrangement soon.

boo fae, hey, 5 seconds of contact; maybe 10 the next time…progress is being made. Hope you survived the meeting (why do they call them minutes when they take hours to be produced?).

Hippie, glad you knew what you were good at and what you were average-at-best at; I think a lot of folks never come to that realization (or do so too late).

Just googled it and ick! Hope it all goes well for you.

And I’m at the bottom of the MMP so best quit while I’m even, catch y’all later.

I’m unaware of any requirement to own/register a car in order to get a license, but I don’t live in CA.

My dad went golfing once and won a prize - for the highest score!!! Golf lessons!!! He never bothered again. I was never interested - I’m not even much interested in putt-putt.

Second load is about to come out of the dryer and last load will go in. Then lunch. Then, who knows??

Turns out my summer is even less interesting when I’m not buying a house.

I’m planning on heading downstairs in a few minutes to hit the elliptical. Hopefully I can make a habit of that. Certainly I have the time…

Potential nasty weather this afternoon, which is a source of anxiety for me, but might also engage my interest.

Other than that, nothing to report.

There is a stairwell right next to our apartment that would be my choice of shelter. Hopefully we never have to test that theory.
