(Old) Winter Solstice MMP

Goo and Abbey asked me to get a Christmas card for Catmom from them, so I did.

Well, I’m broke again. I payed off my primary credit card after a couple/few months of not paying the entire balance. Paid electricity and water & sewage. I stopped using my Capital One card because my REI dividends are no longer redeemable for cash. I only use it for emergencies. There was that $3,000 plumbing bill last Summer, and I still had a balance on it from before. And I’ve accidentally bought some things with it. Anyway, I paid a kilobuck toward the balance (minimum payment was $115 or $150… something like that). After deducting the mortgage payment due on the 1st of January, I have $78. :frowning: The good news is that after the next mortgage payment, I should owe less than $10,000 on the house. Still owe $2,200 for the concrete and lawn.

Wifey, RN came home early. Both of the patients she had today have COVID so she couldn’t see them. She’s gone to the supermarket to return a gallon of apple cider she says ‘tastes like metal’.

That depends - what were you drinking???

After Daughter fetched Roxy, FCD and I drove down to the marina to see our new slip. I’m pleased. While there, our new boat neighbors were pulling in to make sure they could maneuver into their slip (they did fine) and it turns out they’re also leaving the same marina we are. Word has it that they’re in financial difficulties, which suggests slip rents are about to shoot up. Oh well, not our problem any longer.

I have my car back - it came in just under $800 - for 4 new tires, mounted, balanced, and aligned. Good for 50K miles - I suspect the tires will last longer than the car will. If I can get one more year out of it, that’ll be great. I don’t know if it will reach 250Kmiles in my lifetime - it’s just about to hit 212K. But we shall see.

Home again, supper plans involve foraging. Tomorrow, we’re going to MIL’s apartment to pick up the twin bed and check the fridge for science experiments. There’s also some mail there that FCD needs to have a look at - including something addressed to his late father. Here’s hoping neither of us get hit with Roxy’s crud.

Speaking of Costco, the nearest one to us is about 30 miles away, so we’ve never gone. But MIL’s sister goes to the one near her 3-4 times a week. I don’t get it…

I’m sorry, wet one - nothing like adding insult to injury.

It’s grey today and what was supposed to be an otherwise boring week has turned into the world setting up meetings like their hair is on fire, trying to wrap things up before the end of the year/impending holidays because suddenly their bosses realized that they needed to wrap up all their contracting before year end. I’m heartily sick of reading and pretending to be a lawyer at this point, all while getting frenzied messages of holiday cheer. Bah, humbug. My colonoscopy is looking downright relaxing at this point.

Howdy Y’all! We got shorn, procured provisions, got our fried chikin N.O.L.s which we et upon return to da cave, but after we stored the provisions. Then it was nappage. Then day drinkin’. A busy day!

Cookie I won’t let OYKW go to Sam’s cause he will want to walk up and down every aisle. Also, a lot of way needless things fall into the cart. I go in with a list and the goal of gettin’ the heck outta there asap.

Sounds like the hunter/gatherer theory at work. I’ve heard it claimed that in prehistory, men were hunters, women gatherers, and our shopping habits in the present still show a bit of that. (Yes, I am aware that exceptions to the gender stereotypes described do exist. I was speaking in general terms.)

FTR: I did not mention gender in my posts.

The main reason hubs still lives is because he’s so good with the cats, and he is the one who scoops the litterboxes. I can forgive a lot for that, LOL!!!

Soooooo frustrating! You are a the sort of PTB that I loved to work for. You actually care for your staff which isn’t as common as it should be.

Grrrrr! Actually, his family (mine as well) are perfectly happy to spend their vacation sitting around and talking. I’m the overachiever here, LOL!!! I’ve got the week planned out, three “big” things and three half day things, plus a day for them to come over and do laundry before heading to CA. It’s always good to have out of state guests, it gets us off our butts and out doing things.

One of our big things to do is the skywalk over the Grand Canyon, (which is a big nope for me) and then head over to the meteor crater. I know the crater is just a big hole in the ground, but it always makes me think big thoughts.

Well dang. I hope the new one is as long lasting as the old one, ours has been outlasted a chest freezer which might mean it will be dying soon too.

Many not MMP friendly words would have happened had I been there.

Wasn’t there an old discredited scientific theory about that? Something about men hunting so evolved to focus on the target and women were the gatherers so we needed to know when things would be ripe and ready to gather. It turned out to be a lot of hooey, but I can remember hearing it in an Anthropology class.

Hubs gathers. I hunt. He makes me crazy, we just need milk and eggs, why do we need to walk every single aisle when they are just right over there!?!?

Come on shoe. I know he’s all cute and stuff but the minks needed to be saved from the fire!

Isn’t that standard with him?

That is super pretty! Here’s hoping the post office will be gentle with it.

I do that all of the time and then I feel badly because I can’t finish it. I’m glad you had a good time with your Dad.

Fingers crossed.

I’ve looked up how to grow Bird of Paradise in AZ and I will need to have it on our covered porch to avoid leaf burn. They don’t really like extreme heat, so I might have to bring it in during the summer. I might need to put the mist system on a timer but I should do that anyhow. The plants and hummers all love the misters in the summer.

Today was kinda busy, I picked up produce and sorted out shares for NF and Chicken Guy. I kept three of the heads of cauliflower to blanch and freeze (done) and was just dusting my hands off when I saw a post from someone on Nextdoor saying they had no food and couldn’t get a box due to a broken down car :frowning:

The local library has a give and take food shelf so I took a couple of bags and “went shopping” for her. She seemed super happy when I showed up with three bags of canned and boxed food and said she could see several meals without unpacking the bags so that worked out well. Another neighbor is going to take a look at her car, it sounds like the fuel pump to me.

This is what Nextdoor is supposed to be, not a site for the CT nuts to scream about their latest crazy pants theory.

Afternoon all. Have put another 75 minutes into the mega-crossword (still have about 40% left to do), done my mile of swimming and got the garbage and recyclables out to the curb, so it has been a fairly productive afternoon. Still fairly warm (47F) so turned the house heat on and it’s warming up nicely.

Not a Costco or Sam’s member, have joined BJ’s (same type of store) and having been there, I can understand the appeal, but most of the stuff is in too large a container for just little ol’ me. Probably stop in Post-Xmas and see what I can use.

FCM, presume Roxy got to sample the cookies she helped with. And good news of the boat slip.

Taters, glad they had one in stock.

wet one, another reason to live in a house without stairs…

JtC, that’s a nice gift, housekeeper must know your interests pretty well.

Yep. Me too.

nellie, regarding your dream…sure you didn’t have a sample of shoe’s favorite relaxant before that?? And ‘sitting around and talking’ pretty well sums up my visits to by brother and his family; except replace ‘talking’ with ‘bingeing on TV programs and Netflix movies’ for 3 days. Active folks they are not. And the Meteor Crater is one of my favorite places out Arizona way. And good on ya and the other neighbor for being good people.

Oopsie, haven’t had a rice Krispies treat in ages…now you have me wanting one. And sounds like you have the holidays well-planned out, with family and friends. Enjoy.

Flyboy, hope the finances improve once we’re through the season. And appears you’re closing in on that final mortgage payment.

talkie, well, if there are lots of people talking out of their ah*s, then you should be prepared for your colonoscopy…

Need to do a little more internettin’ and then forage for sustenance. Take care all.

I’m more a hunter shopper.

There were some dsw commercials that would amuse me. They would have a whispery voice over talking about the hunting of shoes. Very Mutual of Omaha.

Today we had the holiday lunch at work. Since 2020, it became whoever is in the office gets taken to the big boss’s favourite restaurant. This was the first year of mandatory office time, so a bigger group. We had 3 separate tables. A good time had by most. One will have a bit of living down to do. Ah well, that is the way office frivolity can go.

Well, that was a wasted trip. The other day I ordered an Rx refill, as I’d otherwise run out while at my daughter’s. Last night the pharmacist called to say it couldn’t be refilled until today because it was too early. So I went down there, only to find out it can’t be refilled until tomorrow. At least I got some exercise.

I’ve heard they’re pretty vicious. In fact, in the dream, I was surprised it let me put the leash on but chalked it up to some Dr. Doolittle powers of yours. The part-coyote dog was also well-behaved since he left the mink alone.

I don’t mind the mustache, but I have a firm policy against kissing libertarians.
Baker, he’s all yours!

Hmm. Maybe not as equivocal as I thought.

Wanna stop by and check mine? My least favorite household chore.

Oh, I had the mink. I was worried about Charm and Pretzel, but apparently they were Danson’s responsibility.

 I think he was outside watching the fire, as I don’t remember him in the house. He was probably thinking some blueberry in smalls threw a box of lighters at a package of Doritos, and now he and Spot were going to miss cocktail hour.

I began cutting my dad’s hair at around age 6. He began going bald around the same age your hubs did, so it was just a matter of taking the guard off the clippers and going to town. I still get roped into it when I go to visit him. :stuck_out_tongue:

Try a 5# chihuahua in a single cab compact pickup with two fat ladies. SIL made the mistake of giving him a few boiled peanuts when we were out rambling and her (late) boy, Diddy Boo jumped up on her shoulder to put his nose to the glass. In less than 10 seconds, both windows were rolled down in mid-July heat. I’m surprised he didn’t just float away.

I’m not a member of a warehouse club for the same reason. Back when I smoked and entertained more, it was a good deal, but now that I’m tobacco free and a hermit, not so much.

That sucks about your wife’s car herald. I hope that the repairs are quick and easy.

Glad Roxie’s feeling a bit better and hope that SIL gets over his crud Moooooooom. Nice that you found a less expensive slip for the boat.

Pretty quilling shoe.

You were a most excellent neighbor JtC.

Idiot boss is off until after Xmas. The lead that no one liked until recently (there was a vast improvement in attitude) was in charge and asked the department manager for an hour lunch break for us today, since half the department was doing dirty Santa. Manager said no, but they could have 10 extra minutes like the other department. The extra break time wasn’t conveyed to my cow-orker back in the back and myself, but oh, well. Come to find out that the lead told everyone to just go ahead and take the hour lunch, just don’t clock back in and the idiot boss would correct their time. Ruh-roh!

This afternoon, Manager comes back to apologize.to cow-orker for the lack of communication and to let us know that he didn’t approve the full hour lunch, so it Would Be Dealt With. I’m’a takin’ a lawn chair and some popcorn with me tomorrow. :stuck_out_tongue:

Given that most departments are short of irk right now, it wouldn’t surprise me if they sent us home at lunch or offered us irk in receiving, which is waaaaaaaay behind.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Ours is Friday, at a great restaurant (and it was the first four times I had a Vieux Carré). I’m not going. Get up at 0430, and leave the house at 0510 or 0515. Get to the Burien orifice around eight (unless there’s heavy traffic). ‘Work’ until 1100. Catch the party bus to Seattle for an excellent lunch (and some Vieux Carrés). Back to the orifice at 1500, and then everyone goes home. Then I’ll have a 120-mile drive during rush hour on the Friday before a holiday where everyone is driving somewhere. Getting home would take at least three hours, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it took four. After probably four good drinks.

I’m going to pass. On Friday I’ll log on two hours late (0800 instead of 0600), irk 'till eleven (if there is any irk), and then start the holiday.

Mine, mine, all mine!!

That sounds like a much better plan to me.

‘I want a moustache, dammit!’

Thank you! I’ve never heard this one.

Classy, and yet …

Love it.

Wifey, RN was a little down before she left on her rounds, and I could tell she was down when she got home. She suggested we go to the Gateway 1890 Speakeasy. I just paid off my primary credit card, so…

We each had three Hemingway daiquiris, and we shared a shrimp cocktail, fried dill pickles, and bread and artichoke dip. She’s feeling better now.

You sound like a good hubby. That kind of stuff, or chocolates(lots) would really help. There have been a lot of nurses in my family, sad things happen.

You made me laugh. She has been cleaning for us since 2018, she sees our porch and back yard almost weekly AND she knows who spends his days killing monsters online. Of course she knows that I’m the one with the dirt on my hands, housekeepers know all!

I was just really touched that she thought about me as a person and not just one of her “houses” while she was relaxing in Hawaii.

I knew there was something special about you

If you enjoy the thoughts you think while looking at the hole, you sure will think some really big thoughts at the New Mexico ground zero memorial.

If you ever think you want to do the Grand Canyon skywalk, I will not go with you, but I will mention that I’ve seen some of the very large NA employees who stand out on the walk in case of panic. They look large enough to carry two of me without effort, so I’m sure that one of them could get you off if you freeze. Which you won’t because you aren’t a weenie like me, but it might be comforting to know this beforehand.

Thank you for the nice words, but this was a group effort. Someone else suggested the library have a give and take shelf and many other people filled the “pantry” with shelf stable food. All I did was wave at the nice library lady, fill some bags and leave.

I’m hearing the car will be running tomorrow which will allow neighbor to go to the library and get more food without waiting in line or to the food bank a couple of miles away for a real food box.

I’ve long maintained that there is not a lack of food in the world, it is the lack of transportation that makes people suffer.

Ohhh, that’s just how hubs does it to this day, LOL!!!

Way back when, we used to have a St. Barnyard dog. We always knew when she had been litter box snacking (our fault, we didn’t secure the door properly) because she would wake us up out of a dead sleep and send us reeling outside for air. Good lord, just the memory is making my eyes water.

Take notes!!!

Hmmmm. Are they breaded or just deep fried?

I’d feel better after three daiquiris any day of the week, LOL!!!

I’d like one or five right now to be perfectly honest.

GG isn’t allowed in the bedroom when we are showering because he will jump over the glass door to have happy water fun with us. NOT fun. Tonight I didn’t make sure the door was closed so he followed VBC when she pushed the door open because it was closed and she is a cat.

You know how sometimes you left a new bar of soap on the sink before getting into the shower? And then kinda scooch over with your feet on the bathmat until you can grab the soap while not dripping water all over the just cleaned floor?

The jerkface took that opportunity to nose the door open enough to climb into the still running shower and shed all over the clear glass door and then scampering with wet feet across the house, splattering water and fur on the freshly cleaned floors to the back room where he could drip water and fur on all of the bedding I just washed.

Both of the males in this house are not on my good list tonight.
