(Old) Winter Solstice MMP

Since she mostly works with elderly patients, she does have her losses. Today it was just patients with COVID. (Or the first one had COVID, and she’s rescheduling the other one.) It’s 19:30, and she’s going to bed already. As of now, both cats are with her.

Breaded and deep-fried. I have plenty of Baken-Ets. I’m thinking maybe I should buy a dill pickle and make ‘panko breading’ out of the fried deadpig sheaths, and see how fried pickles taste that way.

Yep. Rum is good. Only, I don’t want to drink all of the 10-year-old Bacardi, so I’m just having some gin now.

Drop some juniper berries in the gin two days ago. It makes such a difference!

Don’t have any. Actually, this is the first time I’ve had straight gin (Trader Joe’s Juniper 8). I always have it with tonic. It’s pretty good this way.

Happy Hump Day!

Cold morning, 23 degrees, so no dog park.
Today is Hump Day right?

I don’t understand my son’s schedule.
He has Thorsday the 28 and Thorsday the 4th as his days off for the holidays.
I hoped he had tomorrow off so we could get some stuff done around here.
The days don’t make sense, but whatever.

Shoe, I could put a note on the bathroom door reminding me to turn on the heat, but I would walk right past the note and never see it.

Everything seems to be rolling along with the old house. The mold guy will be out there tomorrow. The drywall guy will be out on Friday.

On an annoying note, we have mice.
I ordered some mouse traps.
I feel like I will never get away from them.

Richard called me tonight to let me know the woman who lived here before ordered stuff online and forgot to change her address. I’ll look out for the packages; they are supposed to come next week.

B/H Mom has been sick, and also been nasty. I don’t know if she’s worse because she is sick, or she’s just being nasty. I’ve not been feeling well and my patience is wearing thin. I don’t know why she calls me during the day when she knows I am irking, but I didn’t call her back this evening. Just not in the mood. I needed to talk to the realtor anyway.

I got my new phone, but it’s still sitting. Setting it up… I’m not in the mood for it.
Of course, since the new phone was delivered, my old phone is ringing and the text notification is irking. However, I’m still getting text messages hours after they were sent.

The GR have horrible gas, all the time.
I think I will never get the small out of the truck.

Sorry about your car Herald.
I had a truck stolen once. I found it before the police did, the f’er drove it until it ran out of gas.
What pissed me off even more is that they reprogrammed all my rock stations to rap stations.

Cookie, if walking up and down every aisle is a woman thing, I missed that gene.
I’m a get in and out as quickly as possible kind of person.
I used to hate shopping with my mother and even worse with my sister.
We could go out looking for one thing, hit seven different stores, and come back with all kinds of shit except for what we went out for in the first place.

BASTIDS!!!

KMET DJ Jim Ladd died, and I started a thread about it. So your comment reminds me of when Rock station KMET became KTWV ‘The Wave – Smooth Jazz’. *ugh* But at least I discovered KROQ.

I’m not sure what industry your son works in, but if he you want him to have certain days off, they most likely have to be requested in advance.
Not “hoped” for … officially requested.

The days off probably make sense in the context of what everyone else is doing, e.g. what days other folks requested off, so the availability is juggled around that.

Without seeing the whole roster, I’m sure it seems strange!

And yet again, other people are going out of their way to make their problems into your problems.

… you don’t hafta say “yes,” it’s okay to say, “Aw, that sucks. Hopefully she’ll fix that.” CLICK and hang up the phone.

Why would you? Doesn’t seem like her presence in your life is beneficial in any way.

Went to the Gettin’ Sto’ and bought ALL the alliums: onions, garlic, jarred minced garlic, and green onions.
Okay, not ALL. I have chives growing against all odds in a pot in my yard.

Was gonna do meatloaf with that ground beef I’d thawed, but just couldn’t get excited for the finished product.
So imma make Polish kotlety (imagine if meatloaf, meatballs, and hamburger patties all had a … party … ) once I get off my tushie and go start soaking my bun.

No. Really. That’s step #1. Soak a bun.

Morning, mumpers! It’s a toasty 12c/53f with no predicted change, and partly cloudy. Weather app says “Beware of the fucking Goldilocks Zone. Soon it’s going to be super fucking shitty again. Don’t get too comfortable.” Well, we do have a warning for storm-force winds and it’s a bit blowy out there. A couple of friends who live further north have reported downed trees locally so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for today’s travel.

We are leaving in about 3hrs, train down to London, then another one to Gatwick where we’re staying tonight. Tomorrow morning we’re off to Spain (Alicante) for a week so hopefully the weather improves and the plane goes where it’s supposed to!

JtC I’ve been on the Grand Canyon Skywalk, it was an amazing experience. A year or so later, there was a rafting trip down the river below, really quite mindboggling to drift by on the water and look up to see where we’d been standing!

Moooom congrats on the new home for the boat, cheaper and more sheltered sounds like a good deal.

flyboy sounds like a good idea to ditch the office festivities, a long drive there and back in holiday traffic doesn’t not make for a happy trip.

shoe the card is pretty!

sari ruining your radio stations like that is surely a hanging offence!

Right…I suppose I had better pack some stuff if I’m going to be away for a while. Then I need to sort out the cat stuff so the cat sitter can find it all. And have something to eat.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 31 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 59 and N.O.S. for the day. No plans to leave da cave, so sloth, general overall uselessness, nappage, day drinkin’, and bein’ iretired drains on society is the plan. Sup shall be grilled chikin tenders, sallit, and cheesey garlic bread.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Mornin all. Almost sunrise here on a calm, gray, and dry day as I start typing. Been up since about 5am. Presently 71/22 on the way to a less cloudy more breezy 74/23.

I read all for the last day and a half but won’t try to play-by-play it. Most of you already responded to each other as I would have: Yaays, boos, “Nellie, that was some good drugs”, and "Sari please say ‘No’ for once"s as appropriate to all.

Got up extra early yesterday on a cool gray breezy day with very occasional spits of rain. Leisurely breakfast out, then golf, then home. Late afternoon & evening were two dancing sessions with casual dinner stuck in between. Semi-lazy, semi not.

Her Ladyship will be gone all day today, first to Daughter’s then to Mah Jongg. We’ll dance twice again this evening after some manner of dinner together first. Haven’t made my solo plans yet; too cool for pool / beach, might golf, might finally get shorn following Swampys fine example.

Happy Hammer-of-Thor day to one and all. Especially those having extra days off or traveling to Spain for a week of fun. :envy:

Cheers!!

Good morning, everyone.

It’s 42F and primarily cloudy outside. The expected high temp will be 51F and the day will remain generally cloudy.

FCM, yay for a better and less expensive boat slip!

I checked my work email several times yesterday before noon, but nothing from HR. However, the deputy (my boss) is on it and will run it to the ground so I can quit worrying about it.

boofae, I hope your trip to Spain is terrific.

I’m usually an in-and-out shopper, but I confess to wandering most aisles at Costco to see what’s new. I don’t wander down the pantry/canned goods aisles. Spices and herbs in those large containers would go stale before I ever used all of them, and I don’t bake enough to warrant 25-pound bags of flour, and I rarely buy dairy there. I do confess to wandering the household goods and looking at the shirts and jackets. Sometimes, you can find really decent stuff at an excellent price. I buy produce, an occasional bakery item, meat, dog food, diet coke, some deli items, and frozen vegetables. Like the peas, I adore the Costco peas. Peas are one of my most favorite vegetables, but only if they’re raw or cooked so they still pop in your mouth. Overcooked peas are an abomination unto man, woman, and child. Can you tell I like peas?

I was up before 3:00 a.m. again because the pups had to go out. Once up, there is no point in going back to bed. I did try to take a nap yesterday but was unsuccessful. Since yesterday was generally a day of sloth (other than taking care of the pups, cleaning the kitchen, and doing a load of puppy blankets), I will have to go out in public today. Hopefully, not for long. I just need to pick up a couple of stocking stuffers and some Christmas PJs for my son and husband. That’s it, then I’m done. I think I’m going to make Christmas day an all PJ/lounge pants/shirts kind of day. It’ll just be the three of us, so we may as well be comfy.

Alrighty then. On with the day!

Many, many years ago, one of my high school friends met Tom Selleck and had a pic taken with him (this would have been late 70s/early 80s.) She then used that photo for her Christmas cards!! Cracked me up!!!

My mom loved Ella, so I grew up with her vocals filling our house. Yet I never really appreciated her till I heard her again recently. She was an amazing talent!

No, this didn’t prompt naughty thoughts at all. Not one bit… :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

I had a friend some eons back who used to work in an oncology ward - she couldn’t take it after a while. I can’t even imagine!

Time to get another cat?? < d&r >

Speaking of cats, the gray and white beastie that seems to have adopted our yard (I’ve seen it on the front porch on a rug, in the back yard under the truck, and on our back deck on the glider) has now been fed by FCD because, just like his mom, he’s animal-crazy. I admit, if the feline was scrawny or sad-looking, I’d have probably put some kibbles out, too, but it’s fat and fluffy, so it’s either successfully feral or someone else’s cat that likes to vacation in our yard. No, we’re not adopting another cat. At least not letting it in the house.

That happens to me, too, every once in a while. I don’t understand it. Fortunately, none of the texts were critical or anything.

As for shopping - with me it depends. If I just need milk, I run in and just grab milk. If I’m doing my restock shopping, even if I have a list, I go down most aisles (baby supplies? Not so much) just to see if there are any specials or items I forgot to list. This only counts in Food Lion. I don’t think I’ve ever wandered every aisle in WalMart or its ilk. I’ll take the main corridors and look at the overhead signs before deciding if I need to turn or move on. To me, shopping isn’t an adventure - it’s a necessary evil.

Got a few messages from my youngest sis last night. She’d been having severe pain in one leg - not only could she not stand unassisted, but any movement at all, even while lying down, caused agony. She went to her doc, and shortly after getting home, was told to get an ultrasound ASAP because they feared a clot! Like she needs to be dealing with that on top of everything else! Anyway, while I slept, she messaged that there’s no clot, so that’s something. But she’s still dealing with the pain. I’m not sure how much of her physical issues are directly related to her lifestyle (which I won’t go into) but I can’t help but think that she’s brought some of these things on herself. Still, clots are scary!

Today, we’ll add yet another mattress and foundation to the collection in the basement. The twin sets are supposedly for the grands when Tobias is ready to leave his crib. The queen set needs to be rehomed, but charities won’t accept mattresses, so I dunno. I hate to throw it away - it’s not great, but it still has some life in it.

There’s also a table, leaf, and 4 chairs down there that we don’t need and I don’t want. That should be easier to get rid of - to the Habitat ReStore if nothing else. And that should be the last of MIL’s stuff to deal with until, well, you know…

So that’s the plan for today. And I asked my bro if he wanted me to bring anything on Christmas - of course, he said deviled eggs. I need to find a different recipe, then. I’m bored with the ones I always make.

And so it begins. Happy Thursday!

So The board wouldn’t let me post yesterday, but I did read, even if I didn’t remember. Reasonable Smalls heave again.
Me: “Shaggy, hand me a crayon.”
Shaggy: < turns around, looks at crayons on conduit > “There’s no crayons.”
:face_with_raised_eyebrow:
The boy needs to be tested for drugs and IQ.
Also, Happy Yul!

Spot and I were mixing a MMP sized Margarita.

So has he decided on a name for your new cat yet?

How to Adopt a Cat in 10 Easy Steps

  1. Is that a cat in our yard?
  2. Is that cat in our yard again?
  3. We’re definitely not going to feed it.
  4. OK, just a few pieces of kibble.
  5. Oh, look, he’s back for more kibble.
  6. OK, we’re feeding the cat, but he’s not coming into the house.
  7. OK, he’s coming into the house, but just inside the door.
  8. OK, he’s only coming as far as the kitchen.
  9. No, kitty! Well, looks like he’s going into the living room now.
  10. So what are we naming him?

Whoops. Time to head to the pharmacy.

It’s warmer outside today than it was yesterday, which is delightful. Kids will be back home again shortly - today is a half day for both of them. I’m sure overlygirl is watching more Christmas movies; I wish overlyboy got the same break - he’s got one last test today, then once they come back, they have finals a week after the break ends. Who came up with that schedule I could not say, but it seems ridiculous.

Trying to do “work lite” today - I’ve marked myself as out of the office until the New Year, but half of it is pretend PTO so I don’t get disturbed as much. It drives me bonkers - bonkers, I tell you - that people consistently work super languidly throughout the year, put everything off until just before the winter holidays, then suddenly realize they need to close X deal or complete Y vendor contract and proceed to lose their minds when people are not in the office to review them. 'Tis the season.

I’m really looking forward to going to visit my sister in NC. I didn’t plan it terribly well - we’ll only be there three nights - but I’m glad we’re going. Then we get back and overlygirl gets her braces off and it’s back to work for me New Year’s day because a lot can go wrong when new tech is installed at pharmacies. It all rolls over at 12 a.m. on 1/1, so we monitor processing around the clock so people get their medications. It sucks, but it’d suck more if someone needed meds urgently and couldn’t get them because no one was paying attention.

I’m ‘working lite’ today because I don’t have anything to work on. But I’m logged in and ready for anything that does come in.

I checked my pay stub to see how much PTO I have left. 106 hours, theoretically ‘use or lose’. I’m taking all next week off, so that will burn 24 hours. I’m reasonably sure El Jefe will allow people with excess time to roll it over.

And speaking of the pay stub, after I paid bills yesterday I got a second one. I marked it as read and filed it. When I went to check my PTO, I saw that the second pay stub was for my $500 (net) Christmas bonus. What a nice surprise! I’d completely forgotten we get those. I guess there will be an envelope on my desk when I return on January 3rd.

The very last things I needed in order to be ready for Christmas were two LEGO e-gift cards (one for my “nephew” and one for his gf, who is here for the winter break), but I couldn’t order them online: I tried several times yesterday, and repeatedly got an error during checkout at the “verify your billing address” step. The same error happened again today. I tried different browsers, different devices, clearing my cache, etc. Finally I called customer service, and they let me order them over the phone. Now I just have to print them and tuck them in greeting cards, and I’ll be all set for Saturday’s gathering with my BFFs. :christmas_tree:

I’m taking tomorrow off work, so today is my Friday! Woo hoo!! I have a hard stop at 5pm because of today’s personal training session appointment, and have kind of a lot to do between now and then: good thing nothing else has happened that I feel the need to write about…

Not 32 hours…?

And good…well, it’s 11:35am here as I type this, so still morning, but by the time I finish this it’ll be good afternoon, so I’ll just settle for good. Been unusually slothful even for me this morning, did do the 20 minute water on/water off trick and fixed me a cheeseburger at 9:15am just because I’m retired and can do things like that. 52F heading for 55F and still no rain in sight. Garbage/Recycle folks haven’t been by yet, figures that when I remember to get the stuff out the night before, it’s later in the day when they arrive. Will do the Crossword at the Library/Gym exercise routine again today, tonight’s meal is still to be determined, I’m trying to not keep much fresh stuff around while I’m gone (23rd-27th) so may head out and forage tonight.

Nellie, hope prescription got refilled today.

red, ah the joys of workplace drama. Glad the Idiot isn’t about to ruin the Holiday mood.

Flyboy, it always amazes me that you live 120 miles from your worksite (even if most of it is working from home), Must be a great job and a great living environment to make it work for you. And your support of Wifey, RN was just the thing great husbands do. And ain’t a surprise check ‘in the mail’ a joy?

JtC, haven’t been to the Ground Zero memorial (I think it’s in a pretty restricted area) but one of these days.. I was around when the Skywalk was still being built, and while I am not terrified of heights I have no major need to visit it. And GG would have made for a great 1960’s sitcom character…

Sari, Son’s schedule could be because he didn’t ask soon enough (as shoe suggests) or might be a matter of seniority, the older guys there may get first dibs on days off.

shoe, hope the Kotlety came out well. Sounds neat.

Boo fae, enjoy the trip to (hopefully) sunny Spain. Taking one of the bargain airlines or BA?

FCM, I think that is how Seanette ended up with Buddy; better beware.. Hope sis gets feeling better.

Pretty much describes my shopping ventures at Kroger.

Oopsie, had the same problem trying to get Chewy cards for the various pets, system kept locking up. Ended up getting them at Kroger.

Well, as predicted, it’s after 12pm, so have a good afternoon all and I’m of for another few hours of puzzle-solving and stationary cycling. Take care now.

Twenty-four hours: Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Monday and Tuesday are holidays.

The Holiday party is tomorrow. As I said, I’m not going. So I’ll log on a couple of hours late tomorrow (8 instead of 6) and then log off at 11.

We’re a two-minute walk from the beach, and there’s a nice new berm along the shore to walk on. I can see people walking their dogs out the large front window, and can hang out with the cats in the living room or catio. I can get up at six and start working, and 'go home around a quarter after three. I don’t have to fight traffic four out of five days. The truth be told, the job is usually pretty boring. It was more fun when I was writing a bunch of Easytrieve programs. What I find amazing is that I used to go to our office every day when it was in Belltown. Shorter drive, and I think the traffic was slightly better back then; but it was still about 100 miles (maybe 95 miles). And I drove a Jeep Cherokee. :grimacing: (The poor thing is rarely driven now.)

Yes. Yes, it is.

I am SO frustrated! Trying to get this Rx filled has been insane. I ordered it on Monday. On Tuesday, they said it was too soon to fill and come in Wednesday. On Wednesday, they said oops, still too early, but call first thing in the morning. I called 8 times but got no answer and then disconnected. I called the general store number, and they said call at 10 a.m., as the substitute pharmacist came in then. I keep trying but keep getting a busy signal. I’m leaving this evening.

It IS ridiculous. The school where I taught did that one year, except finals were two weeks after break, not long enough to get in another unit AND review, plus the kids hated having finals looming over their heads during Christmas break. I hope next year, overlyboy’s school sees the light.

Woo-hoo! Just got through!
