And there’s yet another bed in our basement, and 2 bed frames. I’m not going to deal with them now, but soon.
We went to Salsa’s for lunch. Nothing else that has to be done today. Yay chillage!

My shearing was a success, and I’m having a celebratory cappuccino nearby. The day’s stayed cool, but the clouds have mostly cleared out so there’s plenty of shiny blue.
Will have yakkage with Mr Finance Dude in a bit. Should’ve worked a nap in but the appointments kinda chopped my day into small bits of just the wrong length.
Stealing this!
That’s pretty much the way I do it, too.
“[Good] morning” is all I ever say. It’s morning somewhere!
Breeding them, are you?
Pretty much, and it wasn’t the first time in my life that’s happened to me.
Howdy Y’all! Been a day of high sloth as promised. Grillin’ up some chikin tenders was the sum total of productivity. Well, did make sallits and the kitchen got cleanded up, so I reckon those count as productivity. However, all totaled it was less than an hour, so didn’t really cut in to sloth time.
I brought in the mail and perused our local free paper (The Northern Light). Page 2 is a full-page ad for Dank of America. I’ve never set foot into any of the marijuana shops, though I drive by several of them. Is $2.50 for a 1-gram pre-roll a good price? (Not that I’m going to buy any.
)
I’m glad that your sister didn’t have a blood clot Mooooom. I hope they get to the bottom of her pain soon.
Irked and off until next Tuesday! We did irk all day. I actually spent half of it giving a hand to the project that I used to do full time. I foresee some more ACE points from the supe (she’s really good about handing them out when I teach her specialist or lead something or do something that’s needed. I wish she was my boss).
A joyous solstice to all who observe!
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Okay, this will be an odd post, a heads up for a movie on tomorrow.
If you have Turner Classic Movies A Carol For Another Christmas will show, at 1:00PM Central Standard Time. I have only seen it once, and want to see it again to try and figure out some things I didn’t understand the first time around.
As you may guess it’s a variation on the Dickens story, but one of the darkest and strangest. It was produced by Rod Serling but not part of The Twilight Zone show. I don’t want to spoil it, especially the ending, but let’s just say most other versions of the story have really happy endings. It’s been years since I’ve seen it, it’s not too well known. You will recognize a lot of the actors. Eva Marie Saint, Sterling Hayden, Steve Lawrence, Peter Sellers, Robert Shaw(he’s the ghost of Christmas yet to come) If you can’t see it in the afternoon, set to record, it’s very odd but worth watching…
I.m hosting Christmas dinner next Monday so today I’ve been doing more than the usual housecleaning. Tomorrow I’m having the carpet cleaned, so I haven’t vacuumed there. Of all chores I dislike sweeping, mopping, or anything to do with the floors. It’s worth the money to have professionals do it. Then I have to go out to get just a few more things for the dinner. After that comes sloth.
11:00 PST here. Thanks for the heads-up. I’ve set a recording.
It’s only the two of us, and the cats. No housecleaning, other than keeping the decks clear in the kitchen while I cook.
Evening all. Worked some more on the Mega-crossword (about 75% complete, just cross-referencing clues takes the most time) and got my 2,000 pedaling calories for the week completed, so celebrated by putting them all back on at once with a trip to 5 Guys (I go there only once a month, but when I do…). No regrets, no guilt, it was damn good and their fries should be classified as an addictive material by the FDA (IMHO. VMMV). Garbage can is empty and back in the garage, the recycle truck didn’t come by so I’ll leave it out tomorrow and see if they show. 45F outside but not planning on heading outdoors again.
nellie, hope you got the prescription.
Call Fred Sanford??
Cupcakes, may try to catch that movie, Rod Serling has a way with stories that are as fascinating as they are vaguely disturbing.
OK, need to finish assimilating dinner. Catch y’all on Firday.
Have you seen it before? If not let me know what you think after watching it.
I can’t remember seeing it before.
I’m going to stop posting about interviews that go well because I never end up hearing from them again. But I’m not discouraged - I’m still plugging away.
Today, however, is not about me. It’s about a pizza thief named Bob. I ordered a pizza last night. It wasn’t very good - I live in Oregon, there is no good pizza in here (I’d love to be proven wrong) - but I was planning on having the leftovers for lunch. I left it in the box on the stove when I went down stairs to do laundry and when I came back up … Bob was laying in his bed with his, “I fucked up,” look on his face and an empty pizza box on the kitchen floor. Like I said, the pizza kind of sucked, so I’m not sure if he did me a favor or not. I suppose the jury will remain out until we see how it looks coming out the other end. I can only imagine what pesto chicken and olives might turn into.
Hello all! It’s been a far busier week than I’d expected. I’ve read everything but didn’t retain much at all. But I know that there are needed hugs, yays and boos.
The kids are now officially done with their fall semester. They had their midterms Moanday through yesterday and the grades are already in. CtE did really well - the lowest exam grade they had was an 88 in AP Calc. The rest were all in the 90s. And it helped bring all their grades up to mostly Bs. They also turned in a big project for English that was very overdue. It was a Canterbury Tales telling of someone famous. They chose Andrew Wakefield so they could lambast him. I got an email from their teacher that morning saying how impressed she was with their work. I think they’re starting to get things turned around.
BtY, on the other hand, did well on some of his exams, not as good on others. But they did barely manage to pass all their classes. I’ve already told him they’re still be done serious changes next semester.
I had my PT on Moanday with a new PT. This one actually gave me some exercise bands and some exercises to do, which helps some. My hands are still killing me but a week from tomorrow, I’ll finally be getting my eval for them. Here’s hoping something will work there.
I’m half ready for Christmas. I have all of my gifts purchased and all of Hubby’s in bags. But my tree still isn’t up yet. The plan is for that to happen tomorrow. If I can get things rearranged. For whatever reason, I’m just not feeling it this year for some reason.
I got to spend time this morning with Partner. We’ve finally gotten through Matt Smith’s first series of Doctor Who as well as exchanging Christmas gifts. It was a nice, low-key key day that both of us needed.
I was supposed to have a date tonight with a guy that had expressed interest this summer then disappeared on me. He came back into my life and i decided that if give him a second chance. Shouldn’t have bothered. He blocked me without canceling or date or saying word one. In all honesty, it doesn’t bother me like it should. I expected something like it after the last 4 times he canceled.
Dad called yesterday. He’s back in the hospital. His nurse called the ambulance for him because his port is infected. He’s going to have to to go into a skilled nursing facility again until he’s better. He’s not happy but understands that’s the quickest way to get home. I’m not as worried as I was this time last year. But I’m also more ok with losing him if that’s what happens. One day at a time.
So for the most part, life is going well. Busy, as always but I’m feeling happy. Especially since I’ve found Scarecrow and Mrs King streaming so I can watch one of my favorite shows.
Game a great night, all!
Happy Thorsday!
Another cold morning, so no dog park.
We’ll try to go tomorrow as the dogs are getting naughty.
I got them some deer antlers and even after putting out 6 of them, all the dogs want the same one. It doesn’t matter which one, no one antler is better than the other, they want the same one.
Misiu is more of a lover than a fighter, but Rayleigh is starting to test Echo. They got into a little scrap, but as soon as I yelled, they stopped. My son came running and put the antlers up where the pups couldn’t get to them.
We saw Lily mom this morning when I picked my son up from irk. Echo was just beside herself with happiness, she loves Lily mom. Every time Lily mom tried to walk back into irk, she saw Echo’s face and had to come back and pet her some more.
It was good to catch up with her. She is always so busy we never have time to talk.
Re: my son’s schedule.
My son irks T-W-T, three twelve-hour days. Getting Thorsday the 28 and 4th have nothing to do with leave of any kind, Those are their holiday days off.
If he got today off, he would have had T-F-S-S-M with today as his paid day off to make up for the holiday being on a non-irking day. Instead, he will have F-S-S-M off and go in and irk T-W with Thorsday the 28th as his Christmas Day off. Then he will have T-F-S-S-M off, irk T-W, then have Thorsday the 4th as his New Year’s Day off.
It doesn’t make sense, and even his boss told him, it doesn’t make sense.
His boss thought they would get the 26th and 2nd off. Corporate had other ideas.
I found out today that I am going to be a great-great aunt in June. Niece2’s oldest son and gf are expecting. They are young, 21?
I hope they make it, they’ve been together 4-5 years.
FCM, has your sister had her Vitamin D levels checked? My friend, the one you met at Ram’s Head, had horrible leg pain and she was Vitamin D deficient.
Well, how 'bout that, sports fans? I got a $125 Amazon gift card from the company for new ‘contributing members’ (members who send monthly commercial credit accounts receivable files). I love monetary surprises!
Never heard of them before, but they do look very tasty and I have the recipe bookmarked. Thank you.
I have heard that from everyone who has gone and I really do wish I could experience it myself, but I know it won’t happen. We were once camping on the north rim, right by the edge of the cliff and I couldn’t get myself closer than maybe 10 feet to the edge and that with with me tied to the jeep and crawling belly to the ground. I might have been able to get closer if there had been guard rails, who knows. Phobias are aka unreasoning fear and there is no reasoning with mine.
Have a great flight and bring your umbrella!
Those are the best sort of days
A young male long-haired ginger cat showed up on our doorstep this morning. He got gooshy fud for dinner tonight because hubs is also a sucker. We both have a soft spot for long-haired gingers, so I’ve contacted all of the rescues in our area. The dynamic between VBC and GG is amazing, I don’t want to risk upsetting the balance by bringing another cat into the colony.
Happily, it is staying warm enough at night that hubs won’t start fretting about kitty getting cold and we’ve never seen coyotes in our back yard so kitty should be pretty safe back there until he has a place.
I sure hope your sister’s pain gets sorted quickly. I’m watching hubs have lifestyle health issues and it is really hard to witness. He’s not happy and hurts all of the time, but he refuses to do any of the things that would probably make him feel better because most of those things involve moving his body and will hurt. Le sigh.
That’s the sort of thing I’d put up on Nextdoor. Single pieces we just drag to the street and they always go away before garbage day.
It’s open two days a year and we only live a day away which made it easier for me. There really isn’t anything to do or see at the actual memorial, it is just a stone marker with a plaque, but there sure were a whole bunch of feelings and thinkings involved with the visit.
I’ve been in the Skywalk parking lot five times. It’s nice. It is surrounded by bird filled trees and has a very sturdy looking fence along the cliff edge. The restrooms are clean and the food prices aren’t that outrageous when you remember that everything had to be transported quite a distance.
When I retired, I thought I would instantly go into swampy levels of sloth. I was seriously upset when I realized that I was so wrong. Retirement shouldn’t be so much work, dangnabit!
Like any product, it depends on quality. I’d buy them for tips, many folks out this way get super happy if you give them a pre-roll for doing a good job. I’d also buy them to take to parties because COVID stopped most of the passing of the joint amongst my group of friends. It’s not as social, but AZ has higher than average rates of COVID, influenza and RSV this winter so I’ll just hand joints out and smoke my own because I hate being sick.
My stoopid baby trees are starting to bud out already. Gaia best give me some winter, damnit!!!
Indeed. I’m going to try to find it as well.
I just don’t get it. I see “help wanted” signs everywhere I go, I hear of employers and political know-it-alls whining about nobody wanting to work anymore and then I hear from super well qualified folks like you having problems finding work.
I’m sorry you can’t get good pizza, but bad Bob for stealing your lunch. That is one advantage of cats over dogs, if a cat isn’t taught young that something is food, they will starve to death next to a full bowl of the not-food. We had to teach The Best Cat in the World that bacon was food and I thought that was instinctive!
I’m happy you are able to stop in, I always worry a little when we don’t hear from you in a while.
It’s so good that your younglings are doing so well considering how hard this year has been on them. I’m glad you’ve been able to get some time for yourself as well.
If they made it past the second year without killing each other…they are probably good.
Oh yeah! Any time is good, this time of the year is better!
We took our Christmas angel gifts to the fire station and somebody noticed that there were still four cards left. He tried to pawn the little girl off on me, but that was a big nope on my part. The wish list was pretty clear, I’m sure he will do a good job.
The flameless candles I ordered came today and I’m really impressed. They certainly aren’t the ones Grandma had on the windowsill and probably cost less considering everything. Grandma’s candles were glass and metal and not to be touched because they were so expensive and fragile. These are wax coated with LED flames that flicker and cost less than three bucks each. Sometimes us humans get things right
Today was Tai Chi and the weekly exchanging of food and coffee between NF and I. When we first met, I was needing someone to take some of the surplus produce because TC friend had started getting her own boxes. NF liked getting the food but felt she should do something for me because of course I refused to take money for it. Instead she started bringing coffee from the good place for me. (I am so happy that place is half an hour away, I would never sleep again if it was close enough to walk to after dark.)
NF has family coming and won’t be at TC for a couple of weeks and I just now realized that we haven’t discussed her share of my box. Dangit. Somebody remind me to text NF tomorrow, I don’t want to bother her this late tonight.
Well … shit.
I missed this part. Yay, did you get your drugs?
Sure!
The very cheapest I’ve ever seen is around $1.50 for a 1-g preroll, and while they’re not the highest strength, the place cannot keep them in stock.
(I should know; they’re the closest to me so I ask about them every time. Sometimes I get lucky.)
Oh, I would’ve totally missed this! Thank you!!
D’awwww.
That’s friggin’ awesome! Please tell them some weirdo stranger on the Internet said so. (But maybe phrase it less weird.)
I’d totally read this.
So … don’t? Save your strength, and what’s left of your hands. Nobody will arrest you if you don’t put up a tree; trust me, I know - I didn’t put mine up last year and the world continued its orbit.
Or make the kids do it.
Wow! Neat!
Mazel tov to the kids.
Oh, that was one I picked almost at random. A lot of recipes call for ground pork, but I’ve only ever had them with ground beef.
The key is the soaked bread (either water or milk), the minced onion, and the breadcrumb exterior for texture contrast, and they’re made much thicker than hamburger patties. (And not eaten on a bun for the same reason. This is a knife’n’fork situation.)
Oh, I bet he’s handsome!
Speaking of the kotlety I had a mishap last night.
In my pantry are two Meijer-branded paper bags, one for sugar and one for flour.
I wanted to add some flour to the exterior of some of them - I made a lot, and ran outta breadcrumbs (although Stove Top makes a decent substitute!) and, well … I wasn’t wearing my glasses and may or may not have had a few.
You can probably guess where this is going.
So 1 a.m. I’m standing at the kitchen sink washing balls of ground beef, just so friggin’ irritated with myself.
I cooked them today and they were just fine, so I guess ai successfully rinsed all the damn sugar off them.
I think I just quit my job. Again. Like, the same job I quit this time last year but they dragged me back in, made a lot of empty promises, and then abused and ridiculed me all year. Well today I got the brunt of it for something I didn’t even do, yelled and sworn at, insulted in front of everybody, so I just walked out.
I bet I’m the only Mumper who’s still up. My flight to Spokane was supposed to leave at 11:00 PM. It got delayed and delayed again, so now I get in at 2 a.m… told my daughter to go to bed.
Apparently the fog is screwing up everything. An earlier flight from here to Spokane had to turn back due to fog, and somehow they booked those people on my flight, so there were 20 more people than seats. We had to switch gates en masse from one concourse to another, as they apparently tgot a bigger plane.
On the trek over here, the escalator was broken. I had to try 5 bathroom stalls to find one that had TP AND a lock AND a flushed toilet. Are these omens? I hope not. I do not want to end up on an episode of Mayday.
The cabin crew just arrived. We gave them a round of applause. A pilot but not our pilot seems iffy on whether we’ll make it to Spokane. Visibility is only 800 feet. They’re trying to figure out whether they have to cancel the flight.
I am learning to hate fog.
Oh! The plane arrived, but there may be an issue, the not-our-pilot said, as there are a lot of trucks down there. Boy, I could really use OUR pilot right now…not that I’d wish this on such a good guy.
Sari, congratulations! That is SO cool! I’m not even going to get to be a grandmother, so I’m VERY impressed that you get to be a great-great-grandmother! (Do I have the right number of “greats”?) Yay for new babies!
shoe, yes, I got my meds.
I haven’t been as tuned in to everyone as I should be. I’ll do better tomorrow.
