(Old) Wrapping up Feb in the MMP

I did the same, only disbursement of money was to Kroger for groceries and gas. And I stayed off all social media yesterday so Zuckerberberg et all didn’t get revenue from clicks.

The Screwup Fairy took the weekend off, so I was out by 11. Load of laundry is washed, and in the dryer. I’m having my bacon, eggs, and gin&tonic before naptime.

I  you

Judging my my reduced hours next week, it’s having a non-governmental effect as well. And feel free to rant, pretty much every non billionare Mumper is gonna feel it, too.

A Sound Of Thunder was only off by 30 years.

peedin wrote, “Julia Child was a really good cook, didn’t she teach herself how to cook while she was in the Navy? I think I remember something about that, but it is late and I’m kinda stoned.”
Not exactly. She was in the OSS during WW 2, where she went to work in the kitchen to find a new shark repellant to keep sharks from blowing up anti-submarine mines. It worked, and they still use it today. After the war, she learned how to be a chef at Cordon Bleu in 1951, in Paris. Interesting bio in Wikipedia. The OSS was later renamed the CIA.
BBBoo wrote, “Not that much of a sacrifice for me, the capital is literally a mile down the street from me and I have a handicapped tag so parking is usually not that bad. Hauling my heavy portable oxygen concentrator is the worst of it. I might try to find a good sign to hold by then. This today at the White House was the last straw, the disgraceful disrespect to Zelenskyy. I hung my US flag upside down in the code for ‘distress’ in my big picture window in the front of the house.”
You go, BBBoo! I’ll be writing our Congressfools later today. It wouldn’t do any good to write to Trunk; he never reads anything.
The purses Mrs. Nott sells on Poshmark are not something she made. She buys and sells designer purses and jewelry, mostly at a profit.
My nephew is a 4H supervisor/coordinator/whatever for the county, but it comes down to getting paid by Purdue U., which is a State school, but also a Land Grant Act school. That means some of their funding is from the USDA. So, my nephew is sweating bullets over the histrionics in the White House from the prez and the jerk on the other end of his leash.

Please make sure to include some from me, for her and for other horses who’d like some attention.

I don’t recall being asked about that when I was talking to the medical types about Shingrix a few years back (if I’m informed correctly, I did have chickenpox at about age 4. I don’t remember it). They and I just agreed it was a good idea and got it done. Hopefully, I remember correctly that once I did both doses, I’m done with that for good, considering how hard it kicked my rear (especially the second dose).

Goes without saying… :kissing_heart:

FCD has a hankerin’ for pizza, so I’ll order and he’ll fetch. And for what was supposed to be a mild day, it’s a tad nippy out - mostly, I think, because of the wind. I just moseyed down to the mailbox - nothing. Even when we get something it’s mostly nothing. More often than not, I drop everything in the recycle bin on my way back from the mailbox.

Speaking of nippy, I just took a look at the weather site - we’ll drop into the 20s again for the next 3 nights. So that should be fun.

Time to rake up some leaves and toss them over the daffodil shoots peeking through?

Howdy Y’all! We have shiny (HA! I am such a comedian!) new lights in the hallway and on the back porch. I have a cooked and shredded < snerk > BUTT! < snerk > that will just need to be reheated tomorrow mornin’. We achieved nappage and warded off scurvy and malaria twice.

Oopsie sorry about the furlough. Hopefully you’ll have a new position within your organization soonest. Glad you have some Lego therapy in the meantime.

11F when I got up at about 0730 this morning, which is quite a drop from recent temps. Supposed to zoom back up to 50 tomorrow or Monday.

I may have talked the wife out of going to the Shakespeare play tomorrow. I had to remind her that there are five (FIVE!) (V!) (CINCO!) viruses out there and that anyplace where people gather is problematic, even if vaccinated. Dunno if it’s sunk in.

Tonight is lamb chops (now marinating), saffron rice with toasted almonds and golden raisins (now steaming) and steamed broccoli. Feeling a bit more ambitious in the dinner cooking mode of late. I’m thinking jambalaya for Mardi Gras.

Had a very short (20 minute) concert of violin and cello playing Bach this morning. They were playing instruments made in the 1700s, and were very good at their craft. They’re doing short concerts in a variety of venues to promote the Bach Society’s more lengthy concerts.

Some time later. . .I burned the crap out of my hand when I grabbed the frying pan that had been in a 450 oven to cook the chops. Stupid. No blistering, but the fingers are pretty tender. I immediately doused them with cold water.

Oopsie That truly sucks. I hope that someone comes to their senses soon. I have fears that my new job at the museum will be impacted by this, they (I guess I should start saying we) get much of the budget from grant money.

cookie Ouch!! Can’t say I’ve never done that myself.

Worked on the tugboat today. Annoying near the floor bits. I’m getting too old to be crawling around on the floor with a paint brush.

I went for a short (4.3 miles) ride on the R1, got home, and was told, ‘Before you take your helmet off…’ She’s making some manicotti, and wanted me to go down to the corner market for some sauce. Got home and ordered my dinner: Meatballs, hot wings, and a Greek salad. Then she looked at her computer. We’re supposed to go to dinner at the pastor’s wife’s parents’ house tonight. So she’s making cornbread to take over. It’s only 15 o’clock, so we’ll be here when my delivery comes. (And I’ll have a shower.)

Went to the barn but first stopped at the feed store. My days of carrying a 50 pound bag of grain are past so Trevor unloaded and took it to the grain bin. Eventually, I found a text from my instructor that asked if we could do my lesson tomorrow since I was the only one she had today. And that was fine with me. I was going to be home by 1 o’clock so I could sit around and be miserable. I left the barn at 4:30. Some redheaded young lady was in a mood so she just got pets and a few little treats. She does not like her blanket being changed and she snapped at me a few times, so she got THE LOOK and a talking to.

I decided that for Lent I am giving up doomscrolling. Of course I will still be here because this is where my peeps are. I will try to be in a better frame of mind.

**Ooopsie ** I am sorry about your job.

oopsy I’m not going to go on a rant here but I would like to on behalf of you and everyone who is directly and indirectly affected by the mass crazyness going on in DC. I’m still back on post 202 so I don’t know if you received any answer subsequently. I’m so sorry for you and your colleagues for having to deal with this sh…, er stress! Hugs to you and tater :people_hugging: :people_hugging:
Great shirt for a MardiGras party; brought a smile to my face.

small steps, a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.

I’ve marked all of these on our main calendar.

Unless Kroger does something different down in Bama, your February points won’t expire until March 31. You can only redeem 1000 points at a time or $1/gallon. So, if you had any January points remaining, they expired on Feb 28. So, with your February points, you can have 2 gasups during March at $1/gallon discount, as long as Bama Kroger does things the same way that Mitten Kroger does.

Pre-Felon or pre-South African man. All bets are off now.

Oops, ninja’d by JtC. I think we’re of like minds in this regard.
A friend texted that Bernie is going to have a rally in SE Mitten next Saturday. I want to go and have asked daughter and her girlfriend to go as well. It’s closer to them.

This 1000%. If anybody thinks that was anything close to Presidential or Vice Presidential or diplomatic behavior, bad words, bad words, bad words. I have to steel myself to keep from crying.

:raised_hand:

Well, only up to post 213 but it’s getting late to take Bella for a walk. I’ll be back later.

Correction: One of the church guitarists and his (singer) wife’s house.

Anyway, I’ve eaten my Greek salad and the hot wings.

Hey everyone, it is the first of the month. Change your HVAC filters.

That must be bittersweet. Sad that the company is gone, sweet that J was able to enjoy the fruits of his work. I’m glad you all found each other, it sounds like it worked out all the way around.

Yeah. Sigh. A thirty-something man in a lifted truck threw a bucket of blood at us today. Missed me but got a couple of other people.

You are the only reason I’m regretting firing amazon. I’m still ordering online but most of the free shipping I get is USPS ground. Amazon usually used UPS. So I am sorry and if you give me your address, I will send you a bottle of mead to make up for it.

I think it means they like you

I overheard one of the waitresses yesterday saying something about how much busier they were than usual for a Friday afternoon. Perhaps it is catching on. Be a hero, warn management that it will probably be slammed on 4/18 as well.

I hope.

Yeah but fierce killing machines are NOT adorable and I don’t want doggio to get hurt by saying anything different!

Please be very careful, you are getting to the age where you won’t bounce back like you did when you were a teenager. Gentle stretches and heat probably won’t hurt.

You have no idea how much I appreciate knowing this.

Hubs got one as well. Seeing as how we just used our EZpass and saw that it had worked properly (plus the tolls are never weird numbers like that), he said that they knew his pass number, they could figure it out from there.

That is very kind of you. It is all very self serving on my part, if medicaid gets cut, children won’t get health care and will grow up sickly. If food stamps go away, children will go to bed hungry. Hungry, sick children do not learn well and do not grow up to be productive members of society who will help pay for my social security. (and thank Bast for giving me the financial sense to not have children of my own.)

This is good to know, I was afraid that the king had forbidden such a thing. I remember back when I got RIF in 2008, the state wouldn’t give any of us recommendation letters and it was really hard to get them to verify my term dates for UI.

Do you really think anyone is reading them or is it just more harassment? At this point, I’d just make up a list of things I do every week and send them five every Monday. Your boss already knows what you do and how valuable you are.

You are the reason I keep going. I won’t quit before you.

:people_hugging:

Had it been suitable, I’ve found that the Food Lion meat guy will cut a big piece in half if asked.

You should go. Let the work take your mind of things for a few minutes. The shitshow will still be there when you are done.

I’ll remind the day before. Death by a thousand cuts is still death.

We went to Vlad’s castle during the day. Between the sun and the hoards of stinky boys running around, my Dark Prince didn’t swoop me off but I’m quite sure that it would have happened if I had been allowed to go after dark.

I was there while Romania was a communist country with armed soldiers patrolling the city. Many of the people still wore the traditional garb and everyone wanted to touch my white blond hair.

I had a translator involved “dinner date” with an Olympic wrestler because he saw me in the group and convinced his handler to arrange it. My chaperone was highly outraged, so our dinner involved the two of us sitting across the table from each other in a dusty, empty dining room with my chaperone, his chaperone, two “waiters” and a translator.

This happened before my floozy days, but even if we both were highly motivated and could speak the same language, I don’t think we could have managed more than just the handshake we were allowed at the end of dinner.

It was indeed a very beautiful country.

I will go with you as long as I can bring the fuzzbutts.

FUCK!!!

I am so sorry. I’m also fairly sure that you can get UI if this continues past your PTO. File now and keep filing weekly. Apply for food stamps as well. You have paid into the safety net for years, it is going down now, you might as well get as much back as possible.

That sounds perfect or horrible depending on how bad it is. I do like being able to fix things for people but sometimes it is not as relaxing as it could be.

I hope she makes you feel a little better. Good on you for cleaning out your spice cabinet, I do a whole lot of stress cleaning as well. The fuzzbutts are very well brushed too.

You are the best grandma evah! A car wash and then a burger, what else would a kid that age want?!?

Well, that certainly sucks. I really do hope he is able to keep his job, things are looking quite bleak now. It’s not going to take 54 days.

Thank you, that makes so much sense!

That’s right, that’s what I was remembering. I guess I thought Navy because sharks were involved. I have always lusted for a pan wall like her husband made for her, how awesome would that be?

Do it often, like daily. They don’t really read anything they get, but someone tabulates the letters. More “Protect Medicaid” emails they get, the more marks in the Protect Medicaid column they see.

If we lose Medicaid, we will lose our entire health care system. At least 40% of the American population is on Medicaid, when the health system loses that money - most of which comes from the sickest people who need the most treatment - hospitals will close and doctors will retire.

Well, in that case, hurray for money and I hope she sells many more!

The USDA not only inspects meat packing plants, it also funds food stamps. Grocery stores depend on food stamps and order accordingly. When they are gone, things will not be great.

It was 54 when I got up (late) and the temp kept dropping during the day. It is currently 35F.

In better news, the boil water advisory is over. I changed out the filters in the R/O system and dumped the ice out of the maker to be sure that all of the nasties were gone so life is good on that front again.

Oh man, I stinking hate it when I do that. So stupid and we KNOW better. I’ll bet that’s why you didn’t blister, your body started saying NONONONO before you even got a good hold on the handle.

Yeah, this whole getting old thing just sucks doesn’t it?

I only allow myself enough news to know what is going on. I did not watch yesterday’s travesty, I learned all I needed to know second hand. Instead of doomscrolling, write your congresscritters. Compliment and encourage the ones who are trying and lambast the rest of them.
[/spoiler]

Here’s hoping its not too late.

Oh, I hope you do go. I’ve always been a fan of his.

Even without the drama about my winning the state competition, I really hated it. They came in a separate bundle and the colored ink just smeared all over my hands and clothes while I was rolling everything up and banding them.

I loved them because they were such a good selling point for subscribers. Folks back then thought they were good Sunday morning reading.

Have a good walk, be careful on the sidewalk, ice can be sneaky at times.

So I called the needlepoint store and had a very nice chat with one of the volunteers I’ve met in person. She says that there has been no rain this winter and that it is already in the high 80’s. Of course, that is in Phx and concrete jungles are always hotter than the country side, but it is too early for it to be getting that hot.

She seemed really happy when I told her about how much Reddit needlepointers loved their store and it wouldn’t surprise me if she went online to read some of the comments herself. She called back a few hours later to tell me that she had all of my stuff packed up to go out in the mail tomorrow, so hurray for a new kit!

That reminds me…yesterday we stopped at a not-chain Convenience Store for a rest stop. While looking for a snack (to pay for the restroom use) I thought I was in a magazine set. Everything was faced and spaced and done so well that even all of the package lettering was even all the way down the stacks.

I marched right up to the counter and told the man that whoever was in charge of taking care of the shelves was doing a wonderful job and that it looked amazing. He looked super happy and said thank you and I swear he was standing up straighter when we left.

And good evening all. Dinner has been dined upon (Fettuccine Alfredo with a banana and two pudding cups for dessert). Spent a couple hours out at the soccer field helping keep 25+ 10-11 year old boys more or less in order. Was nice enough but the wind was blowing about 20-25mph with made the 62F temperature feel much cooler. Then stopped at the gym and did 600 calories worth of exercise, so had a busy afternoon. Now indoors and not planning on anything more strenuous than internettin’ and reading. Have some Logan’s Roadhouse meatloaf to look forward too on Sunday.

No charge.

oopsie, :scream: :people_hugging: Also a few choice words. All my best to you and yours. Have some fun with the Lego’s and couldn’t we use a Bruce Wayne about now… And yes, spend time with your friends.

No IPass or EZPass scams here (yet); have gotten several calls about selling my property (except they never get the right location).

I had the full spectrum of kid diseases; Mumps, measles, rubella, chickenpox, that was growing up before the vaccines got going good.

cookie.,OUCH! on the burned hand.

flyboy, eat well (ETA: see your off to a good start…)

Cat Glove, They let me redeem as many points as I want to down here, and since I usually only fill the tank once a month, best to use them all now rather than hold them for later.

Hey, thanks for the reminder! I’ll do it right after this posting.

And that’s all for now (I tried to respond to JtC but she says so much I can’t keep it all in my head…but good job on the compliment). Take care.

If you’ve never had chicken pox, you can’t get shingles. However, you can still get chicken pox. Not something I want to do at 62. :stuck_out_tongue: ETA: ninja’d by BBBoo.

:people_hugging: I’m so sorry, oopsie.

Same here. Small dog warnings and all.

Ouch! Do you have any Solarcaine or other burn cream?

The next time I decide to do a MP buy in Brentwood, would somebody slap the fire out of me and take my keys? While I got my money’s worth, I think GoogleMaps was drinking on the job because it took me on what would have been a lovely country drive with my dog and made it a PITA.

Just finished a new recipe for supper: ground turkey qusadilla with corn, tomatoes and green onions. Enjoyed it.

I’m sorry to hear everyone’s bad news about the orange terror and the effect it’s having on everyone down south. I’ve been avoiding talking about it too much from our northern perspective, because I enjoy the chats here about daily life, but it reaches a point where it’s just not possible to ignore.

The orange one had deferred the tariffs on Canada from February 1 to today, and said earlier this week that “yup, March 1, I whack Canada.” Then at the last minute, it’s now April 1. The newspapers say there’s a lot of Canadian lobbying going on, not just of the orange one, but of the American industries who will take a hit if their Canadian goods suddenly jump in price in their supply chain, and urging them to lobby in Washington as well. Who knows.

Best wishes, all.

Politics are usually not welcome here, this is usually a very safe place. I am sorry that things are now so bad that they really are part of our daily lives.

Please do know that all of us sane mericans love you guys and while we don’t want you to be our 51st state, most of us would be pretty happy if if you would take us over. UHC would be so wonderful.

WV is well known for its coal. We live by a train track that is used only to move coal from the mine to the shipping yards and empty cars back. Most of the coal is exported and now has tariffs or threatened tariffs so the buyers are signing contracts elsewhere. This is affecting my daily life because we are waking up at night because the 0200 train isn’t rumbling by.

In other news, Hubs has fallen in love with a dog. An old blind dog who’s owner died first.

Our home is all one level, no steps for a blind dog to fall down and blind dogs don’t chase cats. Blind critters don’t run at all, we have had several over the years. Blind cats are super easy. We have never had a blind dog before so some research must be done first. Plus the rescue is properly demanding that we have a gate to keep dog from wandering out onto the highway.

I like dogs, I think they are sweet and all, but I really do hope that someone who has actually owned a dog in the last 30 years adopts old dog before we can get a gate built and installed.

And now Jolene just got offended by something GG did and got under him and bit him where he used to have balls. An old dog wouldn’t understand living with a couple of Warner Brothers tasmanian devils going at it on a regular basis.

What about hubs? Or is this your way of telling us hubs has a fuzzy butt?

And after doing that, get every preventative screening and checkup remotely possible while you still have insurance. Mammogram, bone density, colonoscopy, dental cleaning, etc.

Just reading this made me snort laugh out loud! I can just oicture those two. Moxie is a little miffed at the snort laugh disturbing her purring slumber-she was perched on my collarbone-I can barely peer over her to read, much less type-I hope she doesn’t lodge a complaint about me to the Supreme Union of Cats. Thanks for the laugh endorphins and dopamine hit. Tell GG and Jolene thanks too.
