(Old) Wrapping up Feb in the MMP

Second month of 2025 is just about used up - not sure where it went, but so it goes.

Days are getting longer here in the northern hemisphere, so there’s that.

Happy Moanday!!

First! It’s good to be juvenile!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and mostly caffeinated. ‘Tis 47 Amurrkin out and rainy with a predicted high of 64 and cloudy. Rain should go away within the hour or so. We shall be a bit productive and go through and tidy up stuff in various drawers in the bedroom. There is much disarray. Then, we will strive to regain any lost RDOS cred. Sup shall be beastloaf, cabbage, mac &cheese and rolls. We shall eat well!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward to bein’ productive! Rah.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

Oh, yeah, I lied in the last MMP, sorta. I mentioned my dad sold grandparents’ house for under $6K. Well, it was waaaaaay under. My mom told me it was $2800, and that was split 4 ways among Dad and his 3 sisters. Even in the early 60s, that wasn’t much.

OK, I’ll let someone else post now. FCD is about to leave for the dentist.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s currently 11c/52f with no predicted change, and showers. Weather app says “Your day will be filled with fuckpuddles.” Sounds quite rude, doesn’t it? It also tells me that sunrise was 7.05am today and sunset will be 5.38pm so we’re almost at the point where it’s still light when I come home from irk.

Talking of irk, my GP’s note runs out this week so I should be returning to irk on Thursday which is also a campus day so I will need to prepare for that. I’ve spent most of the last couple of weeks doing very little in order to rest my shoulder but today I was feeling fat, frumpy and a bit low, so I dropped 'im indoors off near the station and then went to the gym for a while.

I burned around 60 cals on the treadmill in a short space of time, then went to see if the 9.30am barbell hustle class was on. It wasn’t, and by the time I’d checked, the treadmill had lost all record of what I’d done. I did an hour on the pushme-pullyou instead, and clocked up a respectable 656 cals in an hour.

Stopped off for petrol on the way home, and then had a shower when I got in. I’ve had some tea, the cats and I have had lunch, and I’m just about to go and do the grocery shopping next. Then I can have a bit of slothage this afternoon before I must bestir myself again to make something for dinner.

Good morning.

It’s Monday and I am down in Oly town waiting for Haggen to open. I have about eight minutes.

After picking up my breakfast and lunch, I’ll drive to my office which is a mere 60 seconds away.

I’ll make my coffee, and start the next workday in hell.

Morning all

Got home late last night and got up far too early this morning, but such is the way of things. Visit with Texas friend went well, we went and saw a couple of Disney exhibits at the museum there (Mrs Sario loves all things Disney).

Due to missing most of last week at irk, this week will involve getting everything finished before the end of the month on Friday.

Anyway, time for another cup of coffee and gettin on with it.

Good visit with the daughter yesterday. I made her pancakes, which was sugar overload for me, so I needed a nap after she left. Made a trip to the grocery and on the way spotted a rafter of six turkey hens in the neighborhood. I have to wonder where they hole up during the really cold days like we’ve been having. It’s 39F this morning and headed towards 50 by day’s end; a nice change from all the sub-zero weather.

Sadie actually came out and took a look at my daughter. That’s a first for her, as she usually hides from visitors. Speaking of whom, I think we need to take her to the vet to check out her runny eyes, one of which seems fairly raw. Never a fun ordeal, of course.

Ursala just downloaded, and is doing the post delivery kitty krazies .

Daughter and SIL both worked at Disney World when they lived in Orlando. They loved the place. I don’t know if you could pay me enough to go there. I do rather hate all things associated with The Mouse, mainly because I consider the whole enterprise a major cash grab. I know businesses exist to make money, but how much money is enough? Seriously…

Back from Food Lion - not a big shop, but I did remember the main thing I went there for, so it’s a win. Temps heading to the 50s today - I’m thinking I may go cut down a couple of stray trees that have been making themselves at home on the hill where I don’t want them. That’s as far as my though process has progressed.

Along the way, I saw one of the Amish farms advertising chickens for sale. I expect there are those who seek to avoid the cost of eggs by raising their own. But I have to wonder…

Once you buy the chickens, buy/construct a place for them to live (safe from wandering wildlife), feed them, clean up after them, take them to the vet (I assume that’s occasionally required) - well, how long till your dozen eggs come down where you’re happy again? I don’t know - but I looked it up here:

Now let’s try to answer the big question: Are backyard chickens really worth it?

Let’s look at the breakdown:

Chicken coop: $500
Egg-laying hens (purchase): $60
Food: $20/month.
Chicken-related “extras”: $10/month (This includes things like wood chips, repairs to the coop and water bottles).

So, to start up, you’re looking at $590, with ongoing costs of roughly $25/month. Of course, this doesn’t include vet bills, which would likely come up at some point.

And, of course, the more chickens you have, the higher the costs and the more work. And I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t spend $25/month for eggs, even at the prices today But whatevs…

OK, gotta get something done, I guess.

Morning all. It’s 42F heading for the mid-60’s so like swampy I’ll enjoy an early start to spring (I hope). The usual shopping/sammich/swimming/sauna are on the agenda for today and for the evening hamburger I might try Arby’s for a change, since they now feature burgers.

boo fae, I tend to alternate between the treadmill, pedal bike, and reclining bike, with either 20 or 25 minute sessions on each. Tried the push-me-pull-you once or twice and almost hrt myself, just couldn’t get in rhythm with it.

{{Taters}}, hang in there, work has got to settle down soon (doesn’t it?).

Cookie, sounds like Sadie is slowly getting her level of trust back, it’s there pretty much for you two and is slowly being extended to daughter.

FCM, haven’t been to Disney/Epcot in probably 30 years or so, just too damn expensive even for me, I have no idea how families manage it. And please don’t confuse some possibly new chicken ranchers with facts now…

OK, had a couple of bananas to tide me over, in an huur or so I’ll head off to the Kroger and then Jersey Mikes for edibles. Take care all.

I would like to have chickens but they would be pets and they don’t live long enough. Geese would probably be better but Hubs has that silly phobia.

It is a nice day, the sun is out and the wind is not blowing. I’m catching up with the news before heading to the capital.

Hubs is getting the new switch installed in hi scar today. The price of the part went up almost 400 since the first of the year.

Thank you.

Did you/are you going to respond to the email about your accomplishments last week?
Really don’t know what I would do if I was a federal worker. I think the federal workers are between a rock and a hard place.
All I can do is send :people_hugging:

Thank you.

It’s 38* and set to go up to 47*, downright balmy. :slightly_smiling_face:

Have you ever tried a NuStep?

Was due to go into the office today but after a text from Manager, I’m going in tomorrow instead. So, dishwashing, laundry, NuStep and a walk are on the agenda.

On Instagram cutesnoopy said “Today… I’m Just Going To Take Time To Live, Laugh, & Love. Bee Happy” Not bad advice.

My biggest remainder from last week’s illness is now very, very weak hands. So, not much to say except, “Good Morning!”

I’m working on the boat today, and waiting for the windshield guy to arrive to put a new one in the car.

Note to self, turn your jeans pockets inside out when doing laundry. The sawdust doesn’t come out in the washer if you don’t do that. And phones don’t really like sitting in a pocket full of sawdust.

JtC I applaud you for going to express displeasure.

Stay safe and happy, all! May this week be better than the last one.

Oh, I have definitely spent over forty a hunnert bucks, sweated over unloading allllll the bags to my car, hauled everything into the house, put it all away … and realized I forgot the toothpaste I needed!!

The thing I went to the store to obtain!!

They’ve expanded their product line?

I’d volunteer to open jars 'n stuff for ya, but … I take those to work and make puppy eyes until someone opens them for me.

Your washer probably doesn’t like pocketfuls of sawdust, either.

Can you turn your pockets out, while still wearing the pants & standing outside, and then doing :musical_note: the hokey pokey and shakin’ it all about?

Try putting it in rice next time?

/s

Yeah - I do that sort of thing way too often - especially when the store is crowded and I can’t make leisurely trips down each aisle, looking for something to jog my memory. But Food Lion was fairly empty this morning and as I walked past the cheese display, I remembered garden veggie cream cheese - GO ME!!!

I also needed ground cloves, but McCormick’s in the little plastic container was something like $113/# (I think the container was just under $7.) But a little further on were the organic spices in big glass bottles. Ground cloves were $5-something with an equivalent unit price of $30-some per pound - like a quarter of the price! Guess which one I bought!

I just finished rasslin’ with our budget after remembering a couple of big bills in the wings (including paying off our cruise.) We’ve been using FCD’s inheritance to pay for the boat work and I needed to be sure we have enough left. It’s not like his mom left us millions or even half a million, and we’ve already spent a chunk. But based on my calculations, we can cover what remains for the boat plus the 5 pending butt-kicking expenses and perhaps still have a little bit leftover. Which means we won’t have to touch our own savings account.

And while I had the spreadsheet out, I updated our monthly bills, since nothing stayed the same from 3 years ago. Some things went away, some were added, but in the end, the bottom line hasn’t changed much, which is a relief. I just want to hug our money guy because his advice has served us well. We’ll never be rich, but we should be able to avoid living in a refrigerator box under an overpass. Which is good, since this county doesn’t have any overpasses.

FCD has gone to Waldorf to yell at the guys who made the fuel hoses - they messed one up by installing the wrong end hardware. I’m glad he found it now instead of when we go to install it. Then I had to go to his office to find the invoice folder which he didn’t put away. It was sitting in a box instead of in the file rack. Sheesh. Anyway, he’s headed north, and after I have some lunch, I’ll look for my loppers and lop down the trees that offend me!

So far, a pretty good day.

take off your shirt while doing so, so the neighbor ladies can oogle the eye candy.

Well, received a text from daughter. Her girlfriend now is sick. Daughter told Hubs that she has intestinal pain this morning. So, she asked if I would go to store and get a few things then drop them off on porch. So, that’s where I’m off to now. The dishes can wait. :stuck_out_tongue:
I told her I would also be walking Bella. I’m not driving 16+ miles and not taking my precious grandog for a walk. Oh, I have to remember to bring the new treats.

We started at 0200 today to try to catch up on the work pile up from the snow. Good thing because we only had a couple extra people for 3x the usual Monday volume. I started in the Mez, got sent to the 100 Table, 100 Slide, 200 table, and then the 300 Slide. And since I had been the oly person in the Mez, work just piled up till they tossed it down to the 300 Slide. Considering the chaos, I’m surprised there wasn’t more Left in Building. Apart from the tires of course. When I was running the last couple of packages, I heard one of the drivers mocking the Supreme Shouting Officer in a high, mocking voice. I stopped at Teeter for a sack of potatoes, and an onion to wear on my belt because that was the fashion of the time I need a nap and an Old Fashioned.

Boy and how!

Spot occasionaly does that.

Here’s a question for one and all - How important is it for you to win at Solitaire? Or any other on-line game, for that matter.

I just uninstalled a solitaire game I’d been playing for ages because all of a sudden, I won every single game. I’m pretty sure statistically that’s ridiculously close to impossible. I replaced it with someone else’s version and all of a sudden, I’m winning maybe a quarter of the time, which seems more realistic. It does offer the option of or playing a winnable game, but I prefer random. What’s the point of playing anything of you always win?

Something I’ve noticed about other games I play (similar to Candy Crush) is if I lose a level and replay it, it’s, shall we say, more obliging. There are many more opportunities to make matches, and it’s rare for me to need more than one replay to advance. In fact, if I have to do a level more than about 4 or 5 times, I uninstall the game and find another. I don’t need the aggravation and I don’t care about scores - I just like to advance till I can’t.

And I most certainly don’t pay real money for the imaginary “gold” or “weapons” or whatever that they keep trying to get me to buy. But I guess there are people who do that. One game was offering a package of stuff for $20!!! My mind was boggled. They’re free games where one is very much like the next one, with a few minor exceptions, like graphics. I dunno…

OK, I’ve had a bowl of soup. I’ve got the ice maker making ice (duh!!) and as soon as I dump the next batch, I’ll grab my loppers and take care of the rogue pines. I think it’ll take longer to go from shed to hill and back again than it will to cut the stupid trees down. But it must be done, so do it I shall!! Then back before the icemaker overflows. Onward!!

I love it when cats do that - so dang entertaining, the little nutjobs.

I’m not sure how I would feel about getting a burger at Arby’s… it just seems odd to me. Let us know if it’s any good!

I am at home waiting for the handyman to show up. I’ve been cleaning the place up a bit in between work tasks - if he reports anything back to the landlady, I don’t want it to be that the house is a mess! I do hope he doesn’t show up very late in the afternoon. He’s not the fastest, and I always feel like I can’t relax or continue my usual evening activities when someone is at the house doing work.
