You wish. Just my standard #3 with chips and Diet Pepsi and thanks to my points the sammich was free.
Have eaten and shopped (I try to have a written list when I go shopping, but I always forget to put something on it…) and will head off to the swimmin’ place here in a little bit. Outdoor soccer will have it’s first event this Saturday, so not much of a break between indoors and outdoors.
FCM, I have spreadsheets for expenses going back for years, so far I’ve done good and my Edward Jones guy has been risk-adverse (as I prefer) and still done a pretty good job for me. And I’ve atabout 67% on my spider solitare ‘hard level’, which suits me.
52, will let you know. I try to vary my Moanday burgers with all the places around here, I think the local Arby’s offers thier burgers, but it’s a ‘we’ll see’. at least if they don’t Whataburger is only 1/2 mile down the road…
Not yet, but I may give it a try.
And nearing the noon hour, so need to finish the morning internetting and get the swimsuit out.
Treelets have been lopped - there were half a dozen, from teensy to on that had a trunk almost 2" in diameter. I also got to pick up a bottle, a can and a cup that passing skuzzballs felt they had to fling in my yard. The bottle especially was flang since it was halfway up the hill. Is it really that much of a burden to keep you drinking vessel in your vehicle till you get home? It’s especially fun when someone throws a glass bottle against the rocks edging the garden. Assholes.
Anyway, that’s done. Pellet stove has been de-ashed. FCD is back with the correct hose. Ice-making continues, and I’m about to assume the position on the recliner because I’ve earned it, dammit! I’ve got a chickie tit out to thaw - it will become something for supper - not sure what just yet. And I pulled a hunk of poke loin out to sous vide tomorrow. Planning ahead - yay me!!
I’ve never had a burger at Arby’s but their French Dip is pretty good. Not great, but good.
At just after noon, it’s 44F and “sunny,” or what passes for sunny here in the land of perma-cloud, and quite windy. I had an appoin-ament this morning at the allergy doc, or I would have been here sooner. I’m gulping coffee at the keyboard, and trying to remember what I was going to say. Mooom, I’m remembering a sign I once saw, “Easter bunnies, live or dressed.” Your calculations didn’t include having to kill your entire flock if some of them get bird flu, then incinerating their remains and spraying the coop and all the gear with disinfectant. Farming is a grim business, sometimes.
Our dishwasher has been doing some weird flashing, so Mrs. Nott ducksearched for an owner’s manual. Instead, she got to the mfr’s website. She says her phone has mind-melded with the dishwasher. (Cue ominous music!) So, after running the current batch of dishes, she’ll find out if that’s helpful or dangerous.
Not to mention possible night attacks by nocturnal predators. My guess is people imagine tossing a few birds in their back yard, throwing some feed around, and skipping out every morning to gather omelet makings. Sure, that’s how it works on TV, right?
And just hush about dishwashers. Ours is 20+ years old and it occasionally makes ominous noises. I don’t need to be replacing it now. Then again, if it dies, we can always go back to pioneer days and wash our dishes by hand till we get a replacement. With just 2 of us, it sometimes takes 4 days to get a full load, so it’s not like we have a lot of dirties every day.
I’ve spent a few weeks trying to limit my time online, so I’ve missed absolutely everything here. I hope all are well, but I know if I try to catch up, I’ll wander away before getting current!
FCM, I deleted my solitaire app in frustration a couple of weeks ago because it kept serving up an ad that wouldn’t close. Now, if course, I can’t find another one I like.
I’m going to be driving up to Michigan to spend a month with my daughter and SIL, acting as a live-in nanny for the baby! I have two weeks to find and buy a good used car for them, replace my phone (it’s getting hard to charge and generally acting squirrely), make sure I have appropriate clothing for that amount of time in the frozen north, and get my yard in shape for spring, since that’ll happen here while I’m away.
The baby is getting cuter and more personable by the day, so I’m trying to concente on that rather than stress about how everything’s going to work out. It’s an adventure, right?
Okay, I didn’t want to start a thread just for this, and a lot of you are pet owners, so here’s hoping for recommendations. We’re in desperate need of a pet hair roller (lint roller). I went to Amazon and, as usual, reviews are all over the place, from best thing ever to giant piece of crap. Some of you must have a go-to brand that does the job, right? RIGHT?
There was a movie (Gummo?) with a similar sign.
Bunnies, or Rabbit
Pets, or Meat
Income tax folks sez, my stuff goes out “in the next batch” and I will know more (am I living off ramen? Refund or holy @$% bill?) within a couple of days, definitely within a week.
For your clothing? Or something more heavy duty?
Cuz for clothing, it’s usually just a fancy version of masking tape, rolled in a swirl … I’ve seen them at the Dollar Sto’ and those work fine.

Happy Doperversary, Metal Mouse!
Welp, I completely spaced about it being Monday and there being a new thread and I posted in the old MMP a little while ago! I’ve never done that before. I think being off work two days last week plus being away the weekend before this one has really messed up my sense of what day of the week it is. I’m not even sure what day I think it is! And this month is only 2 days “short,” but it’s messing with my head that Saturday will be March already. At least we’re in for an early Spring over the next few days (highs in the low 60s).
Here’s the little Lego dog sled set that I assembled yesterday:
Cute, right? I’ll keep it displayed until I need the space; then it will be stripped for parts.
(If you can’t make out the label on the front of the sled, it says “BRICKS 'N BREWS FEB 2025.” Bricks ‘n Brews is the name of my friends’ side business.)
Some leftovers from last week’s thread before diving into the current one:
If there are other people doing the same job with the same skills at the same level who perform just as well or better than her and have been there longer, they might be prioritized. But we don’t tend to do simply “last in/first out” cuts, if that helps at all (at least, in my part of the company). The direct report who has “senior” in his title and has been here for 3 years will be affected; the junior guy who’s been here for 8 months won’t be. Different jobs, contract needs, etc.
NSFW comment behind the blur:
In other words, you handled his nut sacks?
I’M SO SORRY…I HAD TO DO IT…I REALLY HAD NO CHOICE…I’LL SEE MYSELF OUT
Incredible. That’s a certain kind of evil right there.
Excellent!
I can get an actual one of those (not a mini Lego version): that’s what the free drink ticket is for.
I’m a contractor so I didn’t get that email – though some of my co-workers did – but this morning I saw an email directing people to not respond to it. (And some of my co-workers didn’t get that one. The distribution lists are a mess.) From what I hear, a lot of departments/agencies provided similar guidance.
Not important at all.
The only online games I play are Bejeweled, and Connections and Spelling Bee from The New York Times.
I don’t care about Bejeweled at all; it’s strictly a “killing time” thing.
Connections will bug me a little if I can’t eventually figure out all of the groups, but just fleetingly. If I tank it more than two days in a row I’ll start feeling kind of stupid, but only while I’m playing. Mostly I just get a little “yay” feeling when I get all four groups with no misses.
My goals for Spelling Bee are always just to (a) get at least one pangram (if there’s more than one) and (b) get to Genius. “Winning” would be getting to Queen Bee, which means finding all of the words. That hardly ever happens. If I don’t get the pangram/Genius, my feelings are similar to when I “lose” Connections (idle wondering whether my M.A. in English might have actually come from a Cracker Jack box).
Welcome back!
I like the Evercare brand, which I can sometimes find at the grocery store.
But, yeah, like shoe said: most of them will get the job done. I’ve used Scotch tape at the office (back in the day)!
I play the solitaire that comes up on Google. The problem is, it doesn’t shuffle well, or perhaps it shuffles too well. I wind up with 3 or 4 of the same suit in a sequence or 3 of the same card, so my rule is, I examine the initial spread and if it looks like the shuffle was too close to a stacked deck in sequence or it has two sets of the same card, I won’t play it and reshuffle.
I’ve been playing Block Blast, but this week I’m getting offensive sexist game ads that verge on soft core (of this sort: Young woman in tight clothes in office: “Oh, Boss! You startled me!” [Keep looking at her/Leave her alone]). There isn’t a way to indicate that I don’t want to see it or that it’s inappropriate.
I was good enough at computer Tetris in grad school that I played it as a meditation break between writing sections of my dissertation. Boring, yet soothing.
She’s an Analyst I, and I think one of the big reasons she got the job is that she’s willing to drive to Webster Field for work. St Inigoes is kinda out in the boonies. And apparently, she’s pretty good at the job - with 6 whole months under her belt, they had her training a new hire. Not sure what that means in the grand scheme of things - I know nothing about the contract she’s under.
He made the same comment… So both of you are apparently 11-y/o boys.
Supper was good - baked chickie, steamed rice, packet gravy (don’t judge!), green beans for me, fart blossoms for him. Dishwasher is washing. In a little bit, I’ll be heading downstairs to bike.
Tomorrow, we’re going to the boat to clear out stuff that needs to be trashed and set aside things that will go back in place after the new fuel tanks are installed. I also need to do some measurements for the weather cloths. The old ones that I wanted to use as patterns are stretched out of shape. We did measurements once, but it was raining, so we rushed, and the paper got all messed up. So boat stuff tomorrow.
It got to 60° today and tomorrow will be warmer. C’mon spring!!!
Well, it’s 5pm here and I’ve seen neither hide nor hair of the handyman. I don’t have his contact info (everything understandably goes through the landlady) so I don’t know if he’s still planning on coming by? Honestly, at this point I’d rather he just put me first on his list for tomorrow morning. If he doesn’t show up in the next hour I’ll text the landlady and ask if tomorrow is possible instead.
It took me waaay to long to figure out that was short for manufacturer! I thought you were channeling Samuel L. Jackson for a minute.
shoe positive thoughts for your tax return to be a wash or a small refund!
Happy cake day, Metal Mouse!
How stinking cute is that?! Also, your blurred comment cracked me up!
FCM Does your daughter work for the feds or a company that contracts with them? Either way, I hope she’s unaffected. I hear the job market is a bit bumpy right now.
And a fine late afternoon all. Got up to 63F and I even rolled my car window down while coming home from the gym. Will shortly head out and see if the local Arby’s has burgers or not, then planning on an evening of sloth. Weight was at 198lbs even, so seems to be stabilizing at that level. If nothing else breaks, will start my weight training at the gym on the 10th of March.
You’ve just described a sizeable percentage of humanity…all Mumpers excepted, of course…
Knots, hope the dishwasher is behaving. Will need to run mine probably Wednesday, it takes awhile to load it up with just one of me.
Legend, welcome back, I probably should limit my time on-line too, but as a proper RDOS there is not a lot of other things to do and you folks are so darn interesting… Have a safe trip and enjoy nanny-duty.
Cookie, I don’t have a pet so others are much better than I, but this website is run by a professional groomer and should be good stuff…Girl With The Dogs
Shoe, appropriate appendages crossed for the tax result. What I owe is due to be collected on 1 March, we’ll see if the IRS is still functioning…
Oopsie, thank you, I joined here many, many years ago but didn’t get too involved, then about 7-8 years ago I re-connected and once I found the MMP I knew I was home.
52, ain’t nothing like hanging around the house all day waiting for the contractor; I suspect all of us have played that game before.
And time to go forth and seek the elusive Arby’s Burger. Will file a report on my late night final.
We got trespassed from the Capital grounds today, apparently we were upsetting people. They tried to trespass us from the sidewalks but we kinda ignored them, people are allowed to walk on the sidewalks. No pepper spray happened, so it was all good.
This is causing a dilemma. I feel that it is important to show up and get trespassed from the Capital grounds daily, but it has also been suggested that we go to our elected representatives offices and protest there on the day they are working.
I live to be annoying and I’m not sure where I can be the most annoying which is rather annoying to me.
It was a very pleasant day, sunny, no wind and close to 60F. I over dressed and had to go back to my car a couple of times to remove layers. You can slag my fashion sense all you want, but I’m here to tell you that UGGs are perfect for for slogging around on cold concrete.
My Handmaid garb arrived today and is of course too long. I will hem it after I’m done here, I just happen to have the right colored sewing thread (and that never happens for me, LOL).
The dealership didn’t put the steering wheel back on Hub’s car properly, it isn’t level and he didn’t notice until he’d gone 20 miles of back roads to get to a straight enough area to feel the difference. Seeing as how I don’t feed the fuzzbutts right, he chose to come home and take it back tomorrow. He does have his priorities, after all!
That is so annoying and I agree, I certainly wouldn’t want a handyman over after dinner. That’s relax and unwind time.
Great minds! But we had lima beans instead.
Ick about the ads. I play Township. No ads, no real money begging. Grow crops that won’t die, raise farm critters that won’t die and all around no pressure.
While I do play Diablo, that takes concentration and paying attention to shit.
Yes, super cute!
I hope things go in your favor!
I check the local news, the weather, the local news and weather in Cordes and Boise, then I come here. Then I go offline for most of the day, choosing to go to the Capital and mill around with a protest sign. It gets me outside and moving, plus I’m making friends!
Spring is coming, I know it gets terrible cold/windy in your neck of the woods so I’m sure you have enough warm clothing. You will be spending most of your time inside with your cute lil grandbaby anyhow.
I hope you have a great trip!
I really had planned on overruling Hubs and getting chickens a couple of years ago but then a friend told me that everything wanted to eat chickens and that despite my best efforts, I would lose at least a couple a year. My heart couldn’t take that, so I just find local people to buy eggs from. Currently they are four bucks a dozen from Charlotte or 5.75 a dozen in the sto.
Good luck with the dishwasher/phone meld. Don’t let them talk to the fridge, they don’t need to know about the upcoming burnt pan.
I did back in AZ. Once. It reminded me of that Sonic burger I had once.
Happy cake day. I always shop with a list as well. I also bring a pen so if I see something that isn’t on the list, I will write it on the list and cross it off because it is important budget wise to always shop off your list.
You are a very good mother. I hope you had a good walk with Bella and that she liked her new treats!
I am not alone and more people show up every day.
I agree with the shirtless hokey pokey idea for the sawdust as well as for your neighbor’s entertainment! Your washing machine drain lines will appreciate it. Carve a little rubber stopper to put in the charging port of your phone to help keep the sawdust out.
I’m glad you are feeling well enough to post, I’ve been hearing that the ick going around is not any fun at all.
Howdy Y’all! We tidied our drawers and snickered like six year old boys about havin’ dirty drawers. I would say we regressed, but neither of us ever really grew up. Nappage and day drinkin’ were accomplished and sup got fixed and et. All in all, a good day.
MetalMouse happy doperversary!
MOOOOOOM you should take up chikin farmin’. You could set up a roadside stand to sell excess aigs and have RoxStar and Tobester help. They can learn how to run a business and earn money to help pay for their kolledge tuition. It’s a win-win all around! Plus you’ll be known as the aig lady. I play solitaire games and like to win, but if I don’t then I don’t. Same with logic puzzles I have winnin’ and losin’ streaks. Them’s the breaks.
JtC go do good! Actually, by now you have been and done good.
Oopsie when one is handed a line what can one do but run with it.
You would be surprised the number of people who don’t bother to clean out their ports and turn fully functional phone on thon their claim. All we have to do to those is clean them up, clear their data and ship them out again.
What? Y’all don’t make grocery lists?
I hope that your daughter and her girlfriend are feeling better soonest, cat glove.
My time waster of choice is Mahjong. The one that I’ve downloaded has levels, so when I start making a lot of high scores, I’ll bump it up a notch. If I just want something mindless, I’ll bump it down.
I have one with the velvety sides to it. Of course, Nelson’s hair isn’t nearly as long as Sadie’s. If something is really bad, I’ll wrap some duct tape around my hand, sticky side out to pick up the stubborn hair.
It’s been a !@#$ing Monday all day. I didn’t sleep well last night (shoulder pain and a hot flash), got to irk and found out that one of the supes in another department had passed Friday. He was only about 50 and had two elementary aged kids. He had had an injury in October that required surgery and was slated to return to work this week. One of his fellow countrymen went to take him to the doctor Friday and found him. He and I started about the same time and worked graveyards on the weekends for a couple of years. I will miss him.
After that, the manager in our new Reclaim department came and requested me to train a couple of his people on unlocking Pixel and Motorola phones. We worked on Pixels today. I told him that Motorolas would have to wait, since I have a backlog that takes priority. He agreed, but they are sharing my laptop with the Pixel RMA tool for programming / unlocking phones until they get their own.
A busy day today. Started with breakfast at the condo next door. They have a restaurant that is open for quite a few hours. The one in our building is dinner only. I managed to get on their fancy shuttle (which also has more hours than ours). Woot!
Then a bunch of walking around and shopping. Talked to a cabinet company about pricing for kitchen cabinets. Got some great info there. It will be some time before kitchen renovation will happen.
I wandered around and found a neighbourhood about which I had no idea. Lots of newly or somewhat newly constructed houses. Newer houses have some sort of parking. I found a nice cafe to spend sometime in, until it was time for my dr. apt…
Stopped by joybird to order a loveseat. Lager’s fur did not stick to the fabric samples, and I double checked to be sure I could be comfortable snuggling with cats. The loveseat will be in gunmetal velvet. It is a dark charcoal grey colour. Today was the last day of the sale, the seat should arrive in late April or early may.
Then off to get the tetanus shot finally. The second cvs was able to take a walk in. The person giving the shot was really good. Didn’t even feel it! Then onto my independent pharmacy to get refills, then home finally. About 4 miles walked today.
Still a bit too chilly for that sort of malarkey around here. July and August, perhaps. I may or may not have been known to go skinny dipping in the summers…
