Oldest non-staff still-active registered user?

Who has been here longest (that is still here)?

Staff doesn’t count.

I’m #36… who’s older?

I know positively that it is not me, but how do you know what # regestered user you are?

I just kept replacing the number in the URL with successively larger values.

The first non-administrator user is jkeene (#5), but his domain name is @chicagoreader.com.
The first user not affiliated with The Straight Dope itself is VegForLife (#11), who first posted on Feb 19, 1999.

At #14 is Monty. 1564 post, last post 5/29/00 9:56 am. We don’t count Dex’s alter ego at #30, do we?

But, hey, Opal, if you can’t be Queen, Princess isn’t a bad title.

Jim

Well, I think it’s pretty safe to say it’s not me, but how do you find out what number you are?

Hey kinoons…nice occupation! Here I’ve been, thinking I’m the only firefighter on the boards, and there you’ve been all this time. Hmph. Go figure.

Hey, I’m pretty far up there myself…#47…no too shabby.

I think Monty and VegForLife made it on the list due to being on the Straight Dope Science Advisory Board. I find it interesting that the poster with the lowest number that’s not affiliated with the Chicago Reader or the SDMB or the SDSAB whose name I recognize is Cyberian54, who is no longer an active poster, of course. Other than that, I think Opal has it.

It’s been explained elsewhere, but here is a summary.

Find one of your posts and hover your mouse over the ‘profile’ icon, or just click it. The URL it wants to take you to ends in your userid. Example:

http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/member.php?action=getinfo&userid=5764

Userid = 5764.

Oh, and I’m 252, by the way. Which means I’m “older” than David B. (293)! I forget why I care.

Well, under my original user name I was registered within the week or so after the start up. And I’m certainly an active poster and have no affiliation with the SDMB.

But I remember when a previous thread was discussing registration dates, Michelle (under her original user name) had registered before me. So assuming you go by people rather than user names, she may hold the title as “longest active poster with no SDMB affiliation”.

Well, I have some good neighbors, it appears. A few before me leads to Cabbage, and the original Inky, and a few after me lies GuanoLad.

The important thing here seems to be the dates. In February, 1999 testing was going on.
The board didn’t open up to the doomed AOL’ers until early March.
At that time Cecil Adams was registered as #31 on March 9, the same day as TubaDiva(#32).
Right after Tuba in the 33rd position on that fateful day is Gus. He’s still around. He hasn’t gotten to 100 posts yet, but he’s still around.

4/28/00 at 7:05 PM (YYMV, depending on time zone) is the earliest date that it shows for anyone’s most recent post. I guess that’s when the board switched over. If someone stopped posting before then, the profile still shows that date. And I’m still wondering how Cyberian got on the list during the testing.

And CatBiker doesn’t seem to have actually posted since February, which hardly counts as still being around in June.

CatBiker sometimes posts over at the 3FMB

It doesn’t count for this thread, but if you miss him, you can find him there

Looks like CatBiker decided to post just to prove you wrong. A mere 14 hours after your claim that he hadn’t posted since February, he posted to an ATMB thread so I guess he can count.

4/28 is the date we changed software, of course.

“Cyberian54” was a joke one of the SDSAB threw in, just to be funny. It wasn’t.

And Cat’s been here, nice to see him back.

Well, I registered only a couple of days after Opal, but by that time I got # 121. But I was out of town on business that week, so I was a little slow getting signed up.

I never been a big poster, not even for the time on the AOL board, where I was a member almost from the beginning as well (Tuba was around, but hadn’t been designated as board goddess yet at the time I joined there).

But I still read the board pretty regularly, and some of the regs may remember me.
