1- Cecil Adams and anybody associated with originally designing the website or getting it up and running don’t count. Nor do any of the SD advisory staff who held those jobs before the site was erected.
2- Mods count, but only if not part of any group in #1.
3- “Current active” is defined (arbitrarily) as someone who has posted within the last 4 months.
I really have no idea how old the site is. The poster with the earliest activation date I’ve seen was from sometime in 1998. Coldfire has been around since '99, and that’s pretty rare too. There has been a HUGE increase in new members just since I joined last year. I feel like an old man sometimes.
The site was started up around March of '99, I think (give or take a month). This particular subject was brought up a while back, but I don’t remember who “won” the “longest-posting” contest.
That would be, I believe, CatBiker. I remember this coming up a while ago, and I said that he shouldn’t count as he hadn’t posted in months, then he started posting again the next day or so. If you want, you can put different numbers in the URL for a profile, starting at 1, and working through all the mods, admins, Reader staff, and SDSAB, and get to CatBiker around #35.
Monty is, or at least was, a member of the Straight Dope Science Advisory Board. Notice in looking through that there is a month-long gap between those who had access before the board went public, and the rest of the hoi polloi got here.
Well, Monty is listed at joining in Feb.'99, and CatBiker in Mar.'99. Hmm. I wonder who I saw with a joining date in '98? If they weren’t part of the site itself, then they would get the title so far.
By the way, is there ANY question that hasn’t been asked before on the Boards?
Oh, and Lizard, lots of questions haven’t been asked yet. Here’s one: “If you had to cut off your penis, would you do it when you were soft or hard?”
It is, however, true that most of the good questions have been asked.
Hey, maybe you could start a thread about it. “What stupid questions haven’t been asked?” Use the above as an example. I’m not guaranteeing a response, but it’s worth a try, right?

I signed up March 99 as well, about 10 days or so after the board opened to the public. I was out of town the week it opened, so I didn’t signup in the first couple of days. A bunch of the old AOL regulars signed up during that month.
tomndebb signed up March 12, 1999 (userid 82), and is certainly one of the most constant, prolific and intelligent posters. I believe he’s mentioned being on the old AOL board.
I have been here a while, Fought with JillGat, TUBA, Lynn, all the good old AOL SDMB folks. I don’t do much here but TOMNDEB is one cool cat and way smarter than this ole biker.
I don’t care how you count it, but who has made the most posts? I noticed that handy has over 12,000. With that many he should be suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome!
Well, for the amount of time you’ve been around, you’ve stuck your foot in your mouth surprisingly few times. That’s rather impressive. Besides, we can’t all be tomndebb.
As for handy, I’ll try to remember to throw him a party when he hits 5 digits. I mean, nobody’s ever done that before.
