It sure has been! Hope you can make it!
Any chance of scoring tickets to The Barnes Foundation? Always amazing, and not too far out of Philly proper.
Guys, I’m not unfamiliar with what Philly has to offer, culturally or otherwise. If you’d like, I can come up with several Dopers who will be happy to vouch for my competence as a tour guide. Suggestions from afar aren’t really needed.
Best Philly tour guide EVAH!
NYC, by the way, is making a bid to attract Olives to attend my alma mater here in Manhattan, and we’re bidding hard. I have offered **Olives **and her husband a cultural and historical tour of Manhattan, beginning with a tour of J.D. Salinger’s boyhood home (Dopers welcome to join). Fair notice: I intend to conclude with **Olives ** attending grad school in New York.

I’m thinking our schedule next Saturday will be dependent on what the weather is like – Penna. Academy if it’s unpleasant, bopping around Old City (galleries and history and The Book Trader) if it’s nice or nice-ish.
For dinner – how about The Italian Bistro at Broad and Walnut? Not too expensive, decent food, never too crowded. I assume they take reservations – let’s start getting a count. (Time – how’s 6 PM?)
Italian is good, with one tiny issue–that my husband is allergic to most Italian food. He can’t have pasta, tomatoes, cheese, or bread. Or vinegar or salad dressing or anything with dairy in it (yes, he’s a freak of nature.)
That doesn’t rule out Italian–I just want to make sure there’s something he can get on the menu, like shrimp, chicken or pork and some kind of vegetable side.
I am totally excited about next weekend, by the way.
Damn, it didn’t even occur to me to ask. Allergic to Italian? Poor man!
Here is the menu. Scroll down on the dinner menu for “seafood your style” – just above that is their “grill” menu.
Or, I could come up with somewhere else – which could also mean “somewhere cheaper.” Let me know.
I checked out the menu. I’ll have him double-check it this weekend, but I saw a ton of stuff on there he’d be able to choose from. I love Italian food but don’t get to eat it much because of his allergies. But this… this is good for both of us. ![]()
Okay, people, time to start RSVPing – who will be joining me, olives, and marido de olives?
Italian Bistro, Broad and Walnut, Saturday, 11/22, 6 PM
Unfortunately, I did not factor the Puppy Variable into things. She will still be “being housetrained” as of next Saturday and we can’t leave her for more than about 4 hours at a time at the moment (I’m actually going home at lunch on weekdays to feed her and take her outside for the foreseeable future). So we’re going to have to beg off on this one, I’m afraid. Perhaps if olivesmarch4 does move to Philly for school, she can come to next year’s Gettysdope?
Harrumph.
Sorry youse guys won’t be joining us – hopefully some other time, soon.
olives and olivesmarido officially RSVPing.
Man, I’m going to have to steal that from now on.
Jeez, people, surely we can do better than this. You do realize that we’re in competition with NYC for where olives is going to go to grad school?
I’m in.
I’d like to come, but I need to see exactly what I have going on this weekend schoolwise. I should know better by tomorrow evening.
I’m back in Philly on break and am definitely in.
Okay, this is more like it.
