To most Americans, she will always be known as “Weezy”. Perhaps her death will cause some folks to seek out her other fine work, but sadly I doubt it. Still, The Jeffersons was a damn fine show IMHO, and it’s a shame that non-Americans (who I guess are bragging about their ignorance) never got a chance to see her as the sweet but tough lady of the house.
If only Viacom would get off their asses and start exporting Nick at Nite…
I just want to point out that I started the FIRST thread after searching for “Sanford” and “Jeffersons” to make sure that nobody else had started one. And I did not use the obvious “moving on up” reference.
I get why someone may want to start a thread about the death of a celebrity. I’m pitting the dopers who rush over to CS in order to be the first to post about it without bothering to check and see if they’ve been beaten to it.
I started one of the threads in question. When I read the news, I went to Cafe Society, didn’t see a thread on the first page, and posted. The original thread was already on the 2nd page, and I didn’t see it.
See, the way it works is everytime someone posts to a thread, it goes to the top of the forum. There was a post in Annie X-mas’s thread at 1:10pm my time. Your thread was started at 1:39pm my time.
I’m not going to debate this. When I posted the thread, I didn’t see another similar one on a different page. Irrespective of whether you believe that, it’s true.
Since I hate TV news and I only read news websites at work (they’re the ultimate “work-safe” websites; you can almost always find a way to say they pertained to work if you get called to task), I end up getting a lot of my news here at the dope.
I’m not going to rake the two late posters over the coals or argue about where Annie’s thread was at 1:39—I’ve done it myself. You glance over the forum too quickly, miss it, and post your own redundant thread. It happens.
I just suggest they do what I did and use this as a lesson: read the first page (possibly second, too) of all pertinent forums before posting a new thread about any “just breaking news” topic.
