Rick Astley, the 80’s pop singer whose biggest hit was “Never Gonna Give You Up,” has been nominated for “Best Act Ever” at the MTV Europe Video Music Awards. The voting is open to fans on the internet, and the nomination is likely the result of the recent Rickroll internet fad. Other stars nominated are U2, Madonna, and Christina Aguilera, but the 42 year old Astley is the surprise front-runner.
When interviewed by the BBC, Astley remarked, “To be honest, I think someone’s having a wind-up. But whatever. It’s a bit of fun. I don’t think I’ll be buying a ticket to Liverpool.”
The awards ceremony will be held November 6 in Liverpool.
