You read that right, Rick Astley of Rickroll fame has released a new single called ‘Keep Singing’. It’s really good too.

After his success in the late 80s and early 90s, he retired at the tender age of 27 (and I’m sure with mountains of money*). Although apparently he partially came back and even did some tours during the naughties, he kept a pretty low profile.

I knew he would never give us up, or let us down.

*Another interesting thing I learned from his Wiki, re: ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’: “Although the video garnered millions of hits on YouTube, Astley has earned almost no money from the meme. By 2010 he had received only US$12 in royalties from YouTube for his performance share.”

A bit religious for my tastes. And the video sucks.

Still, sounds great, and he looks like he hasn’t aged.

Eh, I wouldn’t really call it “religious”. I’ve heard some say it sounds a bit “churchy”, and I guess I could see that, but I don’t care.

And his voice does sounds excellent - even better than during the 80s! Plus you gotta love that Big Boy Burgers haircut.

While I fully understand from the lyrics why he kept it slow, it becomes amazing if you speed it up to 125% (using the YouTube gear icon).

A few bits of the lyrics run by too fast, but it otherwise sounds great. You can really feel the jam.

ok that was snarky, I just mean that it is one hell of a boring song with a boring video. put him in front of the Roots, or something like that and it would probably be amazing.

I did this, then bumped it up to a blazing 150%. It really does make it better.

So if you put this in a youtube playlist, is there anyway to have it play at the 1.25 speed and the rest of the playlist play at normal speed?

Need answer 1.25 times faster than usual.

I dunno. Maybe it’s the vocal phrasing, but even at 125% it sounds way too fast for me. Maybe somewhere between 100 - 125% speed would feel right, but I prefer the slower to the faster version.

He still sounds great. And also like a large black man. I don’t love the song but maybe he has more up his sleeve.

He showed up as a guest character in the Family Guy social game a while back, so I figured he must have something new going on.
