There is a lot of sad news in this thread and I feel sorrow and dismay for all of it, but in particular, my condolences go out to Beckdawreck, who had a special relationship with dropzone. I’m sorry for your loss, Beck.
He was such a good friend.
Terribly funny and quirky.
I will miss him. I already do.

I’m so sorry to hear this - he’d been on the Boards so long he was practically an institution. I’m so sorry for your loss, Beck, and all others whose lives he touched.

He’d been so unwell for so long, but I know we were all pulling for him to get better.
I already posted my feelings about why Dropzone was awesome and will be missed, but wanted to mention two more things.
One, another heap of hugs for @Beckdawrek, who outside of Mike’s immediate family is the most directly affected.
Two, a big thank you to all the general lurkers who may not post frequently, but took the time to do so for this news. I hope one day one of the dropzonelings will scan through the SDMB and see yet another side of Mike and the love he received here.
This is so sad. Condolences to everyone. He obviously touched a lot of us.
I’d be more than willing to donate to a fund either in his memory or to help his family.

Exactly what happened?
Can’t find the thread right now, but IIRC, they were chatting online, and he thought she sounded really, really off. He tracked down the town she lived in, and got hold of the sheriff’s office or something, and they did a welfare check. Turns out her blood sugar had spiked (or crashed?). I think she was home alone at the time.

Mikey was very concerned about my ghost room at my house.
He often told me not to make enemies of the spirits living, therein.
Which I’ve never done.
I have had a few hair raising (literally my hair feeling weird) moments as I go by the door. I’m not brave enough to go in and sit, yet. But I will.
It’s sounds like both Mike and the disabled daughter could have both been on Medicaid and if Dopers provide $3,000 to $4,000 or whatever the state could possibly try to claim it for past bills.
Thus I am thinking Dopers could set up a Gofundme with a Doper as an administrator. I think most of us would be willing to volunteer Beck as that administrator.
Any thoughts?

I had hoped to someday read that dropzone would be sprung from the medical facility. I’m sorry that it ended this way.
My condolences to his daughter and @Beckdawrek, both of whom are probably a bit more wrecked than not.
It’s never easy when a Doper passes, but it’s doubly difficult in Dropzone’s case.
Not only did he help @Beckdawrek in her time of need, he kept us posted as to how she was doing. Plus, he always had something to contribute to discussions.
Rest well, Dropzone. You’ve earned it.
