Yeah. Fessing up to / bragging about speeding and about murder are two rather different ideas. With probably different reactions from your audience.
Then again, methamphetamine was involved, so any thought either of them could exercise good judgment about anything was pretty well excluded from the git-go.
Considering that the “excuse” was a supposed act of trafficking, the news outlet may be applying some in-house “shield rules”. For instance she may have been a minor at the time so they’d rather not mention what went on.
Right. But I’m surprised there was no mention of her now, 4 years later. Could be she’s out on the streets somewhere. Or maybe just out of the area, with no interest in her parents’ lives anymore.
The impression I get is that the daughter and the boyfriend went to Seattle to get away from these two, and their subsequent “rescue” of their daughter was more of a legal kidnapping.
The young man was 19 at the time of his murder, and so probably 18 the year before when the two were in Seattle. The age of consent in Washington is 16, so if she was between 16 and 18, they couldn’t get him for statutory rape. But she would have been still legally under their control.
That was the father’s claim (that he was under the influence). I suppose if he was, the mother also was, or she wouldn’t have gone along with all this evil. Nevertheless, if the printed account is accurate, I think 6 years for what she did is an appallingly short sentence.
Sadly, there are still people today who believe that any mental health condition is evil incarnate and thus whatever they do to eradicate said evil is right. I don’t know if the girl’s parents in this cased believed that; however, it would not surprise me if they did.
Well IMO it’d be a great public service to eradicate the girl’s parents. Ideally 10 years ago before they had a chance to act on their defective mentalities. They’re definitely lacking insome key psychological features of healthy humanity.
Yup. People don’t understand mental health problems, as there is still a massive stigma attached to them, and don’t even think of them as “health problems” at all. Almost anyone suffering from mental health issues is far more vulnerable than a person who isn’t, and so is likely to be a victim of crimes more than a perpetrator.
It doesn’t help that we’ve been inundated with media for decades (centuries?) featuring villains who have turned evil due to mental health problems and must be stopped by the virtuous heroes.
A facebook friend of mine, when talking about (her own, often) mental issues reminds people that mental health problems are no different than physical health problems. You wouldn’t tell someone with broken knee to walk it off and you shouldn’t tell someone having a mental episode to suck it up.
In any case, a few days ago I saw this video. It’s from WW2 and specifically states that you need to remember that someone with a mental health issue is as sick as, and as deserving of care as, someone with malaria or cancer.
Thanks for those links. There is some information in the second one about the daughter, including that they are (still, apparently) not naming her because she was possibly a victim of sex trafficking. She also apparently threatened the lives of her then boyfriend and both her parents. (Actually, the woman is her mother, the man is apparently a step-parent). The mother claims the girl was homeless in Arizona for the last year. In any case, she seems to have mental issues of her own.
Well that was during WWII. I recall that during the Cold War, one of the things we were told the commies did to dissidents was put them in psychiatric hospitals. We 'Murricans can’t be doing what commies do.
I haven’t seen a printed news story but learned from my white supremacist cousin that neo Nazis paraded in Columbus, OH this weekend. They ought to sit on it and spin in any way possible.
Wonder if the KKK will try make some kind of resurgence.
Still-unconfirmed rumblings (hence nothing confirmed to cite, here, so far) coming out of Lexington, Kentucky social media about violence coming to blacks leading up to inauguration - let’s just hope that stays unconfirmed and coming to nothing.
