Forty-seven people have gone on trial in Turkey in connection with an alleged scam in which newborns were transferred between hospitals for profit.
Prosecutors say doctors, nurses and ambulance drivers are responsible for the deaths of at least 10 children.
The defendants are accused of making false diagnoses to transfer babies to 19 private hospitals, where they were allegedly kept in intensive care in neonatal units for lengthy, sometimes unnecessary treatments.
According to the 1,400-page indictment, those involved shared the social security payments earned for each day a baby stayed in the unit. The defendants deny wrongdoing. A civilized country which descends into autocracy and whose economy is then destroyed to feed the vanity of one man is a terrible thing to watch.

Exactly how did the scam work… I read the BBC article and I don’t get why the hospital workers would get paid the social security payment for the infants. Would not these payments gone to the parents? Or is social security payment a British way of saying medical insurance payout.? Aka Medicare Billing fraud?
Googling, in Türkiye, “Social Security” includes a bunch of stuff including health insurance.
From the little I read, the “social security” was payments made to the hospital for the unnecessary medical procedures.
Think of it like an medical office billing patients for thousands of dollars of medical equipment they don’t need (and may not even know is being ordered under their name) and collecting the money from medicare.
Coincidentally, just yesterday some doctors in Michigan pled guilty of doing just that.

This a bit late, but here are two contenders for Evil MFers. Both of these cases happened in China.
First up, Driver kills 35 people in ramming attack on crowd in China’s Zhuhai. (The link goes to Reuters.)
A driver rammed his car into a crowd at a sports centre in southern China, killing 35 people and severely injuring 43 in one of the deadliest attacks in contemporary Chinese history.
And what was the trigger for this carnage?
Police said the 62-year-old driver, with the surname Fan, had been captured and was hospitalised for wounds believed to have been self-inflicted with a knife to the neck and other parts of his body. Fan had been upset about the split of assets in his divorce settlement, police added.

A stabbing attack at a vocational school in the eastern Chinese city of Wuxi on Saturday left eight people dead and 17 others injured, local police said.
The attack took place at the Wuxi Vocational Institute of Arts and Technology in Yixing, a smaller city within Wuxi, at around 6:30 p.m. local time, the Yixing police said in a statement.
The suspect, a 21-year old male student surnamed Xu, was detained on site.

Her post resulted in some of the most vile comments, theatening to visit violence upon the children for … being other, I guess.

A couple of clarifications, not clear from your post: the woman who posted was trying to stir up shit, not just randomly posting a video of young people in the desert. Her voiceover included questions like “who dropped these people here?” i.e. “these look like illegal aliens to me.” I think that’s what the troglodytes in the comments were reacting to.
Also, the link is not to tiktok but to a news story about the whole incident, so probably harmless to click it, if you want more information.
I don’t think there are any restrictions on the word “asshole.” Or are you advertising that you want to use a slur associated solely with women, but you’re constrained by the rules? Way to go.
I watch too many British movies, where words that are gender-specific in the US are not in British vernacular.
