Omnibus Evil MFers in the news thread

No, they fired her for not reporting it to “salaried management” which sounds like a bullshit rule Walmart would have.

Unfortunately there have been the occasional assault on staff where I work. You can report it to any level of management and the corporate plan for that sort of thing kicks in. I’m happy to say not one of my co-workers have been fired for being attacked (it’s bizarre that that ever happens anywhere, but life is weird and unjust) although some have chosen to go into a different line of work.

That is, however, the predictable outcome of the current anti-trans mania. Women outside an arbitrary norm will face harassment at the toilet and need to prove they aren’t men just to take a pee. To “protect” women far more cis women will be harmed than trans women will ever be actually found. But the self righteous assholes, who are not affected by this bigotry, will deem all those harmed to be acceptable collateral damage.

I expect there will also be proposals to have security cameras in women’s toilets soon, as an additional “protection”.

The ultimate result of this, in 30 or 40 years, will be the end of bathroom privacy. Our progeny will eventually form a society where relieving one’s urinary and fecal urgencies wlll be normalized, toilets will be non-private, which will reduce or eliminate abductions and molestations, and it will be the norm to let others, at least partially, observe our excretions. It is unthinkable to us, but just talking about these things (not to mention sex) was unthinkable to our parents. It will eventually be a better world, though strange to us.

A couple/three decades ago I encountered this, as a middle-aged, strong-featured woman with a pixie haircut, wearing sweats and no makeup or jewelry. I was at a clam shack with friends and went to the restroom. As I came out I noticed a couple of middle-aged suburban housewife types at another table, glaring at me and muttering angrily.

I briefly considered walking over to them and hiking up my sweat shirt (no bra) while saying “Is this female enough for you?” but just walked back to my table instead.

I suppose these days they’d have called the cops, or at least the manager, to deal with the perceived pervert.

While I never worked for Walmart, I did work at Toys R Us for years and I worked in other retail places. As long as you aren’t being fired for a specific reason that identifies you as a protected class, you can be fired for just about anything. Every state aside from Montana is an at-will employment state, so you are at risk of being fired for almost any kind of petty reason unless you have something else protecting you (like a union or a contract).

I shared this with the Ottlets, and the Younger Ottlet (who has an ostomy because of Crohn’s) replied:

Yeaaaah if I ever get accosted for emptying my bag while standing in a public restroom — because who wouldn’t avoid sitting if they didn’t have to — I’m probably gonna need bail money. Just a heads up.

Ok, I agree acted wrong. The store should support it’s employees who haven’t done anything wrong.

There is a policy about informing a salaried member of management. It’s a screwy policy because Walmart explicitly went through a few years ago and shifted some salaried manager roles to hourly positions, and reduced the number of salaried managers in the building.

It’s a situation that has effects on other daily operations in the store, where the ideas of the home office bigshots don’t match the realities of actual store needs. They wanted to save on salaries and push responsibilities to lower workers while cutting back on trust given to those employees. It’s very frustrating in a small format store that has only 3 salaried managers on staff.

But I’m also cautious about the headline that Walmart has gone back on DEI. I have noticed that some of the voluntary ethnic diversity vids are gone, but I will note that our ethics training still focuses on treating others with respect. In fact, I can count at least three and possibly more trans or gender fluid employees in my building now. It’s hard to say without violating people’s privacy, it’s just something I’ve noticed in the past 2 or 3 years.

This incident happened in Florida. I suspect there might be something else involved. This was likely the local store manager’s decision driven by a cooperate culture averse to lawsuits.

Either way, it was a shitty act. A rude, nasty customer should not be justification for action against an employee that at worst violated a policy that is often carried out by relaying the message through the hourly managers.

I’m also aware of an incident a year or two ago where an employee was fired for supposed racist behavior that later was reversed for being distorted.

Depends on why. There are a lot of people fired for actual cause of being shitty employees, like theft or cheating the timeclock or multiple disciplinary incidents.

Sadly, I agree.

Aah yes, @Smapti & @Irishman, but now these fresh assaults on cis women are the good old fashioned jeebus-approved beatings. Nothing involving icky sex stuff.

See how much better MAGA-jeebus makes everything? [/sarcasm].

You’re a lot more optimistic than I. The ultimate result I see will be an expectation that any man will be allowed into the women’s room to “protect” the poor, helpless women in there, and if that results in women being assaulted, it’ll be regarded as the woman’s fault for not bringing in a protector with her (because every woman will be expected to have a protector, either her father before age 14, or her husband after that).

They have the 2nd Amendment. :smiling_face_with_horns:

The way the story was first reported made it seem like the guy became violent because his wife didn’t want to take a selfie with him. Later, she told authorities that she was uncomfortable with the selfie he wanted because it was too close to the cliff edge and that she walked away, and it was then that he got violent. Given the scale of the attack and the reported attempts at injection, it sure sounds possible that he wanted her at the cliff’s edge so that she’d “accidentally” fall off. Kind of reminiscent of the Deana Wild case.

More here.

Well, at least it seems likely that he won’t have to put up with her in his life anymore. So he sorta got his wish to be single. Always look on the bright side of life. Or so said Brian.

Better yet, neither will she have to put up with him.

What if they’ve changed their name at some point? Because that’s probably coming-you need to have your original ID to get a gun.

Guns need to be kept out of the hands of mentally ill people, including all women because they’re prone to hysteria.

Brian did not say that. It was the guy next to him that said that.

Did Hillary tweet in all-caps?

Always look on the bright side of life! I think the guy next to Brian was an unamed cast member (Eric Idle played him)

Eric Idle played 9 characters, 3 of whom were named (one with two names). The singing crucifee was unnamed, but it was most certainly not Stan called Loretta.

No, only manly men type in all caps. Only capital letters can hold all that masculinity.

This is so fucking evil I had to walk away from my first reading of the story. CNN’s summary:

The Trump administration conceded in a court filing Monday that it mistakenly deported a Maryland father to El Salvador “because of an administrative error” and argued it could not return him because he’s now in Salvadoran custody.

Further details in the rest of the article.
