Omnibus Evil MFers in the news thread

What a difficult road for the poor young man; where is the GoFundMe I can donate to help him? /s

I also receive the Morning Brief, and like you I’m thankful this piece of drivel didn’t smack me in the face (when I looked, the op-ed was a David Horsey cartoon on energy-sucking AI data centers). Most of the comments were surprisingly appropriate; to me, the best quote:

And make sure all the ICE agents have a good supply of masks, we wouldn’t want them to expose their sensitive skin to our Seattle weather.

That Oklahoma kid has a real future as a President. He’s off to a great start.

Statements like this are why I’d like to introduce a new standard acronym.

OWTART: “Oh, Well That’s All Right Then”

Am I correct that the boy still has a number of felonies on his record, to which he pleaded No Contest? At least that will make it less possible in the future to deny he did those things.

Surely a candidate for a pardon by Trump, with a big orange squeegee to wipe his record clean.

Last time I checked, Trump wasn’t the governor of Oklahoma.

True. But last time I checked, Trump hasn’t been real big on following the legal consensus on what he can and can’t do.

The president can’t pardon state crimes, only federal. There’s no “but what if I did anyway” end-run around that.

True, but he can just tell the OK governor to do it, right?

In Oklahoma the governor can only issue a pardon after a vote of the Pardon and Parole Board, so no.

Yeah, you’re right. Trump has never done an “end-around” regarding his constitutional powers.

Note that my original comment was largely facetious, given that Trump should feel little need to intervene in this slap on the wrist case.

It did not necessitate your snotty response.

Feel free to explain the mechanism by which Trump would be able to pardon a state offense, then.

Feel free to explain the mechanisms by which Trump has felt free to override his Constitutional limits already.

You want me to explain your argument for you?

Why don’t you go first.

I realize this is the Pit, but can we save the hate for all the evil motherfuckers in the news, and take your personal pissing matches to another thread?

They used to be called kapos.

You don’t know OK politics very well, do you?

Very quickly the red state governors aided by their all-red legislatures rolling over will also begin governing by decree. Might be 2027, might be right after trump is somehow still president after Jan 2029.

Then trump calls the OK goverernor and says “I order you to pardon Shit-for-brains Butler”. The OK governor says “Yes sir, Emperor Trump sir” and does so. The OK bureaucracy follows the governor’s orders like good little RW-controlled bureaucracies do. Done.

Once the Big-L Law doesn’t matter (and it increasingly doesn’t every day), then every small-l law doesn’t matter.

Step 1: Trump issues the pardon.
Step 2: Armed goons loyal to Trump show up at the prison, and say that Trump said to let the prisoner go.
Step 3: The prison guards, who are probably also loyal to Trump, let the prisoner go.
