On the TV show Arrested Development, the patriarch of the protagonist family would often stage elaborate and traumatizing “accidents” where it looked like a person was gruesomely injured (by hiring an actor missing an arm; every incident involved a fake limb being severed somehow). This was all to teach them some safety lesson related to whatever led to the staged maiming. This was something that would happen to them repeatedly as kids.
It sounds like this ridiculous sitcom premise was done IRL but taken to an even greater extreme.
A book banner with a handicapped kid who believes in “scared straight” discipline. Decent bet she calls herself some flavor of Christian and lurves her some “family values”.
All those things ought to be offenses. They’re certainly offensive to any notion of what a modern civilization should be.
Most likely they were stupid kids who stupidly thought that this would get them attention and further stupidly thought that that would be a good thing.
Some of those may have have been genuine home-grown fascists, to go along with bots/bad actors like the ones that infest Twitter and exist to create discord.*
*a whole lot of the “proud Americans” on X were exposed as coming from eastern Europe/Russia when X began listing the countries accounts post from.
When one political party has embraced anti-Semitism from its top, Trump, down to its lowest camp follower in ways that range from mildly anti-Semitic tropes to unabashed ‘Kill all Jews’ anyone that’s surprised by this isn’t paying attention.
Trump’s not really an antisemite in the classical sense.
He believes all the negative stereotypes about Jews - that they run the media, hoard money, are more loyal to Israel than America, etc. - but he thinks those are good things and he admires them for it.
Gotcha, they’re somewhat flesh colored (and, for the first guy at least, definitely look like it’s stretched out over a large belly) so I was confused.
Some of them are flopped so that the knob on top is on the other side. Which is just wrong. If it’s part of the uniform, they should all be the same. /s
