Used to be public sector workforce including LEAs were barred from forming unions, so instead they formed voluntary Mutual Aid organizations. When public sector unionization came about, often these entities evolved into the union role, sometimes officially or other times de-facto in those states where police and other law enforcement remained explicitly excluded from unionizing.

You’re certainly right that there’s a lot of overlap. And with our current criminal regime and senior officials thereof being both simultaneously very stupid and very evil, the overlap in the news grows by the day.
But a third thread would be IMO the wrong response. IMO the right response is to post your find to whichever is more appropriate (More stupid? More evil? Why can’t it be both? 
). Then quote yourself in the other thread. I’ve done that several times in both directions and it’s little incremental effort to post or to read.
