If you have the stomach for it, read the rest of the linked article.
No thanks. I’ll take your word for it.
ABC has cancelled the upcoming season of “The Bachelorette” after a video leaked of its star beating her ex-boyfriend and throwing a metal chair which struck their 6-year-old daughter.
So much winning…
Looks like he let slip the dogs of war.
the alleged shooter was identified as her teenage son Havoc Leone
Oddly prescient naming.
The staff of a falafel restaurant in Seattle are being harassed because the owner is Israeli.
I have to ask… is that image the mother or the son?
I was wondering that as well. I believe that’s the mother, but really only because, if I had to guess, they look closer to 41 than 14.
If instead of that caption saying “A 14 year old boy in Wyoming is accused of killing his mother…” it said “A 41 year old Wyoming mother was allegedly killed by her 14 year old son…”, I don’t think either of us would’ve had this question. IOW, I think the confusion is due to a (IMO) poorly worded caption.
The picture is sourced in the caption as “Theresa Leela/Facebook” so that points to it being the mother.
Me, too.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
eta: maybe there is, in Wyoming.
Would not be the least bit surprised if the harassers turned out to be more right-wing provocatuers (shit-disturbers in “anitfa” garb* like at the protests in Portland a ways back) than any “left-loonies”.
*Obviously I have no empirical evidence to prove that that was the case. Again - just simply would not be surprised in the least. Alt righters have proved time and again their absolute shit-for-faith in these matters, so accordingly I’ll stand by my speculation. Would not put ANYTHING past them, especially in a scenario like this.
Unfortunately, the thread about it on r/seattle (which is heavily left-leaning) is full of leftists making bad-faith arguments like “he dserves it because he served in the IDF” (which he did over 20 years ago, never saw combat, and left the country DURING his term of service" or “Jews serving Arab food is cultural appropriation” (as if Mizrahi Jews don’t exist and haven’t been eating falafel for centuries).
These days there’s as much antisemitism on the far left as there is on the right, they just have different justifications for it.
I came to the same conclusion, but because I don’t think they’d publish a picture of a minor accused of a crime.
In this far away country, falafel is seens as “middle eastern” and I have ordered and been served them by both Arabic and Jewish food stalls. No difference at all, except sometimes they are more round, sometimes slightly flattened. Always with hummus, tatziki, some form of salad and usually in or with a pita bread.
Off-topic:
I used to buy this amazing vegan falafel from a full on hippie guy (neither Israeli/Arab) who had a roadside tent store, it came with TVP (texturised vegetable protein) which was really, really good. I asked him how he prepared it, and sadly he just smiled and shook his head. He was not sharing.
Reminds me of the machete attack in a restaurant near where I used to live back in 2016.
The place was apparently targeted when the attacker learned the owner was an Israeli - though he turned out to be an Israeli Christian Arab.
Apparently it’s not just right-wing nutballs that come up with this “false flag” shit.
Isn’t the default falafel vegan? When we make it, it definitely is (we make it often since it is so delicious).
And nevermind - I see some commercial mixes have dairy. I did not know that. Not hard to make them vegan.
I looked up recipes, the first couple I see appear to be vegan.
But I guess you could add feta into the mix, or fry it in butter rather than olive oil, and either of those would be non-vegan as you said because of the dairy.
The acrual balls are vergan, but you can add all sorts of additions. There is a local place that makes both chicken and beef pitas with falafels.
They are still called “fallafel”; I think like a sandwich, this is a very generic name for the food, which ranges quite wildly.
The actual falafels are always in there though.
There are only like 35 people in Wyoming. I have a friend that lives there. I can have her check if you’d like.
