Omnibus Evil MFers in the news thread

Family: Oh shucks, we’ve got kittens. We can’t afford to care for them. What a pickle!

Alabama Man: Put them in a shoe box, a paper bag, and give them to me. I have an idea.

And this is why capital punishment is evil.

Nice statistic at the end of the article.

I agree capital punishment is evil but if we’re going to do it, put a bullet in the back of their head and have done with it. All this lethal injection baloney is for the sake of we the living, not the prisoner. We need to be made uncomfortable every time it happens.

Trouble is, no-one wants to be the identifiable one to pull the trigger (at least, no-one we the public would want to be doing it). So it seems like a firing squad is the closest to that ideal, with one unidentified person firing a blank round.

Has there ever been an execution method that never went wrong?

So if we agree that execution is wrong, let’s just not do it.

There’s a whole lot of different non-agreeing "we"s in this country. You or I might wish otherwise, but to say that the DP is a settled issue even in most states, much less at the federal level, is to fantasize.

Yeah, but bloodlust!

“If” is carrying a lot of weight in the part you quoted. I didn’t say, nor mean to suggest, that it is a settled issue.

I think my main point is that there is no nice or tidy way to execute someone.

Ah, OK. I took a different meaning as your point. Sorry to misunderstand.

No problem, my composition was hasty and not as clear as it might have been.

I’m sure we could find no shortage of volunteers. Have them do it, then put them on a watch list.

I’m wishy-washy on the death penalty. There are so many times it was abused or outright fraudulent, but also IMHO other times it was the right outcome (minus the fucking cost associated, which can’t be ignored). That being said, what about flooding a chamber with Nitrogen? Sure as shit effective, cheap, humane-ish???

I don’t know how often it’s been done, but it has been done that way.

Cite?

American Bar Association: Alabama Prepares to Become First State to Carry Out Execution by Nitrogen Gas (2023)

And then the follow-up, after they actually do it:

Granted, they aren’t flooding a “chamber” with gas; it’s a mask they put on their face.

As to being humane?

Despite state claims that it would be a painless death, witnesses reported Mr. Smith shook, convulsed, writhed, and gasped for minutes until he was pronounced dead at least 22 minutes after the execution began, though just how long it took is unknown since Alabama closed the execution curtain before the official time of death.

A man has been arrested for attempting to extort a frisbee golf company for $100 million.

In the competitive world of disc golf, they aren’t playing around.

This morning on NBC the FBI reported arresting people who planned to hit the White House with drones last Sunday. I’m always thrilled when law enforcement arrests people before such things occur.

It didn’t necessarily happen in this case but I also like it when the criminals accidentally PM undercover agents in the planning stage. The latter seems to happen often.

Like Hegseth did?

Oh yes! That was hilarious when he used that public chat space for planning operations. I still laugh about that these months later!
