Omnibus Evil MFers in the news thread

Or have the opportunity to play. Giving money so that kids have enough equipment sounds nice.

First you’d have to bring back all the playgrounds big enough to play baseball in that have been vanishing since the 1980s.

“Is ordered released”. The passive voice is used. Just who ordered him released?

Oh, there are plenty of them… way out in the suburbs. Even as the population of my metropolis is a third of what it was at its peak.

There’s got to be some way we can get more green spaces in the city.

The judge hearing the prosecution’s request to hold him versus the defense request to bond him out.

And the passive voice is often used as a legalese formality to create a distance away from it being the judge acting in his personal quality. Because legally it’s not “the judge” it’s “the Court” that’s ordering the release – so it could also be phrased in the active voice as “this Court orders the defendant released.”

Even if it’s an abstraction like “the court”, there still needs to be some entity taking responsibility, and it’s good journalism to let us know just who or what that entity is.

“It’s my duty to abuse you because you look like a foreigner!”

Travis Patron, founder of the now-defunct Canadian Nationalist Party, argued that he was upholding the law when he approached an off-duty police officer and questioned his relationship with his girlfriend.

Patron, 32, was found guilty in January of criminal harassment and breaching a probation order to keep the peace.

On July 30, 2023, he confronted an off-duty police officer in Saskatoon’s Midtown Plaza asking them questions about their culture, background and why the officer was walking around with a Canadian woman when he was not born in Canada.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and assert the police officer is not white.

So, yeah, he gets sentenced to some time.

Justice John Morrall sentenced Patron Friday to 200 days for criminal harassment and 30 days, to be served concurrently, for breaching his probation — the result of a conviction in October 2022 for wilfully promoting hatred against Jewish people.

Color me unsurprised. He had already been convicted of a hate crime, but that time against Jews.

Oh, did I say “some time”? I meant to say “about two weeks”.

With credit for time served, he has 15 days left to serve.

And here’s why I put this twerp’s latest news in this thread.

Crown prosecutor Lana Morelli read a victim impact statement from the officer’s girlfriend.

“What is difficult to portray to the court and what isn’t shown in the video footage is the look Mr. Patron had in his eyes. He looked at the one I love with pure hatred,” the statement said.

The woman wrote that she is concerned Patron would act on his racist beliefs and harm members of the public.

Court heard that when the officer walked away with his girlfriend, Patron yelled after them not to “violate our laws.”

Yeah, that’s not scary at all, some jackass coming after your significant other, harassing them based on their race, and then telling you both they’re watching you, you better watch out. Not scary in the least.

And doesn’t someone convicted of such a crime get ordered by the court to attend some kind of cultural sensitivity training? Nope, and here’s why this evil mofo doesn’t.

Justice Morrall considered those orders to be pointless as there was “no hope” for the accused to change his views and the probation order would only be "setting him up to fail.

No kidding, Mister Justice! Of course there’s no hope for him. That’s not a reason to not order the training. It’s a reason to not release his jackass ass back on the public. He’s already proven he doesn’t care about the conditions of his probation. Revoke it, have him serve the rest of the time for his previous conviction, and then sentence him to the maximum for these latest convictions with the sentences to be served consecutively.

My cynical self says “green spaces don’t pay taxes.” It’s a tough road to move land from having buildings to being a park.

This is a problem in Chapel Hill, NC, where I live. The town keeps allowing developers to put up housing and other tax-revenue producing business properties where there used to be open land. Since the trees that are being town down aren’t paying taxes, the town uses the excuse that the additional tax revenue will reduce our property taxes.

And of course the housing is all luxury apartments/condos instead of affordable housing, which is what we really need. There was a mayoral election last year, and the candidate who pledged to stop this, along with several town council candidates who were going to work with him, lost.

People who are already paying the existing prices and are therefore the existing voters are sure of one thing, and one thing only: they do not want people who can only afford to pay less to live anywhere near them.

It’s the same nationwide.

Well, if you want developers to offer units at less than market price… are you (the taxpayer) willing to pay for it? Cos that’s the only way it’s going to happen. You can require a certain amount of affordable units in a development, but if it gets to the point where it’s not profitable, then the whole thing doesn’t happen. We’ve got a strong contingent up here in Bozeman (and I presume everywhere) that wants to stop all development until prices come down… Da Fuk?

Urban blight doesn’t pay taxes, either. But property values are higher in the vicinity of green spaces than of blight.

It depends on what you are calling urban blight. Not having parks is hardly the same as urban blight. The seriously under-occupied office buildings in San Francisco, for example, may look like a bleak prospect, but the owners are still paying property taxes. The places that I have heard of doing teardowns without rebuilding are places like Detroit or New Orleans, where neighborhoods that became virtually uninhabited (for different reasons) and were falling down, got torn down instead. Most urban locations don’t have it as bad as that.

I do volunteer work for Friends of the Urban Forest, who plant and care for street trees, because San Francisco badly needs more of them. But some residents of poorer neighborhoods are afraid of anything that makes their neighborhood look better, because they fear it will lead to gentrification and higher prices and that they won’t be able to live there any more. If someone were to turn a nearby eyesore into a park, it would raise the property values and their property taxes, and there are plenty of people who don’t want that. It may be worse here because of the already high prices, but I expect this dynamic may exist in other cities too.

Unfortunately that is a perfectly valid thing to fear.

Is right-wing “concern” over trans kids very common in Canada? Or is the US infecting them?

That’s from June last year.

My large number of extended family member (aunts, uncles, cousins and cousins-once-removed) take a back seat to no one in their depraved transphobia, homophobia, racism and xenophobia.

Properties that were abandoned by their owners, and which are or will be eventually claimed by the city due to accumulated unpaid property taxes.

Alas, I’m afraid our nastier forms of madness are infectious and spreading.

When these people accost girls or women who they don’t think are feminine enough (because that’s what it boils down to) what the hell are they thinking when they demand “proof of gender”? How is a person suppose to prove that one the spot? Are these deranged fuckers demanding a girl drop her panties and submit to a public pelvic exam on the spot? Fucking perverts. They make my think very violent and unpleasent thoughts.
