And I suspect that, too. But people should be sorry they’re gone. That was the whole problem, here: Classmates being unjustifiably cruel to them.
Some evil motherfuckers from my area. 
This was in my county.
“The adult male and adult female suspects are believed to have become acquainted with Mr. Engeland several months ago and subsequently financially defrauded him,” officers wrote. “Police believe the suspects later violently confronted Mr. Engeland at his Mercer Island home in the late evening of February 23, and used Mr. Engeland’s vehicle to leave Mercer Island that night. His body was later found near Cosmopolis, WA.”
They murdered him then moved into his house. They tried to trick people into thinking he was alive and was renting the house to them, and even texted people from his phone, saying he was going away on a long trip.
The missing man’s siblings told investigators about receiving recent messages, ostensibly from their brother, but they did not think it was him; as a former English teacher, he “always texted in complete, grammatically correct sentences.”
He was a retired professor from the University of Washington, teaching English skills at a college level.
Now we know what you can do with a liberal arts education: successfully embark on a life of crime.
When I first saw the headline, I assumed “toddler” meant 3 or 4 years old. Nope, 16 months. Wow.
Obviously he’s not as evil as a neglectful mother, but still a grade-A greedy asshole:
I wonder if she even thought about her child while on this vacation. And was she with anyone who knew that she had a kid? They might have asked, “Oh, who is watching your daughter while you’re here?”
It amazes me that she could leave a child that young for that long.
I have never, ever left my kids for even 1 minute, unless under a trusted friend or teacher
I am going away for a short holiday tomorrow (7 days) and my cats - who are equally able to hunt, find their food and waterbowls, and I could overfill each, are being booked in to cat hotel. Kids are with me. Cats are safe, though they will be unhappy.
Looking back to how helpless my daughter was at that same age it is beyond fathonable that this woman did not a) take her fucking child along, or, b) employ a babysitter.
As a dad, I totally support this sentence.
As a dad, I hope the child’s dad steps up.

Did you read the article? It’s not going to help if the child’s father steps up now, as the sixteen-month-old Cleveland child did not survive being left for ten days in a playpen.
It amazes me that the kid survived 16 months.

My intention was “psychopathic”.
I have a severe hate for that defect and would happily slaughter them all in their millions regardless of age over and over until we culled 100% of their genes from the human pool. Forever amen.
I don’t see “psychotic” as relevant to this case. But I may be blinded by my admitted issue with “psycopathic”.

Our dogs go to Doggie Dude Ranch. They have a shallow in-ground pool for them for crying out loud.
The dogs vacation sometimes costs nearly as much as ours. But, we don’t have to worry. They have a great time.
It can be labeled anyway we please. But there is something seriously wrong with that person.
Billions and billions have died for the greater glory of the ~2% who are psychopathic. Substantially ALL human misery would end forever if only we eliminated this feature from the gene pool.
Future generations will judge us very harshly for our timidity in addressing a wholly addressable problem.
And what if it’s not genetic? Or what if it is genetic, but it’s not one gene, but a specific combination of them, such that almost everyone has some but not all of the “psychopath genes”? What percentage of humanity would you need to slaughter, before you realized that it wasn’t working?
