Gotta love how, “It’s my First Amendment, and I will use it because they ask for trouble.” makes the “they said I yell F Black people” such a clear lie.
James Charles Kopp, a radical anti-abortion activist who in 1998 murdered a western New York abortion provider, contends that his federal convictions should be dismissed because of the year-old Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe versus Wade.
In court papers filed this month, Kopp claims that the 2002 Supreme Court ruling proves that “the constitutional right to an abortion does not exist and never did.”
He also alleges that he was denied in federal court the right to justify his crimes with a defense based on “the humanity of womb children.”
In 1998, Kopp fatally shot Barnett Slepian, a physician and abortion provider, in Slepian’s Amherst, Erie County home.
More about that evil MFer in the link.
BTW, “womb children”?
This is shameful. Another view.
This isn’t quite as good a headline as “Headless Body In Topless Bar”, but it’s up there.
“NYC dominatrix yells ‘F–k you!’ after getting slapped with 21-year sentence for trying to poison pal with cheesecake”
Her attorney says they’re appealing the sentence. This can only help.
I’m not sure what’s more ironic. The “F-k you!” or the fact that she’s going to spend the next 21 years getting told what to do.
The linked article contains this near the bottom:
Aldrich had previously been arrested in Colorado Springs in June 2021 after threatening to detonate a bomb and harm their mother, court documents show.
Is this use of pronoun some kind of irony? Or does the BBC use this all the time, or whenever they have no explicit information about the desired pronoun(s) for the person being discussed? It just struck me as peculiar in this context.
I heard on NPR that the person prefers the they/them pronouns.
(Edited to add from the New York Times, “The defendant, who identifies as nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns, stood on Monday in a courtroom packed with victims of the attack and relatives of the dead, and tersely answered a series of questions from Judge Michael McHenry about whether the defendant understood the terms of the plea.”)
I just assumed that, the same way I assume that on any article or any other context where they/them is used.
I have seen a news story that a suspect has been arrested for the triple murder in Newton MA. If it is the killer I hope the death penalty will be asked for. I’m kind of mean that way. When my folks celebrated their 50th my maternal grandmother was still alive to help celebrate, like this couple, So I take it personally,
The death penalty in MA was abolished in 1984.
Individual conditions like “it’s freakin’ hot in this specific locality”? Do these people even know what the words they’re using mean?
MP’s have voted down a bill that would force schools to out trans students. I wasn’t aware that “woke” was a buzzword in England. Where does woke go to die there? Cornwall? (I’m just pulling a place out of my limited knowledge of the country.)
I have a theory why Texas banned local rules about water breaks in favor of leaving it up to OSHA. Without a local rule or ordinance, the local police can’t do anything about an employer not allowing water breaks. Instead, employees would have to wait for an OSHA inspector to show up, which I imagine is not very often. It’s very devious.
The far-right in the UK have adopted all the same bullshit as its US brethren, often in an even more nonsensical manner. The poster boy for this attitude is actor Laurence Fox, famous for 1) his role in Inspector Morse spin-off Lewis and 2) being a whiny petulant bitch complaining about how white men are the real victims of everything.
They’re also trying the anti-trans/anti-drag thing, but in a country where panto is traditional family entertainment it’s a lot harder to gain traction with the “drag queens are sexualising children!” narrative.
Woking, I would assume.
Golf clap.
I both love and hate what you did there. So torn!
It’s a very minor form of evil compared to many, but if this guy’s neighbor did cut down the trees he’s an asshole nonetheless.
