That bit about treasuring the fact that their laws save women’s lives is nonsense. Didn’t we recently have some proof that their laws actually do the opposite?
I think there should be an ominous evil stupid republican mf thread. Why? Because of this ominous evil stupid republican mf. (Link goes to AOL.)
A former North Dakota lawmaker who was one of the most powerful members of the Legislature has signed a plea agreement with federal prosecutors on a charge that he traveled to Europe with the intent of paying for sex with a minor.
Former Republican state Sen. Ray Holmberg, 80, of Grand Forks, signed the plea agreement last week. It was filed Monday. He agreed to plead guilty to travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual activity.
Prosecutors will recommend the low end of the sentencing guideline range and move to dismiss Holmberg’s other charge, receipt and attempted receipt of child sexual abuse material, according to the plea agreement. He would have to register as a sex offender under the plea deal.
The rest of the article is eye-opening and hair-raising.
Oh, yes, they’re saving lives (/s):
The Zurawskis say the politicians who voted for the anti-abortion law call themselves “pro-life” – but they don’t see it that way.
“Amanda almost died. That’s not pro-life. Amanda will have challenges in the future having more kids. That’s not pro-life,” Josh said.
“Nothing about [this] feels pro-life,” his wife added.
So she nearly lost her life, and may have lost her ability to carry another child, because the law was written so vaguely — methinks on purpose — that her doctors were unable/unwilling to determine whether a non-viable pregnancy could be terminated until she fell into sepsis herself. If you consider a woman a person, it’s horrific; but if you consider her a quasi-autonomous baby-making machine (whose offspring are precious snowflakes until they’re born, after which they need to fend for themselves), it kindasorta makes sense.
Oh, who am I kidding? It’s bullshit all the way down.
It should be obvious by now, that the cruelty is the point.
Huh, I hadn’t realized that that framing of the issue was due to Sr. Joan Chittister. I’ve read a good bit of her work.
I’ve said before, though, that there are actually six sides to the abortion debate, not two: Pro-life, anti-life, pro-choice, anti-choice, pro-abortion, and anti-abortion. And the pro-life movement made a grave mistake in choosing to ally with the anti-choice and anti-abortion movements.
Not even then, really, given that her ordeal has likely rendered her sterile. It only makes sense if you start from the premise that someone must be inferior to make the privileged class superior, and the inferior class must be punished to show their inferiority.
I was just about to post when I realized what I’d written actually didn’t make a lot of sense. I didn’t have time or inclination to rewrite it, so I added the final paragraph.
I’m honestly not sure how much is cruelty, how much is control, and how much is … something else. What I can say for certain is that it is, MHO, one instance of True Evil* in the world.
* I know, that’s not one of the Axes. But it’s too deliberate to be Chaotic, definitely isn’t Neutral, and despite being written into law, sure as fuck isn’t Lawful.
I can’t even…
Full Title: San Antonio U.S. Rep. Chip Roy says he wants to ‘ethnic cleanse’ white progressives
“Tell you what – I do want to ‘ethnic cleanse’ by deporting white progressive Democrats – with a special bonus for rich ones with an Ivy League degree,” Roy tweeted. “I really do not like ‘those people.’”
Backatcha you prick.
Now that there’s some serious respect for the Constitution right there my friends. Patriotism at its finest.
Since you have just announced you’re unwilling to uphold your oath of office I think it only appropriate that you be expelled from the House. Today.
And imagine the paradise San Antonio would turn into if every person with a degree left the city. Why it would be a utopia!
This is seriously some Khmer Rouge thinking. He’d get along great with Pol Pot.
I guess when you’re in Texas this kind of talk gets you applause.
To be fair…I guess it depends on where he wants to deport me to.
I mean, if he wants to deport me to Paris or Vancouver or somesuch and he’s paying for it I might not be too fussed.
“Ethnic cleansing” would be deporting you to the afterlife.
Good point.
Technically a “forced expulsion” would also be a form of ethnic cleansing, but it’s usually not used in that context. And this isn’t a nice suggestion to move, you’d be taken into custody and dumped somewhere, and they’d keep all your stuff.
It’s a nasty term to use.
I am sorry I was glib about it. I agree it is awful.
Being glib about awful stuff is kind of what the Pit is for so I personally don’t hold anything against you for it.
This guy needs some real help. No way he can claim it wasn’t “premeditated” either.
Lucky he didn’t kill the victim; he’d be looking at life with no parole. As it is, the man attacked is probably going to have brain injuries that might cripple him for life.
Damn, I gotta read slower!

The most shocking thing to me in the article is that someone plays Archeage.
