You are not alone.
You are not alone.
The people who would show up to hear that guy blort are exactly the same kind of people who would give him a standing ovation. Generally speaking, the crowd that shows up to hear an asshole are themselves primarily assholes.
It’s not bullshit; it’s horseshit. Thus: their “stable genius” idol.
Oh, and they don’t care if a woman loses her life or becomes sterile. After all, in either case, she won’t be having another abortion.
It’s no longer “the cruelty is the point”. It’s “the evil is the point”.
Can’t help but wonder how many of them are smugly like “that’ll learn’em”.
I’ve been driving about 45 years now.
I lived in Chicago 15 years.
I drove through downtown/the Loop ONCE. Never again.
When someone tells you who they are… believe them.
This guy doesn’t believe in actual democracy. He’s a fascist.
You must’ve been extremely lucky to not encounter the pubbie’s newest nonsense. They’re proudly declaring the United States is not a democracy and “lefties/commies/socialists” are fools for believing it is.
Oh, so more saying of the quiet part out loud…
Which is interesting given the rightwing conspiracy theory that ‘the libs’ want to round up all the conservatives and put them into Walmart concentration camps. Curiously, I’ve never seen a single quote from anyone advocating this.
On the other hang we have a sitting member of Congress proudly saying “I do want to ‘ethnic cleanse’ by deporting white progressive Democrats” and the Right is, as far as I know, silent.
Yeah, this one has been around for some time, but it’s been getting louder in recent years (I have a close relative who is my gauge for what the prominent MAGA talking points are at a given time). We’re a Republic, is how it goes, not a Democracy. Putting aside their understanding of the terms, I think it’s just a “we’ll do whatever we want” rationalization. For reasons.
Plus, it has the added benefit of using part of the word “Republican,” and none of that other foul word.
‘Article IV, Section 4: The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government the constitution says our party gets to run the country ,sucks to be you lib!’
“May it please the court, as a first time offender I’d like to be transferred to Wegmans instead?”
How many years (decades?) has it been now that for them there is no quiet part?
The underlying thinking is that the core feature of a Republic is that a 50%+1 majority can act as a total one-party dictatorship even if the voting itself is fully aboveboard.
The part of “Republic” they forget to mention is the bit about “majority rule with respect for minority rights and positions”
Another drop in the ocean of irony is that they are becoming (or already are, depending on the source) a minority themselves. But once a majority, always a majority, I guess.
Yes, it’s ironic.
And it’s also why the mad panic to suborn the districting and voting processes is in full feverish implementation now. And why the ongoing love for winner-take-all primaries and for the EC.
You don’t need 50%+1 of the population at large on your side if you can subdivide things so you get 50%+1 of the reps with only e.g. 30% of the votes.
It’s the exact same thinking, and many of the same techniques, that enable a founding family to retain total control over a giant corporation despite only owning 10% of the shares. If that many.
And very similar to how junk bonds can be repackaged into AAA investment instruments. Because there’s no way that can go wrong, is there?
When I lived in Chicago I had a few friends who would help me out with errands such as trips to Sam’s Club so I could stock up on things. However, if I wanted to go downtown I was on my own; they wouldn’t drive there at gunpoint. Fortunately the CTA (public transit) could take me there easily enough that this was not a problem.
I’d swear this story had been shared somewhere else, but I couldn’t find it. These crooks are brazen and heartless. Think of all of the good that could have been done with that money!
