Yeah. The house was completely remodelled but they left a running freezer in place? The freezer was not running, and offered for collection with ‘contents included’?
The story has been embellished.

Where did you get this from? That wasn’t in the article you posted. Here is a different article on the story, which contradicts you:
The relevant info:
According to Colorado Public Radio, records show a home on the street where Overstreet’s remains were discovered belonged to a Bradley David Imer, who died of Covid-19 in 2021. The outlet said Imer’s death certificate lists his spouse as Leanne Overstreet.
Colorado Public Radio noted that it had been unable to determine whether Leanne Overstreet and Amanda Overstreet were related. But the sheriff’s office did confirm to the outlet that Amanda’s biological mother had been a previous owner of the home where the remains were found.
Meanwhile, the Mesa county sheriff’s office provided a statement to the Daily Mail confirming Leanne Overstreet had indeed owned the home where her daughter’s remains were found.
So it seems that Amanda’s biological mother was the previous owner who sold the house. Amanda’s stepfather died of Covid in 2021 and then his wife inherited it before selling it. There is no info about a biological father that I could find.
Forensic Files has done at least one body-in-freezer case. And there’s the notorious murder that was the subject of the movie “Bernie”.
To be fair to @Smapti, the first article says this:
Overstreet was the biological daughter of the previous owner of the home, police said,
It doesn’t make clear they’re talking about the mother, not the father, but you’re right that the part about his/her location doesn’t seem to be there now. I thought it had said something like that, too, when I read it yesterday, so maybe the story has been edited without comment.
Yeah, when I first read the article it didn’t say the stepfather had died of covid and I assumed the biological parent being referred to was the father, because it seems pretty apparent what must have happened - the male parent raped and killed the girl, mutilated the body, dumped it somewhere, put the head and hands in the freezer so the body wouldn’t be identified and possibly also as trophies, claimed the kid had run away or something, and then either forgot or never got around to disposing of the rest of her.
If, is as appears likely, the stepdad was the killer, then he’s already gotten what he deserved from the sound of it. The cops are definitely gonna want to talk to the mother and check the cold case files for headless handless bodies found since 2005, I’m sure.
There was an almost identical case on Forensic Files back in the day - a new homeowner discovered a body in a 55-gallon drum, who turned out to have been the mistress of the man who owned the house before the person who sold it to him.
I’m guessing either the home flipper never opened the freezer, or the body parts were buried under a bunch of old stuff and they never dug through it.
The interesting thing about that drum with the mistress in it is that it was found in the crawlspace of the house.
Lubbock Texas cheerleader coach forced her charges to crawl on 125-degree Fahrenheit track. Their offense being the performance of a cheer she’d found “disrespectful.” Originally ordered to crawl and hop a full mile, most could only do half that. One sought treatment in a burn ward.

They probably weren’t labeled correctly.
Way past the use-by date, too.
You know, it’s possible the freezer was sitting unplugged and unused in a corner of the garage with a bunch of shit piled on top of it. Or in the backyard, for that matter. I know of a couple of folks who have used their old nonworking freezers for storage in their barns or workshops.
Whatever, it probably hadn’t been opened for a long time.

This sounds like the old brain-teaser about the surgeon.
And my guess would be that the buyer of the house hired one of those services that gets rid of everything in the house, reselling what they can and trashing the rest, just so long as the owner doesn’t have to worry about it.
The cops are definitely gonna want to talk to the mother and check the cold case files for headless handless bodies found since 2005, I’m sure.
It’s only a cold case if the freezer was plugged in.
…I’ll see my own way out, thanks…

Well, of course. If there is any truth in the article, then it must be something like this. But the article was carefully drafted to give the impression ‘person buys newly remodelled house, walks into utility room, opens freezer to find frozen head. The workers who remodelled the house never noticed!!!1!1omg!’
Not ‘person buys remodelled house with acres of land, finds old freezer in distant abandoned barn, with rotting head.’ Or whatever. We’ve read the article and don’t actually know anything about what happened!
What is the point of ‘news’ this misleading?

I guess he’s a perfect fit for the job - the NRA’s purpose these days is to sacrifice innocents and children and promote domestic terrorism in order to financially benefit the gun lobby, so a potential serial killer is the ideal candidate to run the place.

Per a new article, the remains were found while the person who came to pick up the freezer was emptying old meat out of it, which implies it had remained plugged in.
Authorities are investigating the disappearance of a Colorado teen whose head and hands were found at her family's former home after they sold it.
After the home was sold, its new owners held a garage sale to get rid of items that were still in the house when they bought it, CBS affiliate KHOU reported, citing a neighbor. People claimed a freezer from the sale and found the human remains while trying to unload other meat stored inside, according to the station.
Wonder if they still wanted the freezer?

You mean “… news this uninformative.” What they wrote wasn’t misleading. It just lacked any real you know … information.

But this is still true.

Well, yeah, some woman might have got her hands on it and ended up childless.
I’m a bad person. I want him to go through the same thing he put the cat through.
Cats are sacred.
