“Ms. Guilbeault was not motivated by race, religion, national origin, or any other discriminatory factor,” [attorney] Michael J. Alber said in a statement.
So, I guess simple battery charges will have to do.

So she just randomly attacks him for no reason? And that’s…better?
The use of “Pagan” there really confused me. I wondered if we now had a three-way religious discrimination case going. IOW Christian attacks Muslim for some semi-religious semi-bigoted reason, and is retaliated against by pagan person also motivated by semi-religious semi-bigoted reasons. And a healthy dose of common sense since violence is always bad in people who’re supposed to be in front of the public.
Reading the article, “Pagan” is the name of her (former) employer company. Which we learn in the 3rd paragraph.
How disappointing.
Don’t feel bad. I’m a big baseball fan, and there was a guy who used to play for my beloved Cubs whose name was Angel Pagan. I love the contradiction of those two names, by the way.
I was hoping he was somehow tangentially involved in this incident.
Carries a lower penalty.
I’m assuming there is no lack of evidence that she actually did do this thing, and that her attorney will be going for a plea deal. Presence or absence of a hate motive is likely to disappear in the negotiation anyway, I suppose. Or am I wrong?
Sounds right. Even if the driver testifies that she called him a racist name, unless the audio was recorded they can’t prove that. I doubt her friend would be willing to back him up.
There is literally a dashcam video of the incident in the article, complete with audio. She apparently tells her friend that the reason she did it was because “he’s brown” but she’s outside the car at that point and it’s hard to hear.
But there’s no doubt she just attacked him without provocation and that her friend didn’t understand why.
Oh I didn’t realize. When I played the video there was no audio. I must not have clicked it on.
Yes, you have to unmute it.
Holy shit - she climbed into the front seat after the guy! What. The. Fuck?
Throw the book at the bitch. That’s completely unacceptable behavior. She assaulted a stranger.
She sounds drunk, on drugs or possibly both in the video. Which is no excuse but possibly an explanation.
I think maybe when he started praying in Foreign she thought he was about to do a terrorism and she was a hero.
Too much trumpism will do that to a person’s brain.
I seem to recall quite a few cases over the past 23 years where high-albedo individuals responded inappropriately when darker-skinned folks in their vicinity began praying or writing in arabic. Or even just solving differential equations.
If my friend did that, he’d be out of luck.
Here in Olympia, the parents of an Iraqi-American teenager attacked her outside her high school in what appears to have been an attempted honor killing, after she fled home to avoid being shipped off to Iraq to be forcibly married to an older man.
Her boyfriend and his dad (who in my book are god damn heroes) pulled the father off of her while he was trying to choke her in the middle of the street.
Please tell me this “dad” is being charged with attempted murder.
First line in the linked article:
LACEY, Wash. - A Lacey father and mother are charged with attempted murder, attempted kidnapping and assault after being accused of trying to kill their teen daughter in what the victim described as a possible honor killing.
You know, first thing in the morning I don’t always click on a link to someone committing a vile and disgusting crime 'cause I want to at least have breakfast first. But thank you for reading it for me.
