Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 1)

In fact, extremist groups are at the core of the movement, Stephanie Carvin, a national security expert, tells Morning Edition. Carvin reports groups with conspiratorial beliefs, anti-government and bigoted views have been trying for years to organize a convoy, but vaccine mandates helped to finally give their plan enough momentum in Ottawa…

Those fatigued with lockdown-induced economic and social struggles resonate with the trucker protest’s messages against COVID-19 mandates, even though at its core, the movement’s roots are firmly based in violent extremist ideologies, Carvin explains.

‘I’m tired of COVID. Let’s join the Nazis!’

I’m annoyed that my preferred brand of marmalade has been out of stock for three weeks. I’m thinking of joining NAMBLA.

I find your proclivities deeply disturbing.

Who has a preferred brand of marmalade, anyway ?

You may want to revise that comment once you try marmalade made by Quince & Apple. Less sweet and a little bitter, but still a treat. The flavor is really complex, almost like a citrusy chutney.

I ask for a jar for my birthday and Christmas every year.

Yes, they changed their minds,

The (University of Alabama) trustees reversed a February 3 decision to name the building Lucy-Graves Hall after its first Black student and civil rights activist Autherine Lucy Foster and Bibb Graves, a former Alabama governor and a Ku Klux Klan leader.

but they came up with the idea ITFP, and it took a week of shouting for them to come around. That is one stupid klavern of Oeddies.

Who changed their minds? Your post followed one about marmalade.

It was definitely not because of the preserves,

“Complex and rich history”, except, stay clear of that damn CRT.

Recently, Billie Eilish stopped a concert because a fan in the audience was having an asthma attack, and she wanted to make sure that the fan got help. Now, Kanye West has announced that he will not attend the Coachella concert unless Billie Eilish apologizes to Travis Scott. She never said anything about Travis Scott. She stopped a concert to help a fan.

That’s odd, Mr West is ordinarily circumspect in his relationships with others.

Tulsi Gabbard tells Fucker Carlson that Biden should just tell Putin that Ukraine won’t join NATO, and everything will be fine,

That’s right, we’ll get peace in our time if only we give the aggressor what they want.

Dollars to donuts neither Carlson nor Gabbard has heard the phrase “peace in our time” nor do they understand what it means.

Doesn’t Gabbard have a track-record of having sympathies for Russia or something like that? Her remark may not be so unexpected, coming from her.

You really should! If you are a marmalade connoisseur, I encourage you to join the North American Marmalade Brunch Love Association. (Or the “Marmalobby” as it is called by those in the know.)

Fuck that. If Putin wants the right to an opinion about actions NATO will or will not take (let alone veto power over any of them) he can START by applying for membership. And if he wants anyone to believe that he doesn’t intend to invade, he can start with a good-faith gesture.

Removing Russian troops from Ukraine and renouncing his so-called “annexation” of Crimea would do nicely.

I hope this isn’t going to turn into another Ukraine invasion thread. Just sayin’.

That is as long as the post would have needed to be to qualify for this thread, ISTM.

Yes, human nature to join some group with the feeling that “they have my back”, or “I’m part of the group.”

I’ve read of this
being one reason for “gay until graduation”.
for any sort of religion that requires a huge commitment and draws people into a larger “family”.
for and even WWII reenactors who portray the Nazi side (the particular article made it very clear that these people were not neo-Nazi’s).

Certainly, the need for belonging is a powerful motivator, but I am more curious about the “being an asshole” aspect and why that is such a strong draw specifically.

Some Canadians apparently have been laboring under the impression that it’s a Union Jack.

From that article: Colonial Canada, for the most part, was actually an unlikely supporter of the Confederacy during the Civil War.

Huh. I’d love to learn more about that spy headquarters they mentioned too.
