Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 1)

An 18-year-old posts (falsely) on social media that he is taking explosives on a plane from London to Minorca. Plane is intercepted by Spanish fighter, kid faces €50,000 fine and possibly being put on no-fly list.

Mentour Pilot’s take on it:

And the real problem is, there’s no way to tell when the threat is made if it’s a chucklefuck thinking he’s making a good joke or someone who’s deadly serious.

POSSIBLY???

If that doesn’t qualify, what does?

Yeah that kid’s walking wherever he goes from now on. They probably won’t even let him on a bus.

The President of the Russian Duma threatens to demand Alaska back.

I bet Canada would just love that.

Can we offer them Texas instead?

They can give sell him a kayak to get back home. Paddle extra.

Well, he’s already up the proverbial creek.

Why would they want that pathetic little scrap of land?

I’m feeling a bit slow-the jet is to ensure it doesn’t try to fly into anything?

On what basis? They sold it to us. Are they planning to return the money, adjusted for inflation?

$145 million? I think even the Russians could scrape that up.

Can we fit it in a Ukraine deal? They get Alaska but give up Crimea?

I guess then Sarah Palin would be able to see Russia.

Our resident pilots can give more authoritative answers, but my understanding is that fighters are sent to escort suspicious aircraft away from sensitive areas and force them to land with the implicit threat of shooting them down. In this case, the pilots of the airliner were in radio contact and entirely compliant, but when this is not the case, the jet will rock its wings, the meaning of which is that the other plane is expected follow it to a landing site or face dire consequences.

Here’s an obvious question this scenario raises: has a civilian aircraft ever been intentionally shot down in such circumstances, after being hijacked, for instance, rather than being allowed to continued on an unauthorized course?

I’m a little confused. The pilots were in contact with the fighter, but he did the wing wiggle anyway.

It’s SOP.

Speaking of Spain and stupid MFers, after a 2 year hiatus the traditional Trampling Of The Idiots returns to the streets of Pamplona, and of course there’s an American down right off the bat…

Think of it as Evolution In Action.
