The Backlash Against Russell Brand, Explained
Russell Brand faced backlash after his YouTube channel appeared to make a rightward shift.
And unresponsive.
It’s like the so-called debates between political candidates. No matter what you’re asked, turn it into something you want to talk about, instead, that might score you a few political points.
Isn’t destroying a mailbox a federal crime?
IOKIARDI.
Discourse.
Give Rand Paul a chance!
This is from a State Dept. career quiz-I get it’s hypothetical but is this something they really worry about?
“Work collaboratively with the Department of Homeland Security to ensure a reformed ‘bad boy’ – now Best Actor nominee – receives a travel waiver so he can arrive at the Academy Awards on time.”
My “hypothetical” reply: That convicted child rapist Roman Polanski can fuck right the hell off. Don’t know if that will assure me the job, or put my application in the round file.
I’d happily arrange for his car to get lost on the way to the show. Oops!
…you think Polanski would be up for Best Actor?
Well, it was a “hypothetical”. We know who they really meant.
Beside, haven’t you seen Chinatown? "You’re a very nosy fellow, kitty cat. Huh? You know what happens to nosy fellows? Huh? No? Wanna guess? Huh? No? Okay. They lose their noses. "
You sound like just the diplomatic, tactful person the State Department is looking for.
You sound like just the diplomatic, tactful person the State Department is looking for…
I think they need me! All this wimpy diplomacy. Talktalktalk. Everyone has to be so nice. They need someone to say what needs to be said. Make the tough calls,

No offense, but wasn’t that a large part of TFG’s appeal to the MAGAts, that he didn’t try to be polite or diplomatic and he cleaned to be tough?
TFG’s appeal to the MAGAts,
Now you’re being MEAN!
(and you’re right)
OK, tact it is.
“Convicted criminals should not be considered simply “bad boys”, and this department should not appear to be granting favors based on popularity. To be seen doing so would undermine the legitimacy of this department, and would cause distrust.”
And Roman Polansky can still fuck right off.
And Roman Polansky can still fuck right off.
It’s not about Roman Polanski.
DHS and State can do all they want to clear a passport for the guy. But if he shows his face anywhere in LA county - especially at the Oscars - he can expect a sheriff’s deputy to show up with manacles and an escort to a taxpayer-funded 8x10 room.
Think more about someone like Russell Brand, if Russell Brand had actually turned over a new leaf, made amends, done his time and cleaned up his act. (Add a few more cliches if you want)
(Actually, it kinda sounds like the plot of a sequel to Get Him To The Greek, now that I think of it…)
“Convicted criminals should not be considered simply “bad boys”, and this department should not appear to be granting favors based on popularity."
An invitation to the Academy Awards isn’t about personal “popularity”, though. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences invites Oscar nominees to its award ceremony to generate revenue for their industry. When the US authorizes travel waivers for invited Oscar nominees, they’re not doing the nominees some kind of personal favor because they’re “popular”.
SunUp’s right that a travel waiver doesn’t make outstanding arrest warrants go away. But for would-be visitors who don’t have issues like outstanding arrest warrants waiting for them in the States, it’s part of the State Dept’s job to help manage high-profile short-term visits that are important to US industries.
Self-righteous pecksniffs taking it upon themselves to declare that having been convicted of, and served a sentence for, a crime automatically makes someone unworthy of a travel waiver to enter the US are probably not a good fit for State Department positions. Of course, they are free to protest in their private capacity as citizens when the film industry employs any previously convicted “bad boy” celebrities to star in its films.
(And by the way, a “visa waiver” is not a special exception along the lines of “you are officially disqualified from obtaining a US visa but we’ll waive that restriction for you because you’re so popular”. It’s an official form of substitute entry permission that can be used without obtaining a visa for visits of less than 90 days. Academy Award nominees are typically named about six weeks before the awards ceremony takes place, and a US visa application can take six months or thereabouts while a visa waiver takes a few days, so that’s why the hypothetical Best Actor nominee would be needing a waiver.)
Do I want to know what Russell Brand has done, or do I want to remain in blissful ignorance?
I was going to spoiler or PM you so that this doesn’t go off topic, but then I realized, this is “Stupid MFers in the news” and it’s totally on-topic.
Russell Brand faced backlash after his YouTube channel appeared to make a rightward shift.
Essentially, he has had drug abuse issues, slept around and cheated on partners, acted outrageously in public, and now he’s joined the alt-right. (Or at least been accused of supporting it, though sometimes it’s hard to tell, he isn’t necessarily clear about it.)
Oh, too bad.
Man leaves items (including cherry pie) under women’s tires so he can watch them bend over.
A man has been arrested he placed various items underneath women's car tires, to see them bend over and pick them up
