Unfortunately, they were still fueling the truck when I left, so I never got to see their purchases. My town’s fire department does lots of fish frys as fundraisers, so I guess they’re really good at that?
Yep, just like any vehicle, just letting it sit will cause problems. Also, the station closest to my house has a tiller; I think they have to have a certain number of driving hours per month for training purposes?
Some of the trucks here run on gas??? But yeah, even at these prices, fuel is cheaper than replacing neglected parts (and having an entire truck out of service).
I think someone (possibly a fire department representative?) tried to point this out to the letter writer in a followup. A casual observer might not have noticed, but the truck wasn’t even that far from its home station; there wouldn’t have been a massive delay in responding to an emergency. I did wonder at the time if it was possible that the letter writer was used to the operations of a volunteer fire department, rather than a station with a 24/7 staff.
I don’t know if it is done in USA, but here (Denmark) the fire stations drive one of their biggest trucks round on the narrower streets at least once a year, to see if there are new problems so that the truck can’t get through.
Of course they shop, cook, eat and even sleep on a 24 hour watch.
Back when my wife let me go to the gym I’d see fire trucks parked there and several firefighters inside working out, and more than once I’ve seen them all leave at once after being called on their radios to an emergency
My son is a paramedic / firefighter. Their shifts are 24 on / 48 off, so, yes, they cook at the firehouse. In his case, they take the ambulance to go shopping. They park it in front of the store so that if there is a call while they are shopping, they can get to it as fast as possible. And, yes, it has happened. Call comes in, you leave the cart with an employee to put stuff back. This is the rule coming down from the Chiefs. And all of the stations in our area do that. This isn’t them running personal errands, it’s stocking the firehouse.
In June, Esk got the most votes in the Republican primary election in Oklahoma House District 87
As with everyone, especially politicians, who go so far over the top in their attitudes towards people who are gay, I have my suspicions. That’s a pretty snappy little van dyke beard he’s got there.
Yep, when I was a volunteer firefighter, that’s what we would be doing in the grocery store; stocking up on food/drink for the firehouse, or a couple of times a year, stocking up on supplies for the Fireman’s Pancake Feed.
