That story seems familiar…
Said right winger who was “ripped off” is Vox Dei. Couldn’t happen to a shittier person.
Not sure if this really belongs in this thread, but I felt I had to share.
Video included.
I can see clearly now the pain is gone
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the stack o’ lenses that had me blind…
Is this a new case or is this the same one that happened like 15 years ago?
ETA, looks like this just happened, but in 2017, there was a similar story but with 27 lenses.
Huh, so my husband is not the worst person in the world at taking care of contact lenses.
I find this hard to believe. When I left one lens in, it got dry and uncomfortable. It took many tries to put one in. No way could you put one on top of another.
Maybe they used eyedrops to try to ease the irritation. What I can’t imagine is how there’s room for that many and still close that eye.
It should be noted these aren’t all stacked on top of each other. At least in one of the articles, it sounds like some of them had moved to ‘behind’ her eye. The article even said they found 10 more at a later appointment. If you’ve worn contacts and had that happen, it’s hard to even know it’s there. I could certainly see someone putting in another lens assuming the first one had been previously removed (or maybe they thought it fell out of their eye).
Since this isn’t a very common occurrence, I’m guessing that something about the shape of their eye makes this easy to happen.
ETA, I didn’t realize there was a video in that link. The contacts getting behind her eye is exactly what’s happening. The video shows the doctor removing them.
I’m thinking it wasn’t the cow who was holeyed.
Not going to watch that video!
I’ve been wearing contacts for decades and only once did I have one start to slip behind my eye. Freaked me out. Not sure how you lose one back there and keep putting them in.
I had that happen Wednesday. One of my contacts went on walkabout right after I washed my face. I thought it had fallen out and took a dive down the drain, so I put in another. About two hours later, the first one decided to come home. I could tell immediately something wasn’t right.
The prisming effect was pretty cool, though.
The few times that I’ve had one get back there, I was entirely convinced I had dropped it, but since I couldn’t find it anywhere I kept re-checking my eye. Eventually I’ll find it (in my eye), but only because I physically saw it, I couldn’t feel it at all. I wouldn’t blame anyone for putting in a second one in those situations.
However, if someone is regularly putting contacts in without removing the previous one(s), even if there is some physical reason the contact can slip back there so easily, I’d be curious if they’re having memory or other mental issues.
That’s an old story. The plot played out in 2009, including filming of the sting operation in an episode of “Cops”. She was convicted in 2011, won a retrial on appeal and got a hung jury in 2016, and was finally convicted again in 2017 and sentenced to 16 years in prison.
Lensy come home!
I used to wear extended-wear RGPs (my correction in one eye is way too steep for soft contacts), but those were the kind where you had one pair, so you kept track of them and could never put two in at once. And they were hugely better than the soft ones in a stiff breeze, AIUI.
A “genius” Seaman in my last unit in the Navy had left his long-term contact lenses in and luckily for him the emergency room doctor was able to remove the lenses without further damage to the Seaman’s eyes.
