A nurse cut off a patient’s foot to keep in her uncle’s taxidermy shop.
The article doesn’t say till quite a ways down the page that the patient was dead at the time.
Oops, I was wrong, he wasn’t dead.
Is that what the nurse said?
Frankly, this is more disturbing.
He was taken to the center because he had fallen in his residence when the heat went out, which caused him to have “severe frostbite” on both of his feet. His feet became necrotic, meaning his tissue had died, according to the complaint.
According to the accounts of nurses Koch interviewed in the criminal complaint, the foot was no longer fully attached to the patient’s leg, it smelled and it was “black like a mummy.”
Furthermore, in the weeks before the amputation, hospice nurses had visited him frequently believing he would die soon.
No medical care other that to watch him rot away?
An “automated push notification” system tied to national observances was blamed by KFC in Germany for sending out a message, “It’s memorial day for Kristallnacht! Treat yourself with more tender cheese on your crispy chicken. Now at KFCheese!”
At least KFC doesn’t push pork.
I thought one pulled pork.
Cheese will just make the chicken less crispy, this is quite offensive.
I can easily see how that went. November 9th is the most important date in German history with a string of crucial historical events happening on that day in different years. The most important were the November Revolution of 1918 and the proclamation of the first German republic and democracy, then of course the progrom night of 1938 and finally the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. So the KFC automated messaging system probably noticed that November 9th was tagged as memorial day with the tags being “Novemberrevolution”, “Mauerfall” and “Kristallnacht”, and randomly picked the totally wrong event.
I can see it as well. However, any sort of automated system like that ought to exclude any memorial days, remembrance days or things like Yom Kippur.
Yes, of course in the end it was someone’s human error somewhere along the line.
