Omnibus Stupid MFers in the news thread (Part 1)

He may yet be one of the celebs who disproves the old adage that “Any publicity is good publicity”. Perp walks not so much.

Hey, Ricky, you’re so dumb!
You’re so dumb you should keep mum!

I had no idea a broom closet counted as a home.

Hey, Los Angeles is kinda like that, as I found out when I was apartment hunting there about 15 years ago. Broom closet apartments for about $900 a month in 2005 – quite expensive in those days, I thought. Most apts I saw didn’t come with a refrigerator either.

Somebody on Wikipedia listed this video as one of his films in his list of films.

Yup. And my weak wifi signal, Biden’s fault. HIs policies drain my sauce and bandwidth!

Yeah, Ted Cruz said the same thing.

It’s bad enough that you are stealing our tax dollars:

But is really, really, really fucking stupid to give the government the evidence to convict you on social media.

Who wants to tell Oklahoma that there’s plenty of the stuff at the grocery store (at least, in North Carolina)? There’s so much bigot-chicken sauce at my local store that they have multiple displays of it scattered throughout the store.

Apparently bigot-chicken sells better in OK.

Well, it is what we’ve been saying…

It’s definitely not what I’ve been saying. The insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol aren’t “retarded”. They aren’t “short-bus people”. They don’t have “brain damage.” That’s a convenient excuse.

These are average, every day Americans. It’s just some of us don’t actually believe in democracy. That’s painful and hard to face but that’s the way we are. Some of us are willing to throw aside the Constitution, and the law, and higher principles, and basic decency, when we don’t get what we want. Some of us Americans are actually fairly awful, and it’s not because of “brain damage.”

Also, I’ve mentioned this a couple of times on this board, but I literally rode the short bus when I was a kid. I was in special education programs throughout most of grade school and into high school. And I never stormed a government building. And I’m really fucking tired of people, including a lot of posters on this board, using these terms as insults. People who do reprehensible things aren’t retarded. They aren’t short-bus people. They don’t have brain damage. They’re reprehensible people.

So all of you, yes, including many of you on this board, who talk like attorney Albert Watkins about people who do things you don’t like: Fuck you.

:clap:t3::clap:t3::clap:t3::clap:t3::clap:t3:

I’m guessing that signatory “Rear Admiral Jack Meehoff” has not been cross-checked against any official military roster.

But, but, but … General Heywood Jablowmi has vouched for him. You wouldn’t doubt the word of a General would you?

Check out the old Apple Wifi logo, 4 bars:

And here’s the new one:

So - WiFi used to go up to 4, now it only goes up to 3!

And when did this change happen? The release date of OS Big Sur was Nov 12th 2020.

It used to go up to 6 until Obama, but Deep State has erased all reference to older logos.

Not “an excuse”, as such. It is a defense ploy: if a convict is mentally incapable of understanding why what they did was wrong, or even that what they did was wrong, it is generally held that punishing them is improper and fruitless, so we refrain*. One can only assume, since it was a defense lawyer making this statement, that their strategy will be that the clients are mentally unfit to stand trial. However, since some of them were/are in the military, this becomes particularly problematic.

*(the case of Cane Madden is an extraordinarily aggravating example of this

Sure, the defense lawyer is probably saying it as part of a ploy. It’s still ignorant and bigoted. And just because it may be useful for the defense of his client for him to say it doesn’t mean he doesn’t actually believe it.

However, when someone on this board quotes that lawyer, approvingly, it’s definitely not a “defense ploy.” It’s also not the first time, in this thread, within the last two weeks, that a Doper posted this sort of thing.

If a defense lawyer made misogynistic or racist public statements as part of an apparent strategy to establish a diminished capacity defense, and another poster on this board quoted them approvingly, stating “it is what we’ve been saying…”, how would you respond? If someone on this board objected to that language, and to a poster on this board seeming to support and agree with it, would your response be a condescending explanation of a diminished capacity defense?

gdave, I apologize. I was trying to think of an introductory comment and came up with that bit of inappropriate lameness. My first instinct was to go with “You know your case is doomed when your own lawyer says you’re brain damaged” but I decided otherwise. My intention was to contribute to the “Stupid MFers in the news” content and not to insult you.

@Knowed_Out, I appreciate the apology. But, just to be clear, I’m not upset because you accidentally insulted me.

I’m upset because being enrolled in special education is stigmatized, and your comments were part of that unthinking, reflexive stigmatization. “Riding the short bus” is shameful in our society. In my personal life, I have to be very careful to whom I reveal that I literally rode the short bus, and how much to reveal to them.

On this board, which is supposed to be dedicated to fighting ignorance, multiple posters will unthinkingly use “special ed”, “ride the short bus”, and similar terms as insults. It’s not that they’re not thinking that some other board members, or readers, might themselves be or have been in special ed programs. It’s that they don’t even consider that using those terms as insults in and of itself is an act of shaming, stigmatization, ostracization, and Othering.
